(No DASH) Does Virtual Currency's Past Dictate Its Future?

I thought this article was really interesting because it delves into the history of failed "digital cash" from Digicash and Cybercash in the 1990's to the first "virtual currency" (which was really a coupon system) to E-gold to a Canadian currency called Dexit. It might be worthwhile researching some of these failed currencies (or talking to their founders) to derive lessons from their failures.
