Proposal: masternode proxy voting

There are probably masternode owners who are too busy to follow the budget proposals and figure out which ones to vote for.

It would be nice if there were an automated proxy voting system.

This would allow a masternode to designate some other masternode as their proxy. The proxy would then be entitled to vote on behalf of the first masternodes.

So now we have the beginnings of a representative government. You can imagine masternode owners offering to be proxies for others, just like people run for legislative positions in government.

A masternode could, of course, withdraw its proxy delegation at any time, and begin voting itself. This would give the the proxy masternodes an incentive to not misuse their proxy power.

You can already do that by giving somebody your mnprivkey. To revoke their proxy would involve a little effort since you'd have to change your mnprivkey and thus your local and remote config files, but it could be done.

I'm not sure it's necessary to build proxy voting into the network -- in fact it might be inadvisable for security reasons, creating an attack surface that then has to be defended.

I could imagine instead of proxy voting, there might be something like slate cards. Well respected so-and-so recommends voting YES on these proposals this month. Rather than giving so-and-so a proxy, the MNO just votes according to the trusted slate recommendations.

Proxy voting or some sort of representative voting system will happen sooner or later -- all serious democratic systems, including those used to run corporations as well as those used to run countries, have it. It's not a question of whether but when. We may as well begin thinking about it now, and build that into the system with forethought.
