I guess you're not aware or haven't read this:

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/v0-11-0-x-testing.3401/
https://github.com/darkcoin/darkcoin/blob/v0.11.0.x/doc/release-notes/release-notes-0.11.0.md

Any other name than "Darkcoin Core" would be just silly.

EDIT: we've reached a milestone now that vertoe has done this, and it will open doors for merchants to adopt Darkcoin. Ever wondered why ATM machines have Bitcoin, Litecoin, and "Dogecoin" but not Darkcoin? Because Dogecoin code has forked from Bitcoin core many months ago.
Thanks for the reply moli. I had read both the links you cite, and while it is certainly possible that I misunderstood them, I am hoping that I simply failed to communicate my thinking clearly. Whatever the correct terminology, I understand that DRK was originally forked off lightcoin, and that a primary purpose of the recent flurry of Dev. activity has been moving to the more recent Bitcoin ver. 9.3. and the accompanying "Core" terminology. As a result, it is my understanding that DRK 0.17 will be the first of a series of releases, all of which will merit the "Core" designation. In other words, every release from here on out, will in some sense be "Darkcoin Core." If I understand correctly (which I may not) "Core" is the terminology which distinguishes the client from the daemon.

Could somebody please confirm or correct my understanding?
