IP Ban?

I was using "LTC and Scrypt Miner PRO" for Android, just testing it out really and I after about 5 minutes I was getting a connection error "stratum_recv_line failed". I tried to access drkpool.com and darkcoin.io but both show website unavailable in any browser. I switched wifi off on my phone connected to 4G and I could connect to both sites and run the miner. I reset my router and call my ISP only to find out my IP was being blocked by drkpool.com and darkcoin.io.

I wont be using that app any more and my question is how long will I be blacklisted or block or banned? Also why did this happen? Are there specific things I need to watch out for to keep this from happening?

This likely happened because you're attempting to mine an X11 coin using the Scrypt algorithm. The shares you were submitting to the pool were malformed and rejected, a high rejection rate will typically trigger DoS mitigation controls and result in your IP address receiving a temporary ban. You can only successfully mine an X11 coin by using an X11 capable miner with the appropriate configuration.

Thanks for the quick response.

I found that out and the app is going to support that in a few weeks. In the mean time how long is the ban and can I get un-banded somehow?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure how you can expedite it, but with so much hash power in Darkcoin now it doesn't make any sense for you to mine it on a phone/tablet.

Hi I have been IP banned after I attempted to mine with the cpuminer. I read somewhere else on Reddit that this can occur if you try to mine an X11 coin with the scrypt algorithm. All I was doing was running the minerd with the default option for --algo. It doesn't have an option for --algo x11. Am I not running the latest version of the miner? If not, where can I find the source for the version with the --algo x11 option?

How long does this IP Ban last? It's been 14 hours now!

Hey vertoe,

Thanks for the links. I had already managed to find the latest code and it is running happily on my VPS. The problem still remains that I am still IP banned from my home IP address even on port 80/443 so I can't access the darkcoin.io website. It's not a problem for me because I just use a VPN connection or Tor to get around it. But your links above will not work for anyone who cannot do that since they won't be able to access darkcoin.io.

Whilst I totally can see the need for tighter security during a DDos attack, I can't help wondering how many other legit people who are curious about Darkcoin have been turned off a bit by this IP Ban. They too might have tried mining with the wrong version of cpuminer and got banned and have now given up trying to access the site and wandered off to look at other coins? I can understand that this is a busy time for the creators with the Hard Fork coming up on Friday but somebody should still man the support desk and field these kind of enquiries. Mine is not that urgent as I have found my way around it.
