Most of the proposal funding is for marketing. He did a substantial amount of development work before he ever approached the Dash network. Don't forget, there is already a functional product. The funds for marketing is indirectly (but primarily) for Dash.

Perhaps you missed the part about paying for ads, at half the market rate. Would you rather have 12 free golden eggs, or half of a 100 golden eggs?
It depends on the
circumstances sometimes the half off deal can adversly impact you than you previously had recognized

Executive summary of ROI math:

We did the math for 3 scenarios. The worst case scenario is, we only capture 1% of the traffic that CoinMarketCap gets. Under that worst case scenario, Dash makes 12% return per month on their investment and have totally recovered their costs in a little over 8 months.

The second scenario, we capture 10% of the traffic that CMC gets. Dash makes 192% return on investment, per month (once hitting 10% rate of traffic). So Dash recovers all their investment in 16 days (once we hit 10% traffic) and after that, it's all gravy. In this scenario, Dash saves/makes 1.72 million dollars per year from a $75,000 investment.

And if we actually meet or exceed CMC's traffic levels, then Dash makes/saves $880,000 per month, or 10.5 million dollars a year on their $75,000 investment.

So let's not hear about what poor ROI this proposal offers. Or let's hear exactly how the math is wrong.

Some thoughts...

For me, the value in CMC is not so much features, but rather, it offers a "standard measure" of sorts about the state of the market. Many people might say, for example, that Ripple is not worthy of inclusion, but at least when someone references CMC, we all have a shared view of the market. Thus, the hardest part for acceptance is not whether you can get the right features, but how to get into the minds of key social influencers. It's kind of like hearing the Pepsi Top 40; it carries some weight. It doesn't really help that a specific crypto (dash) is getting priority advertising. Compare CMC with coincap.io (owned by ShapeShift). CMC is ranked 106 by Alexa, whereas coincap.io is ranked 14181, which isn't too bad, though I'm sure they've thrown a shitload of money to get there. With this in mind, I consider 1% of CMC market share as entirely realistic.

Regarding a portfolio manager, I personally wouldn't use it; don't want share that kind of info with anyone. I just use CMC's API to pull price data for my own accounts.

I'm not saying this isn't doable but I think the choice of features is more about quality than quantity. And dash influence should be there but subtle.

And I kind of wish someone did a crypto version of the Big Mac Index.

Finally, I have an idea regarding coin / token listings that I think might work. There is certain info about these crypto projects that we all like to see but, of course, CMC simply gives us a link and we have to go digging for it ourselves. For example, a list of people on the team, upcoming events, roadmaps etc. I propose, to get listed on this site, the coin / token creators must place a standardized text file that describes the entity and places it on their webserver in a predetermined location. For example, a text file listing all team members must go to the path "/coininfo/team/names.txt". Thus, you pull the data, and all your visitors can directly see this info without leaving your site, and you place the responsibility of accurate data with the coin / token creators. Likewise, images of the team members could be placed in the team directory.

And I would move the links "Timeline", "Photos" and "Videos" close to the top of the page.. certainly above the chart. In fact, if I want to look at photos, why must I scroll past a chart?

@GrandMasterDash

I am already working on a complete site redesign, the brand and design you see now will be replaced entirely.

It's funny that you mention the big mac index, someone requested I build a chart to show how many cups of coffee you could buy with each cryptocurrency, making a bunch of variations of this ( big mac index ) may be a a great marketing tool.

Instead of the .txt file the idea was to ask each team to provide a publicly available json endpoint providing as much info around the coin as possible. I would like to work with them to setup a single standard so anyone can hit the endpoint and receive the data in the same format but it will come down to properly explaining the ROI to each team.

As for the rest of your concerns we pretty much agree ( search box change, timeline/tabs, working with influencers )

I think there's value in the Big Mac / coffee idea. Perhaps a small basket of products would be better?

Yes, you could use a json format. I was just aiming for simplicity. By all means, publish a standard for others to follow. I think once these coins / tokens see the results, they will happily participate.

My interview with Craig Mason is live.

It's also my coming out party. I have never publicly shown my face for Dash before.

Go vote! We need all the help we can get.

The voting is not looking good. But on the plus side, I have voted yes for this because I believe the developer has good intentions and is open to feedback.

I said this before but I believe the success of CMC is based on the standard measure it provides. With this in mind, I am wondering if it would be useful to provide a menu to various market profiles. For example:
  • Global Mean Average
  • South East Asia Markets
  • Latin America Markets
  • Emerging Markets
  • G20 Markets
  • Big Mac Index (or equivalent)
  • and so on
I know the plan is for customization but I think market profiles would be more useful and accessible.

In 18 days, when the vote is finished, we will analyze this in mnowatch site.

You may see who voted "YES" and who voted "NO", in the site. You may filter with the keyword cmc-alternative , accordingly.
At a first glance, there were voters who get used to vote that voted "NO", and not one night stand voters. The same applies to the "YES" voters also.

I would like to see a new coinmarket cap, for the below reasons:
Coinmarketcap refers to fiat money as capital.
This is unfair.
I would like this alternative marketcap to give to the viewer the option to choose his own coin as a reference coin.
Why do they sort coins based on FIAT money capitalization? Fiat money is yet another coin.
So let this new marketcap sort the coins upon the choice of the viewer. I would like to sort the coins based on dash capitalization as reference, for example.
I am not a masternode but I voted yes.
For every coin I would like to see also its features.
For example, flagging the governed coins would be usefull.

I think you should continue your work, regardless what the MNOs said.

Here follows a case study, you may discover more case studies if you search carefully in the data.

You may win 22 votes next time, if you convince the below operator from Lithuania who holds 11 masternodes and voted "NO" for you. He is a new voter, he abstained from voting last year and you can confirm that if you search for his masternodes, in the 2017 dashninja report.

I agree. The first thing I look at on CMC is the overall MC. (this is the MOST IMPORTANT aspect)
I voted YES for Solarguy's proposal. Was disappointed it did not pass.

I appreciate the support. Of course, I was disappointed that it didn't pass. What was so surprising was that it got so many no votes after such an overwhelmingly positive pre-proposal discussion. It will make an interesting case study, so the effort is not entirely wasted. And, we're not dropping the project. it will just take a while to develop significant traffic without much in the way of paid marketing.

No. Absolutey no.

Coinmarketcap already exists.

What DASH should do is stop being a bunch of do-nothing sissies afraid of winning, and dominate the market with it's features and capacity to be real cryptoCURRENCY where nothing else is fit for the real-world use case.

You can't make it on the real coinmarketcap, so you're going to hide in the corner and wank it with failure as the lube?

I'm sooo impressed...

This is admitting that DASH is useless and it's leadership is impotent. While I'm sadly forced by facts and reality to agree with that assessment, I don't want to advertise it...
