Worry about crapcoin like doge ripping us off

What do others think about this?

I'm worried that a crapcoin such as dogecoin which has itself established by its network effect copying darksend when it goes open source. It might make it hard for us to compete with it as it already has a big user base.

ok.. so open source is the most important thing going forward?

As someone who knows nothing about coding, how easy would it be to implement something like darksend into an existing coin? Surely not just copy paste? I mean all the effort demonstrated on the testnet points against this

I don't know much about coding but I'm sure it's not that easy to implement darksend. A simple copy-paste is not enough.
And I think a hard fork is required to do that :)

They might do it but a lot of coins either don't care that much about privacy to go meddling in the buts and bolts of the coin or if they do they'll be playing catch-up with all the people who just decide to make the transition to the coin that brought about the change (on the assumption that it's clearly the one whose dev has a handle on the issue). So I would say not to worry.
 
The small crapcoins can't copy (or it won't matter) because they don't have enough of a size.

Doge won't because it is really far what their mission, people, values... Even if they wanted, I'm not sure they have enough development and competent users to pull that together.

Darksend is not a sticker you attach to a coin and works out of the box. It is super complex and needs maintenance by someone who knows about it. Don't worry about copying so much. Even if they cloned Darkcoin as a hole, with Darksend included, I'm not worried. Darkcoin innovates, others don't. When Darksend if fully finished it will be ip obfuscation. After that who knows. You can't copy that.
