Proposal: DASH SXSW Music Festival

feedbands

Feedbands proposes to throw a music festival inside of the greater South by Southwest music festival which is attended by nearly 100,000 people. We will showcase absolutely phenomenal independent musical acts in a highly visible location while offering excellent craft microbrew beers for $.25, and vinyl records of any performing artist for $5. The only way to buy records and beer will be to pay with Dash.

This promotion will reach the nearly 100,000 engineers, developers, startup founders, CEOs, journalists, filmmakers and their friends who attend SXSW. By using Dash on transactions valued at less than a dollar, this market segment will not only become educated but experience first hand two of the most important features and use cases of Dash: instant transfers and near-zero fees.

This year, SXSW guests and speakers include: Mark Cuban, Guy Kawasaki, Peter Thiel, Walter Isaacson, CNN’s chief correspondant, the VP of Amazon Web Services, the producer of the Daily Show, and so on. See here for a complete list of notable attendees: https://www.sxsw.com/conference/featured-speakers/. Previous speakers and attendants include Snoop Dogg, Steve Martin, Barack Obama, J.J. Abrams, Malcolm Gladwell, Neil Young, Sean Parker, Seth McFarlane, Kevin Smith, Mark Zuckerberg, and the list goes on and on: https://www.sxsw.com/about/history/

As the battle for cryptocurrency rages on, very few people today use digital currency in any real world situations. We will create an environment that draws people in, holds their hand as they sign up for a dash wallet, sell them dash, and then let’s them transact with it. .

ABOUT SXSW
SXSW happens once per year in Austin, Texas, from March 9 to 18th. It is attended by nearly 100,000 of the most technologically influential people in the United States. It is a music festival, a technology festival and a film festival all rolled into one. Tickets range from $825 to $1650. Lodging in hotels averages $800 per night. It is one of the largest gatherings of technologists, musicians, filmmakers, influencers, tastemakers and journalists. Many notable startups have launched there including Twitter and AirBNB. People attend for music, to see the new products being launched, to watch films and to drink beer. The fact that tickets cost over a thousand dollars and lodging costs about that per night is a sign that it is attended by the tech-elites, engineers and ceos and founders of the world. These are the very people building the companies that we want integrating Dash in the future. These are perhaps the most important people to whom we can communicate Dash’s benefits.

At night, the city comes alive with music. Every bar and restaurant has live bands playing. Every band that takes their career seriously figures out a way to get to SXSW and play any gig they can take. Feedbands is uniquely positioned to have some of the best music at the entire event.

About Feedbands
Feedbands is a platform created to identify the best independent musicians. We stream music on our site, our members vote and the top voted artists get pressed to vinyl. Since we started in 2012 we have released over 50 vinyl records and have put on countless live shows and concerts in the cities we have had presences in over the years. Throughout our company’s history, we have only gained momentum and attracted bigger and better artists. We work exclusively with independent artists, meaning if an artist is on a major label, we do not work with them. We exist to draw attention to the truly incredible artists that don’t have a major corporation backing them.

The Proposed Project: Draw people in with music, demonstrate first hand how Dash can be used for small transactions

The purpose of this proposal is not just to get people using Dash in the real world, but to demonstrate to tech evangelists, CEOs, engineers and founders that Dash transfers instantly and with almost zero fees.

First, we draw them in with a collection of the most talented artists found anywhere SXSW (this is not blowing smoke and it is not subjective: our platform was created to identify these artists and it works great). No one will be able to resist stopping into our event space while passing by.

Next, we offer the most delicious hand crafted micro-brew for just $.25 as well as the coolest looking hand pressed vinyl records for just $5.

The catch: Any record or beer that anyone would like to purchase must be paid for in Dash. These records sell in our online store for $25 but here will sell for just $5 in Dash, and beers that typically cost $7 will cost just $.25 in Dash. Spending 25 cents in digital currency will be a powerful way to directly demonstrate the benefits of this revolutionary financial technology to some of our most important gatekeepers.

We will have a booth and staff set up on site to help people create Dash wallets on their mobile phones and show them how to spend it and communicate clearly it’s benefits. They’ll leave understanding that they can transfer instantly, that the transfer fees are low or non existent, and that there’s a treasury to fund Dash’s expansion. We will take their money on site, cash and credit cards, and transfer Dash to them so their wallets are loaded and ready to go and they can spend it.

For these folks, these engineers, ceos, founders, filmmakers and journalists, it will likely be the first time they spend digital currency on something in the real world.

Do we want Bitcoin to be the only cryptocurrency people can spend at this years SXSW?

I'm not too familiar with the SXSW and have been planning to go eventually. I understand the event is very multi-faceted, is it also worth just sponsoring the entire event also? Many companies out there got started or had a big boost after their SXSW events.

It's true, Airbnb and Twitter both launched at SXSW. It's the single biggest music and tech event in the entire United States.

Feedbands has a huge upper hand here, in that we can put on a SXSW musical showcase with the following artists who's records we've released:

Tank and the Bangas - 2016 tiny desk winner:

Records in stock and can sell for dash at event: yes

Faded paper figures - featured on grays anatomy:

Records in stock and can sell for dash at event: yes

The Vliets:

Brother grand:

Be Calm Honcho:

Amycanbe:

There are many many more stellar artists we can bring in as well. We've released over 50 artists based on votes from our members and we have everything necessary to put on an incredibly well received event and get people actually using dash to buy these records.

One thought is to sell the records for $5 or $10 in dash, which is a damn good deal because they typically sell for $25.

This event would have a large impact and make an emotional connection with the audience. These are hands down the most talented unsigned artists in the country and world and, placed next to hotel Vegas, we could be an incredibly popular and extremely visible segment of SXSW.

Right now there is a battle happening for a cryptocurrency to serve the music industry and its artists. This proposal also offers a platform, a literal stage, to make the case for dash to be that solution.

The costs for the space, the artists, and the marketing materials. I will get all the costs and agreements from artists before submitting an actual proposal. We're definitely looking at less than a hundred dash.

I am not very much into spending tons of money just to have the name DASH written some place. If instead all the buying and selling in the festival was done using DASH, so participants were required to have a wallet and buy some dash, and use them, then it would be a different ball game.

That is exactly the proposal. We have vinyl record inventory of every artist who would be performing and the only way to buy them or anything else would be with dash *and* we would price them very cheap, $5 or $10 (or even just $1) to add extra incentive to get dash and buy a record.

sounds great ! how would you get people to exchange their cash to dash ? whats the total expected foot fall ?

What would be the easiest way is to have a booth upon entering that handles it for people. We could sign people up for Dash Wallets right there and add Dash. We could also hold Dash on hand so that once people sign up for a Dash wallet (which only takes a second), we could take their cash and instantsend Dash to them. However, is it legal to do this? Would we need a money transmitter license to do this? Can we legally accept cash and give them Dash to use? If not, what's the easiest way we can load folks up with $20 of dash?

What if everyone who came got a free $20 in dash to spend? If they wanted to spend more tomorrow they'd have to buy some bitcoin, transfer to bittrex/polo, buy dash, transfer to dash wallet.

If we could work things out with Festy it would make it even easier for contactless payments via dash. Haven't heard back from them yet and not even sure if it's possible for them to supply us with the gear we'd need. The festival is in March so we have time. But Festy isn't necessary as long as they can create a dash wallet on site and we can take their money and give them dash.

you might not need money transfer license coz people will not exchange dash back to usd with you but better to get clarified on that.

There are two big issues here , people might not carry a lot of cash on hand which means you need to be next to an ATM machine second handling lot of cash is a bit of problem per se , but what you could do is sell cash back to the merchants right away :)

pre loading dash wallets with $20 would jack up the cost a lot i presume , what is the expected foot fall ?

We have an existing merchant account that would let us swipe cards, so we could technically swipe their card for $20 and give them a $20 dash wallet. We could accept cash and swipe.

The location I am scouting is right next to one of the most popular SXSW venues in east austin - hotel vegas. Foot traffic would be in the tens of thousands for the week.

sounds great , don't let people swipe more than $100 or so ( there will be a charge back risk ).

now post the official company details etc , can't wait to vote yes for your proposal.

if this goes well , you should get start an offical dash event sponsorship team :)

dash should the main sponsor for major fests and if we make people pay in dash for all the events , we would make a killing in terms of promoting the coin ...

i would definitely recommend giving free drinks for those download the wallet

I mean that's just it right, we don't even need to give free drinks, we can give .50 drinks or $1 drinks, just pay in dash. They definitely need to pay for drinks, they should definitely be the cheapest drinks anywhere at SXSW, and they definitely need to pay in dash.

Although maaaybe one free drink when you get the wallet wouldn't hurt ;)

For those wondering the value of getting Dash out there to SXSW, this year guests and speakers include Mark Cuban, Guy Kawasaki, Peter Thiel, Walter Isaacson, CNN’s chief correspondant, the VP of Amazon Web Services, the producer of the Daily Show, and so on. These kinds of folks, and their friends, are the type of people who regularly attend SXSW. They are founders, CEOs, engineers, developers, filmmakers, journalists, and influencers.

Getting in front of these types of folks will be invaluable. They can have their first experience actually using and spending dash while enjoying phenomenal music and becoming educated on the instantsend and near zero transaction fees.

In addition, we will contractually require all the performing artists to promote DASH via their social media channels. Collectively they have an audience of nearly 1 million.
