Sub-Ether's Guide to CPU mining

Cpu Mining

Ok everyone, its time to hash the Dash using your trusty cpu cores to find X11 solutions on the windows platform.

This is a fairly simple procedure and examples will be given in order to achieve the fastest possible hash rate for your cpu, but remember that more optimized miners can exist, so I advise you to keep an eye out on mining sites such as these in order to keep up with the latest releases.
http://cryptomining-blog.com

Firstly

You will need the software, and a good starting place is this,

https://github.com/elmad/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.3-avx-aes

If you are on an older computer and the above fails try tpruvot’s miner (it will be slower on i3,i5,i7 and because it does not use the cpu's aes instruction set that was introduced after 2008)

https://github.com/tpruvot/cpuminer-multi/releases/tag/v1.1-multi

Secondly

You must join a team of people in order to find and solve blocks, simply choose a good pool or p2p node that is reliable and either set your wallet address as the user or your newly created user name as 'worker.1' and set the password to ‘x’ inside the pool account settings.

Pool suggestions include:-

a) xpool.ca (profit switching, mines best X11 coin, user is Dash wallet address and pays in Dash).
https://www.xpool.ca/

b) The global p2p at p2poolmining.us (low latency, has many nodes, user is Dash wallet address)
http://www.p2poolmining.us/mining-pools/

c) Suchpool(standard signing up format,mines only Dash, user creates workers in account setup,user = worker.1 )
https://www.suchpool.pw/dash

Goto your 'folder and search options' via organize in Computer and untick 'hide extensions for known file types' so that the files extensions can be seen.

Thirdly

It is suggested you keep the mining in a separate folder but it can remain in the download folder(the wallet does not need to be running)

I will work from the desktop for this example.
p2p pool node is selected from here :- http://www.p2poolmining.us/p2poolnodes/

all nodes should work, but select the lowest ping for low latency.
For this example, Chiang Mai in Thailand will be used.
http://103.13.228.168:7903/static/

Now inside the mining folder, create a text file called startminer.txt
inside the text file, place this
(the minerd is all one line, the pause is on the second line)

minerd-corei7-avx.exe -a X11 --url http://103.13.228.168:7903 -u XpqhTM2WKWJrMqn48icsNZKiPuQ8MFEnSp -p x -t 8
pause

Rename the startminer.txt file to startminer.bat

For normal pools, like suchpool, make an account and then create a worker, update the account, then add this in the text editor instead of the above.

minerd-corei7-avx.exe -a X11 --url stratum+tcp://stratum1.suchpool.pw:3335 -u worker.1 -p x -t 8
pause

Save the text file and then rename the extension to .bat so that startminer.txt = startminer.bat

t = number of threads used
p = password
u= any Dash receiving address in your wallet (or worker)
7903,3335 = port used
a= X11 sets the algorithm used
pause= holds the window on errors

Fourthly

You are ready to start now!

Press ctrl, alt and delete for task manager to see cpu usage and be careful that the cpu temperature does not exceed your maximum factory ratings (around 64C).
If you have temperature or desktop usability problems reduce for t ~ 2 threads and try that first.
If t is left out the machine will default to the maximum number of threads.

You can check the payouts and hash speed inside your account at suchpool.
For p2pmining nodes and Chiang Mai, the account is here,

http://103.13.228.168:7903/static/graphs.html?Day

(search your wallet address on the page, the example is ‘XpqhTM2WKWJrMqn48icsNZKiPuQ8MFEnSp’

And use the main map for global statistics and the IP above.
http://www.p2poolmining.us/p2poolnodes/

Click startminer.bat and you should have a window appear like this.
(Hash speed with an i7 and 8 threads ~ 482 kilohash)

An older 2.4 GHz Intel Duo E4600 machine using tpruvot’s miner, using xpool.ca, hashing the most profitable X11 coin and paying in Dash.(hash speed 43 kilohash)

Tips:

1) Reduce thread number for added desktop usability and heat reduction.
2) If the CPU temp is too high, consider fitting a new fan and check heat sink thermal paste on the CPU is adequate.
3) Tweak the processor clock speed for added performance using a motherboard controller like AI Suite. Reduction of CPU core voltage will result in lower temperature but increased instability.
4) try to select a pool that is nearby to reduce ping and latency for getwork. If the node appears slow switch to another location.
The p2p pool, http://www.p2poolmining.us/p2poolnodes/ has many nodes around the world to choose from, please distribute the hashing globally to different pools to avoid forking.

Happy mining!

Wow Sub, I've had this working for quite sometime, but I will try out these new configs thanks man!

Elmad's miner is 2.4 times quicker that tpruvot's (as recommended by nicehash) and you can choose more miners for specific cpu.

Hi there,
My cpu miner is run and it is using my CPU up to 54%, but when I go to the pool statistics, it I am not in the list of active miners. Why is that?
