Will Darkcoin always be fast to confirm?

I noticed Drk has much faster confirmation time than Btc, averaging 2 to 3 minutes, where Btc is averaging 9 to 10 minutes. I was wondering if that speed will degrade over time? Will it get slower like Btc, as the coin progresses, gets more popular, the number of transactions increase, and the chain gets larger? Seems to me that, confirmation speed is a key issue, even more than anonymity.

Darkcoin generates a new block every two and a half minutes. So every two and a half minutes, new transactions are broadcast across the network. It might become slower when a fee is required to send your transaction in the next block.

As soon as the network does broadcast your transaction though, it will still only take 2.5minutes for the first and subsequent confirmations.
