What is Dash?
Dash (DASH) is a cryptocurrency forked from Bitcoin. Dash is a portmanteau of “digital cash”. Despite being forked from Bitcoin, Dash has several unique features such as faster transactions, privacy in transactions and decentralized voting-based governance.
History of Dash
2014-2016 – Xcoin, Darkcoin and Rebranding to DASH
In January 2014, Evan Duffield forked Bitcoin and launched Xcoin, which would eventually be rebranded as Darkcoin. In March 2015, the coin was rebranded yet again as Dash. The coin was initially popular with dark net markets but it is said that in 2016, Dash is no longer majorly involved in dark net transactions.
Dash Force and Dash Labs was formed, with Dash Force responsible for managing community-related matters including the Dash DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization), and Dash Labs responsible for promoting the creation of open-source projects to decentralize blockchain technology development.
