January 2016 Budget Proposal

eduffield

Core Developer
We're really excited about the budget proposals for this month! There are some very special projects this month the team has been working very hard to put together. So help us end the year strong and start the new one with forward momentum!

Next month we’ll be attending Bitcoin Miami, which is one of the largest Bitcoin conferences! Be sure to try and catch my presentation about Dash Evolution. We’ll be presenting a very early prototype and showing what the next-gen system can do.

Previous Items:

Core Team Budget - 1174 DASH

Public Awareness Campaign - 2226 DASH (ongoing) (Please see the Michael Terpin - Transform.PR new project below.)

Dash.org domain acquisition - 2100 DASH

Liquidity Providers - 121 DASH

We have created a new team to support the network by providing liquidity for the mixing.

New Proposal Items:

Dash-Lamassu ATM Integration - 610.26 DASH - 12 months

We are very happy to announce our project to integrate Dash into the Lamassu ATM machines. One of our top priorities from a business development perspective is to improve direct access to our network for end users. We believe crypto ATMs are a great way for regular people to get access to DASH without being adept to crypto-currency online trading and Lamassu has currently the largest number of machines operating around the world of all the manufacturers.

Crypto ATMs will help bring DASH into the everyday life of regular users and increase utility by providing a physical bridge into the network. Dash is partnering with Deginner, a development firm with experience with the Lamassu machiness and the awareness of Lamassu to perform the integration. Support over a longer time frame is required to ensure the integration will be maintained for any changes in Dash or the Lamassu system, for this, Deginner will include a two year support for the integration. Ira Miller, from Deginner, has been instrumental in opening this opportunity for Dash by leading the conversation with the Lamassu team and making sure they are aware of the project.

This is a big project, as one key requirement of the integration is for Dash to be able to be presented to the user side-by-side with Bitcoin, meaning a current BTM operator can continue to offer BTC as he normally does and just expand to also offer DASH as an alternative by selecting an option in the menu if he desires. This means the whole system, including the UI, need to change as it was originally designed to do only BTC. This is critical to make it attractive for existing operators to offer Dash without any disruption to their BTC business or machines, just a menu option where they can activate DASH support at will. Also, for new DASH ATM operators which primary interest is DASH it makes sense to also offer BTC, creating synergies between both networks. The alternative of converting the machines from BTC exclusive to DASH exclusive was not really viable as there would not be a business case for current BTM operators to exclude BTC in favor of DASH at this point in time.

Ira Miller, Deginner founder and CEO, is a developer and entrepreneur working in Bitcoin since 2011, he was part of Bitinstant and founded Coinapult in 2012 with Erik Voorhees, which he sold in 2015. We hope that Ira’s collaboration and support for Dash continues in years to come.

Deginner was founded in early 2015 by former Coinapult CEO and CTO, isysd and g-p-g. The Deginner team has built many cryptocurrency services and apps in the past, and now focuses entirely on open source tools. They developed the lamassu-coinapult trade, wallet, and ticker plugins, and have good relationships with the Lamassu team, as well as many of their operators. If this project is approved, Deginner will ensure it is deployed on at least one network of BTMs, starting with the one in Panama City, Panama.

Special thanks to Minotaur (Head of Business Development for Dash) for making this possible.

Transform PR - Michael Terpin - 1100 DASH - 3 months

The Dash project has been growing fast and it has gotten to the point where we feel is important to have professional PR representation with experience in the crypto industry. During the Labitconf conference in Mexico City, we were lucky to meet PR specialist Michael Terpin and had the opportunity to discuss Dash in detail and he was able to see the potential and became interested in working with Dash. Transform PR has been behind many very successful campaigns such as Etherium, Counterparty and Mastercoin.

Counting with the support of industry leaders like Michael willing to work with Dash and help promote it to a larger user base, shows the world Dash is a special project with a lot of potential.

Transform Group is the leading PR firm in the cryptocurrency sector, having represented more than 40 companies, organizations and projects in the sectors since 2013, including Augur, Bitcoin Shop, Blade, ChangeTip, Factom, Gem, GEMS, GoCoin, Gyft, KnCMiner, Kraken, Mastercoin, MaidSafe, Rivetz, ShapeShift, Storj, Swarm and Tether.

SocialRadius is the social media marketing division of Transform Group. With roots going back to 2003, it is one of the nation’s first social media marketing agencies, pioneering many strategies and techniques that are common today. SocialRadius crafts unique, dedicated solutions to each client’s individual requirements. Today, its solutions involve a powerful combination of social network marketing (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+) and social platforms (YouTube, Wikipedia, Tumblr, Quora, Reddit), as well as blog development and content marketing. SocialRadius works with large multinationals as well as smaller entities across a number of industries, and its programs range from strategy and training to full campaign execution. Success stories include the outreach for recording artist will.i.am’s Yes We Can video for the Obama campaign (which won 2008 Emmy, Global Media and Webby awards, as well as a 2009 Clio Gold Lion, garnering 50 million views on YouTube and 500 million traditional media impressions); social media event marketing for Live8, social mobile marketing at LiveEarth, the Green Inaugural Ball and the David Lynch Foundation; and the viral marketing of Scarface School Play for Rockhard Films (3 million views in two days).

What will the campaign be focused on?

This initial three-month campaign seeks to gain a high level of visibility in both the crypto community and the mainstream business and technology press, which is critical to driving new user adoption and demonstrating industry leadership. Through a hyper-targeted, aggressive, yet strategic approach, Transform will initiate the perfect storm of media coverage extending traditional outreach across the crypto, technology, and business verticals.

The goals for our campaign on behalf of Dash include the following:
1. Establish Dash as the first privacy-centric cryptographic currency that is based on Bitcoin software and addresses many of the problems of Bitcoin.
2. Increase understanding of Dash’s digital asset and unique blockchain technology.
3. Raise visibility around Dash’s technological achievements within the crypto community through a steady stream of hard news coverage, as well as begin to penetrate top-tier business and technology media through features and commentary.
4. Substantially increase the visibility of Dash in blogs and/or Web searches throughout the three-month campaign, as well as in social media mentions as a result of this increased coverage.
5. Increase understanding and demand for Dash, resulting in higher volume and price relative to bitcoin.

Investment

Traditional Public Relations Elements
• $6,000 per month for Public Relations, Thought Leadership, and Conferences

The Firm’s basic retainer is an estimate of actual hours expected to be billed by the Firm for this campaign, according to the Firm’s standard hourly rate schedule. Client will be notified in advance if total hours are expected to exceed the monthly retainer. Unless otherwise agreed, this retainer is intended as a flat fee.

Expenses: Newswire distribution, if desired, is billed separately and averages about $300 per release. Any long-distance travel in support of trade shows or press tours (involving airplanes and/or hotels) will be paid for by Client, typically in advance. There are no travel expenses where CEO Michael Terpin is already attending a conference and simply shares time among clients and speaking.

What is this proposal for?

This proposal is only asking for partial funding of 1100 DASH for 3 months to complete the required budget as the currently existing PR budget will now be mostly dedicated to this program with Michael for the next 3 months and will cover most of the expenses. Depending on results we expect to continue to collaborate with Transform.PR during 2016.

Special thanks to Minotaur for helping with this project.

January Budget:

Hi everyone, I am from Deginner and am happy to answer any questions related to the Lamassu integration. We are very excited to finally get an opportunity to work with Dash, and look forward to developing new access ramps and use cases in the future.

Hi and welcome!

It is interesting opportunity, but... 610DASH*12moths is a big amount... So my questions are:

1. How many ATMs with DASH do you plan to see (really working in the field ATMs) till the end of 2016?
2. Will it be updated ATMs that are working in "only-Bitcoin" mode now or only new ATMs?
3. Do you plan to add any other cryptocurrencies (in addition to Dash and Bitcoin) to your ATMs in 2016?

Thanks.

Hi alex-ru, thanks for your questions. The work is not trivial to make this a good integration, and we want it to be something Lamassu themselves would be proud to merge. More importantly it has to work very well for operators. We intend to operate and support Dash-enabled machines ourselves.

1. This isn't really up to us... we just write the software. Anyone can buy and operate machines. That being said, I'd guess 5-20 Dash-enabled CTMs (crypto teller machines) will be in the field by the end of 2016.
2. The final build for this project will include an installer that an existing Lamassu operator could use to add Dash support. I'm told that Lamassu will be coming out with an official installer package soon, which we'll integrate with, when ready.
3. We don't have any plans to add other cryptocurrencies to Lamassu CTMs as of yet.

Evan,
What is the progress on InstantX for the android mobile wallet? This is a requirement for ATMs and any point of sale terminals. We also have a use for this with a project we are doing for Miami and have asked fulltimegeek for help, but no update in the last 2 weeks. This should be a priority.

I would suggest we dissolve the public awareness proposal. We now have overlapping proposals with Transform PR. We should switch to voting in proposals individually. DailyDecrypt, events, conferences, Transform PR, can all be voted on individually. The public awareness team has also not provided any details how the funding up to date has been allocated or any anticipated future uses(except Transform PR). Specifically what advertising is included and what is not and why the DailyDecrypt not in the public awareness but Transform PR is?

Great news with the ATM integration. Dash is a perfect fit!

Excellent news! Voted!

to vote with (linux only) dashvote, have your dash-cli and masternode.conf in ~/.dash and do:
Code:
git clone https://github.com/moocowmoo/dashman.git
dashman/dashman vote
You'll be prompted to install any missing dependencies if needed.

This is all great news, way beyond anything I thought we were up to at this point.

I do have a recurring question I haven't managed to get answered though: what have all previous advertising budgets up to December been spent on? That is like 20k+ and I haven't seen an accounting of that. Sorry if I missed that post about it, but would be happy to hear back from someone in the know.

Pablo.

I wonder why the masternode votes are so low.

Is it safe to assume that people who hold large portions of masternodes are not voting because wouldn't it be obvious when they do vote? Maybe these masternode operators spread the votes out so as to not increase or decrease it so rapidly?

I get it, people don't want to publicize their votes or whether or not they are voting at all. I know there are some big whales out there with some big masternode holdings, and I'm wondering why they are not voting? Do people stop voting once a proposal is passed? If so why?

We have this amazing technology, this community is one of the first of it's kind, but for some reason it seems that some people just don't give a shit? it's a little disheartening.

Congrats on the budget proposal, lets hope we can figure out why people are not participating and perhaps put in a proposal to fix it? :)
