Which masternodes voted and what exactly voted on various proposals (v2)

Vote participation is increasing again following the reset of all existing votes in the last cycle, about 30% of the network voted. The data shows strong increase in those that own <6 nodes, while the whales remain steady.

Summary of the changes over the last few months.

The trend these last three months appears to be towards greater MNO participation in the DAO, but also some of that is just accumulation of votes for long running proposals, the number of people active in a cycle will be less than shown in the table.

The results are a bit weird this cycle, I am seeing fewer people involved in this cycle overall, this could come down to fewer people actually voting or more re-birth activity of MNs and then MNOs forgetting to re-cast their votes after, something to keep an eye on for future months. The number of people active in a cycle will be less than shown in the table.

Well, it wasn't a very controversial month. I wonder if there's any seasonal variation? Or maybe a like-for-like month comparison e.g. Oct '19, Oct '18, Oct '17...

It could be seasonal, we have many snapshots located at https://mnowatch.org/ I will go back in history and see if I can spot a large chunk of votes vanishing. In the meantime keep an eye on the data and let me or Demo know if you have any questions on it, we are active here and in the DASH TALK Discord. :)

A strange thing happened between 2019-9-30 (https://mnowatch.org/the_results_dashd_2019-09-30-00-53-05.uniqueHashVotes.417.html) and 2019-10-01 (https://mnowatch.org/the_results_dashd_2019-10-01-00-52-54.uniqueHashVotes.389.html)

That day, the voting masternodes from 1763 became 1751 and the estimated individualities from 416 became 388.

This is maybe because that day a lot of proposals expired from the active proposals, so the voters who voted for these proposals disappeared from the list, as it can be seen here https://mnowatch.org/2019-10-01-00-52-54.diff.html (Note: This report is buggy. Sometimes different table lines appear in the same line. This is a known bug, not fixed yet. So if you are searching for the truth among the table lines, beware because sometimes two lines may appear as one. Or alternatively, you have better search into the git diff report https://mnowatch.org/2019-10-01-00-52-54.diff instead)

The trend continued this month with overall participation in the DAO less than the previous months. In the days leading up to the close of voting there were over 100 masternodes liquidated on various exchanges due to fear/capitulation selling and a massive margin call (liquidation) on the SALT platform which vaporised the Lion's share of the nodes, so of course their votes were erased from the system. Also, this month a new whale surfaced from the depths and decided to start voting with a whopping 194 nodes! During the course of the month he ended up voting with a hoard tallying 144 nodes. The difference of the nodes is 194 - 144 = 50 which are still running as masternodes, but voting in smaller groups. Luckily MNOwatch caught a glimpse of this magnificent creature on that day it surfaced in all its glory and we've able able to track its every move.

This is the first known sighting of this DASH Blue Whale https://mnowatch.org/the_results_dashd_2019-11-17-00-52-50.html click on the VOTEHASH field and wait awhile for your browser to sort it and then search on this hash 94076565942430240210176243152973138582941065035 to reveal 194 matches. Then in another tab open the voting results at the time of the voting cut-off https://mnowatch.org/the_results_dashd_2019-11-27-15-05-59.html and double click on the VOTEHASH column to sort it and this time search on the hash 571863126543619144053251637839553368573743327346 and notice the tally is only 144 votes. This hoard appears to be missing 50 nodes, where did they go? Go back to the first tab and search on this collateral f44b0562ba7ab235419898dcddce8a7d4ee44f08d391acbd92a663efdfc167de then copy the corresponding VOTEHASH for this node and search on it in the same page to reveal 44 nodes that voted the same way, thus our blue whale broke off 44 nodes from the set of 194. I am still looking for the other 6 (144 + 44 + 6 = 194).

If we compare the voting of the 144 group and the 44 group we find. Neither group cast any ABSTAIN votes, nor any NO votes.
The 144 node group voted like so:
dash-core-group-premises dash-core-team-compensation-december---f dash-developer-program dashmallandparkingcontinuedgrowth dash-nexus-accelerated-development

and the 44 node group voted like so:
dash-core-team-compensation-december---f dash-developer-program dashmallandparkingcontinuedgrowth dash-nexus-accelerated-development dash-nexus-ongoing-development-sep-dec-2

Both groups voted for:
dash-core-team-compensation-december---f
dash-developer-program
dashmallandparkingcontinuedgrowth
dash-nexus-accelerated-development

The 144 group voted additionally for:
dash-core-group-premises

The 44 group voted additionally for:
dash-nexus-ongoing-development-sep-dec-2

In the first sighting the 194 group voted like so,
dash-core-team-compensation-december---f dash-developer-program dashmallandparkingcontinuedgrowth dash-nexus-accelerated-development

Which is all the votes both clusters have in common, thus 144 + 44 = the same blue whale. If you find the remaining 6, please let us know!

?
"lost all his votes"
how did that happen ?

Hi Tungfa, the only way I know how this can happen is if the node went into POSE_BAN status and was then restarted by issuing the appropriate protx ..... method call. With so many nodes, it would not be surprising if one or two have difficulties from time to time, I would imagine managing them is a full time job!

The month of December saw a continued decline in the number of Masternodes on the DASH network, approximately 170 nodes were lost over the voting period some of which were voting in the DAO, of specific note a whale that voted with 48 nodes sold his stack from Christmas eve through to Boxing day, which also manifested as significant price pressure as the price chart shows. These things considered together with MNOs being on holidays reflect a decrease in participation again this month.
