Dash support is now live on the Zebec platform
Last month we partnered with Zebec to expand access for users to crucial tools they need to live entirely on Dash as their base money.
Now, the Dash support is online for the first two of these tools: the Zebec Silver and Carbon cards.
Silver is a prepaid, single-load virtual card that can be added to digital wallets for easy spending. It is available to be denominated in USD, EUR, and GBP so that users in several different regions can spend in their local currency without incurring a forex fee.
Carbon is the same as Silver, except with two important differences: It’s reloadable, and is USD-only. This means that it’s significantly more flexible and convenient (particularly for loading into a digital wallet for in-person spending), but is limited to USD, meaning non-US purchases may incur a forex fee.
Both can be loaded with Dash instantly from any BIP70-compatible wallet: DashPay, Dash Core, Dash Electrum, Edge Wallet, and many others. In mere seconds from pressing the “send” button, these cards can be loaded and have their balance updated, meaning that (in particular for Carbon) you can keep your funds in Dash in your own self-custody until seconds before you need to spend them.
A Note on Regional Support
Both of these cards are available worldwide to users in 140 countries. Silver (single-load) is available to be denominated in USD, EUR, and GBP. Carbon (reloadable) can only be denominated in USD, but it can still be used worldwide (with a forex charge for non-USD currencies).Users in most jurisdictions should be able to use these cards without ID verification, unless suspicious activity is detected during the registration process. Because of regional identification laws, however, users based in the UK and the EU will have to verify their identity in order to use both cards.
How to Use Your Zebec Card
- Create an account at the Zebec card portal: https://app.card.zebec.io/dashboard/dash
- Choose Dash as your currency
- Choose a card (Silver or Carbon) to load
- Add funds by scanning the QR code or copying and pasting the request into any BIP70-compatible Dash wallet
- Check your email for the activation link for your card
- You can now spend via your Zebec card! For in-person spending, add your card to Google/Apple Pay (note that it will verify via SMS to the number you provided during sign-up, which can be a VoIP number)
Any time you need to top up your Carbon card, just log into the Zebec portal, set the load amount, pay the invoice, and the amount should be reflected on your card balance almost immediately.
Bridging the Gap: Easily Live All on Dash Now
With the addition of these new cards, your ability to live entirely on Dash just got a lot easier.Dash is widely supported as a payment method around the world: almost three billion people can use it for bill pay. Numerous online and in-person merchants accept it directly, and hundreds of thousands worldwide accept it through gift cards and other similar options. It’s very possible to live completely on Dash in much of the world today.However, before we reach complete global universal acceptance, there will always be gaps. Users may need to choose between using Dash at a merchant which may not be their preferred option vs. going for their top choice and relying on their regular bank as a fallback.With these new card options, much of the world can now experience the promise of Dash for every single one of their spending needs: fully decentralized, private, and self-custodial money.
Still to Come: High-Limit Dash-Branded Cards!
We’re working with Zebec on another card as well: a high-limit, Dash-branded virtual card. While this will require ID verification, its high limits will mean it’s perfect for buying even high-end items. And, it will be offered in USD and EUR, so our European users will finally have a reloadable Dash card! This will hopefully be released before the end of the year, so stay tuned for a future announcement.Additionally, we are exploring working with Zebec on tools that extend past cards, and solve other crucial gaps in the global financial ecosystem.
