One important thing is - level of anonymity depends not only on tech but also on number (and "quality" For example mixing with current bitcoin-mixer users can cause more problems than benefits) of users you can mixing with. That is why huge base of non-criminal users are more important for practical anonymity than ring signatures and all such "narrow niche stuff".
true! we need to think big to get anonymity globally :)

How about Drakecoin? We can keep DRK for DRaKecoin. Then, if you don't like drakecoin, you can keep calling it darkcoin.

No *coin suffix please. We're not an shitcoin and that's too year 2009/2011's... (which is millennia in crypto-years!)

So I get the need for change.. i resist at first, i like a dark coin and it's purpose and what it represents.. a dark coin. i get it though. so, i looked further to see if any other options jump out. dash isn't bad.. i also get the fact it related to digital cash and starts with a 'D'. maybe these things aren't necessary.. looking at that list of companies that have rebranded some were complete 180 from their original name and complete new skin..

i like the idea of a root word for a meaning we need.. freedom, sovereign, independence, liberty, self-aware/control

solv-, solut-loosen, set free, Latinsolvere, solutusabsolute, absolve, dissolute, dissolve, resolute, resolve, soluble, solute, solution, solve, solvent

solv.

I also think of be our own bank, along the lines of a sovereign entity or being.. what controls the being? soul (found many new/unique words here) , brain (synapsis or similar.. almost makes me think of MN network), and heart... what feeds the heart, what relays life from the heart to the body?

pulse.

just some thoughts on paper.. (what would be a term of a lightning strike/flash in the dark sky..?)

a digital pulse to disrupt the norm.. (break the shackles/resistance) .. can still be a bit edgy, no?

(get the 'D' back in there..)

I suggested this earlier but then deleted it because we have dishwashing detergent Dawn.
This is not reason enough to give up the name...
...my car is dark, t-shirt and pants also!
Of course it is only a proposal,
Logo remains the same!
Dawn is a consequence of the darkness. It is as if going out to the people.
Provides knowledge, gives Technologies..
The DAWN has a large field for marketing...
But I do not know how it would sound in English in everyday speech.
English is not my native language.

I would certainly not want to see vertoe gone. Yesterday was a very heated day. I said shit I regret today myself.
Many times, as is the case of Darkcoin code itself, a huge crack can lead to immense reinforcement of relationships.

I truly hope this is the case

It is fascinating to observe how those who have benefited from a successful criptomoneda as Darkcoin, have no qualms minimum to scrap the name and look for a "decent" name that provides the acceptance of hypothetical investors.
The Darkcoin has a position that allows it to be an alternative to Bitcoin, simply renaming begins Zero and compete at the same level as the hundreds of criptomonedas that arise and disappear.
The world of crypto currencies is not for faint-hearted, if labeled a terrorist, criminal or intimidates be returned to the world of fiat money.

Not a problem: old fans, DarkMarkets, ... can continue calling DASH with old "darkcoin" unofficial nickname - because it will be reserved, so nobody else could use "darkcoin".

So far I have stayed out of this, but I have read the entire thread. I have also devoted some serious enegry to promoting Darkcoin at http://www.meetup.com/Makati-Digital-Currency-Meetup/ where I made a Presentation called Darkcoin in Contex comparing Darcoin and Bitcoin last Feb 28. Some billed it as the first ever presentation from the Darcoin Ambassador Group, which tongfa, daniel-minotaur with help from some others have organized. We plan another Darkcoin presentation the last Saturday of this month. The presntation, which is a work in progress, may be reviewed here. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ztk0jagePkzvi6RLQW9Flf0bdS50gVZsN1QPFbUK4Ok/edit?usp=sharing

Rebranding and changing the name is a good idea. Darkcoin just generates endless negatives and wastes everyone's time dealing with issues most of us consider irrelevant. "Isn't that the criminal coin?" Sign, "No for the ten thousandth time ..."

DASH does nothing for me at all. I like DAWN. So some soap is named dawn, so what? I was raised with "Cleanliness is next to Godliness." Soap is not so bad.

DAWN is beautiful and promising. A new day awaits those who greet the DAWN, which follows the Dark naturally.

So DarthFraktal do not give up the fight.

A new day is DAWNing.

Maybe ;)

Lets boil this down a little.

This has been a useful discussion, but not for the obvious reasons.

FACT: Darkcoin is not even close to what the project used to be. The name is associated with what it used to be.

FACT: Rebranding makes sense. Remember this shit fit I threw on BCT when the name was changed from XCoin to Darkcoin? RapeYourDaughterCoin is hard to adopt...

But, does it make enough sense to walk away? If there is a good name to change to does affect that...

So.

There is a compelling reason to change the name, but only if a name that suits it better and works better can be found. Also, is it that big of a deal? Yeah, sure, it makes sense... Just because one can do a thing does not mean one should do a thing... There are a long list of very compelling reasons, even socially obligatory reasons, to shoot the President. But I haven't done it for other reasons... I guess what I'm saying is that, we've weighed the reasons for changing the name and there are good reasons for it. But are the reasons for not changing it even more compelling than the reasons for changing it? Especially if the replacement name sucks?

Lets talk about the void, not the mass... Lets see what's missing, not what's there.

This.

Oh, and DAWN? That's way out there people... I've flushed better ideas. It's impossible to take money named dawn seriously...

Why would you change the name to a name that is a ready taken by a financial product-solution? And decide to challenge their trademark? A pre-existant financial and you want to name a financial the same name and challenge the first. And more than 1 pre-existant financial with the name Dash? Is somebody trying to sabotage Darkcoin?

I'm not going to call that like what it sounds out loud.... At least not until I get really disappointed... Don't you guys use google? So who's the dummy here? Me? maybe... I'm trying not to comment too much on the name change but it seems like we don't necessary have the smartest cookies here... Please feel targeted...

These are just some brain storming ideas for building the brand:

Made a small change

This is freakin' great. We need a video explanation and launch, with this being talked over. It's already getting press, an we should capitalize on that ASAP. I have no skills at any of this, alas.
