This is a cross-post from www.dashwhale.org/p/pr-fall-camp-201608

This Public Relations proposal goes hand-in-hand with our business development strategy as we share with the media the different partnerships and integrations we execute. Public relations directly supports business development, since joint promotion is a central source of value Dash provides to potential partners with whom we are negotiating. Public relations also enables Dash to extract more benefit from the partnerships as we announce them.

We have a road-map of additional announcements planned and we believe it is therefore essential to retain a professional PR firm to represent Dash in both the digital currency and mainstream media. After careful consideration, we have selected Wachsman PR as our PR partner for the next phase of our growth.

Wachsman PR is a highly professional firm located in New York that enjoys a strong reputation in the digital currency industry and has demonstrated a high level of professionalism the market has come to expect of the Dash project. Wachsman PR represents many high-profile crypto clients such as Kraken, Purse.io, Overstock's T0 and many others.

Though Wachsman PR is reputable in the industry, they agreed to provide Dash an opportunity to preview their services rather than simply relying on their track record and referrals. They agreed to conduct a trial month of PR services for Dash ahead of us officially hiring them (which we are now planning to do) for a longer-term agreement.

Based on our experience thus far, we highly recommend proceeding with a contract. Wachsman PR staff have all been professional and impressive. They have provided insights and advice on how to extend our reach into mainstream media, helped shape, revise and prepare our d10e presentations and handouts, and have prepared a longer-term PR strategy. They also aren’t afraid to tell us when they disagree with us… They don’t say “yes” to everything we suggest, and tell us what they think is a better approach along with the reasons why. In short, they are adding tremendous value. In just two weeks they have done two press releases with us and obtained an impressive amount of media placements for the project, which I’ve outlined below.

We would like to hire Wachsman PR for an initial four month engagement starting September 1st. The cost of the proposal is $6,000 per month and the entire four month contract will cost $24,000. As a portion of the funding ($880) is already set aside from the July budget “PR - Fall Campaign Pre-Funding”, we will only need an additional $5,120 to fund the initial month’s services. However, as protection against currency fluctuation between now and August 5th, we would like to request the full $6,000 and carry any balance forward to September to be used for the same purposes.

Requested funding is as follows for the August 5th budget cycle:
Total: 651.41 Dash

Note: Any unused funds from this proposal will be used for future public relations services.

These "press release" services get articles posted all over on these various sites, but I am clicking on these examples, all 24 of them, they all have zero comments, zero or near-zero likes, zero ratings, zero tweets or social media shares, view counts in the low to mid hundreds (if there is a view count displayed at all), of which a chunk may be bots. There is nothing that indicates that anyone has actually read these, not to mention cared about anything they read. Can't we do better than this?

Hi we are executing a roadmap, we only started with this campaign 2 weeks ago. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make these deals happen and the media releases are part of the negotiation with partners, it is part of what we are bringing to the table.

Having said that, all help is welcome so if you feel there may be a better way please come up with a plan and execute it.

i think this is great. what happened the other guys? Vanex?
We did not select Vanbex neither were they working officially with the team. They are good people but we strongly believe this is the best for Dash. We can confidently say Wachsman are professionals and an important ally for Dash. I hope the results can speak for themselves. This is why we insisted in doing a trial run ahead of any public statements on our part. You can ask the opinions of @kot @eduffield @babygiraffe too if you want more feedback.

A 4 month campaign would be good for recognition and retention. It would also run right up into the Christmas shopping season. (to be quite mercenary about it)
I should run through the list as TroyDash did...
and leave comments ???

I can't judge about the whole world, but in Russians speaking countries their publications in Forklog (Russian) + CoinFox (Russian) has covered (my estimations) more than half of audience interested in Cryptocurrencies. Very good result!

In 2016 we (Russian Dash activists) had been able to place many Dash-publications in Forklog and other Ru-medias "for free" - but this process is very hard, unstable and rare.
I have noticed significant rise of Dash presence in local medias (with real visitors and reputation) during last week. It will be good help for us here if Wachsman PR can proceed with same level of activity (I hope).

I think it is possible to spend this 6000 USD/month in more effective way if Dash had internal "PR-team" to manage relations with dozens of medias around the world - directly, by ourselves. But as we don't have such a team now (and there is a big amount of work) - we have to pay to external PR-team - it is better than doing just some amateur non-system activity.

Regarding the question: what you (as anyone of us) can do better... Sure - you can contact Medias directly - asking what kind of articles do they need, adapting Dash new for their specific audience and so on - getting better media coverage for Dash...

I agree that we could probably hire a team of people to work on content creation and media placement, but this isn't the only thing a (good) PR firm does. A well-connected PR firm can also introduce us to their other clients in the digital currency space. They also field calls from reporters and connect them to experts at Dash to make comments on industry developments (e.g., get Dash representatives quoted in publications on newsworthy events like the DAO hack). They will conduct media training (which we need). And they have real expertise on how to get the most "mileage" from a given piece of news... when to offer "exclusives" to reporters, the sequence of "angles" to promote Dash, ways to communicate our value to different target audiences, etc. These are things that an internal team with only exposure to Dash, would be unable to do well. Add to that the fact that the pool of talent with that expertise which is specific to the cryptocurrency space, and the pool of PR people the media call when they are doing a story on cryptocurrency is still very small at the moment. I sincerely don't think we could do this in-house and might never want to given the disadvantages of an internal and isolated team.
