The official proposal is now live! Please view the proposal here: https://www.dashcentral.org/p/World-Crypto-Con-Sponsorship

Pre-proposal for Dash to be a top sponsor at World Crypto Con. World Crypto Con is set out to be the largest crypto conference to date at the Aria Hotel and Casino in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 31st to November 2nd, 2018.

    Introduction

    Hello Dash Community,

My name is Jeremy Liu and I have been working with the team at World Crypto Con to create a specialized sponsorship package for the Dash network. We’ve created three separate sponsorship packages, at three different price points, that we would like to present to the network with the hopes of facilitating conversation about which sponsorship package the network deems the most effective for its price. These packages are not static, if you think a certain item within the package should be removed, or a certain item should be added, please comment below so that we can work on building the best sponsorship package for the Dash ecosystem!

    About World Crypto Con

World Crypto Con has set out to be the world’s largest and most exciting conference in the cryptocurrency space. The venue is located in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the beautiful Aria Hotel and Casino with over 200,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space. This year the team expects between 2000-4000 attendees, over 150 exhibitors, and top influential speakers including two familiar faces from the Dash community - Amanda B. Johnson, former host of “DASH: Detailed,” and Joel Valenzuela, editor of Dash Force News.

    Benefits to the Dash community

    1. Brand Exposure - World Crypto Con will be at the largest venue (by far) a crypto conference has ever been hosted at. The Aria Hotel and Casino is in the middle of the famous Las Vegas Strip and World Crypto Con has access to the giant Aria Marquee (look it up on Google Images if you have not seen it yet) and Dash will be on it (all of the pre-configured packages include this). Furthermore, the Dash brand will not be only exposed impactfully during the event, but both before the event (through World Crypto Con’s advertising) and after the event (through carefully chosen take home items given out in the gift bags and at the Dash booth).

    2. Exemplify Community Strength - This sponsorship proposal is 100% community driven and shows how powerful the DAO/Treasury is in its ability to further the Dash ecosystem. The individuals representing the Dash community at the booth will not only be explaining why DASH is the best cryptocurrency for payments, but also why the Dash community is the strongest in the space. Our community strength is shown both directly (by explaining what Dash is to the attendees) and indirectly (by having the community members lead the booth) during a time when many other crypto communities are being divided.

    3. DASH Payments - World Crypto Con will only be accepting a few cryptocurrencies as a form of payment for tickets to the conference, DASH being one of the few. This is a huge signal for anyone who may not know what Dash is to check out why the conference picked DASH to be one of the few payment methods accepted. In addition, for those who do know what Dash is and/or own DASH, it opens up another avenue for us to showcase/use our beloved currency.

Who will manage all of this?

General - Currently, I plan on managing the relationship between the World Crypto Con team and the Dash community including all branding components, all sponsorship materials, and any other aspects not mentioned here. I have been in contact with members of the Dash Core Business Strategy team to ensure everything stays coherent with the Dash brand. In addition, Joel Valenzuela has offered to assist where needed. With that said, if the community believes someone else is a better fit to manage this project, I am more than willing to let he/she/them do so.

Booth - The booth will be managed by any Dash community members who want to help grow the Dash ecosystem and believe they can represent the brand well. As of writing, the booth will be occupied by myself and Joel. In addition, each sponsorship package comes with a certain number of VIP conference access badges. Initially, these will be offered to any members of Dash Core Group who would like to help manage the booth. Any leftover tickets will then be offered to top members of the Dash community (chosen/approved by the community) that would like to help out.

What if the price of DASH increases/decreases?

With the current sponsorship packages, we were offered a 15% discount. I propose to submit the proposal for the full amount, therefore having a 15% buffer for price declines. Any excess funds will be placed back into other conference-related costs, including but not limited to, gift bag inserts, branding material for the booth, items we can giveaway at the booth, travel expenses for top Dash community members assisting at the Dash booth, etc.

In the case of a price increase, I propose using those excess funds to fulfill some of the items listed above, as well as purchasing other interactive branding opportunities offered by World Crypto Con such as the photo booth (as an example).

Like everything else regarding this pre-proposal, the above is not static and I am open for discussions on what the community feels is best.

    About Me

My name is Jeremy Liu and I am involved with the Dash sponsored Blockchain Research Lab at ASU and submitted the Dash and ASU proposal in November. Currently, my main focus has been helping build the content for the Dash funded Coursera course (filming will begin shortly), but have worked on Dash scalability as well as represented Dash at the Texas Bitcoin Conference.

Hello my friend. It's a really good idea. Just a question: The pre-proposal is for uno of three sponsorship packages? If so wich one are you proposing.

Correct, the proposal will be for one of the sponsorship packages, whether that is one of the pre-configured ones shown here or if there is some configuration that the community would like to support instead.

If this month's budget allows for it, I would love to see the "Go Big or Go Home" sponsorship package being the one we go with, as this package gives Dash the largest and most impactful presence at the event itself.

Ok. Then maybe it would be better if as your proposal you put the "Go Big or Go Home" sponsorship, because if i'm not wrong, the proposal has to be for one because the MNO's vote for the entire proposal.

Yes, the actual proposal will be for one package and at the time of submission of said proposal there will be a specific package chosen and the cost of that package will be detailed. However, in this pre-proposal, I am not attempting to present only a single package. The main objective of this pre-proposal is to facilitate discussion over the various different options and ultimately will submit/choose a specific package based on such discussions.

In other words, I am asking for the network's opinion of what they want to see and support, instead of presenting to the network a direct proposal that I completely decided by myself. Not the "traditional" route of how a proposal is made and compiled, but I think a "community-driven" proposal attempt (such as this one) could be very fruitful and inclusive by construction.

One on hand, it's always nice to be able to throw Dash's weight around and show that "Dash can afford this," but on the other, what is the actual ROI in convention participation? What will Dash gain from having a significant, "monied" presence at these conferences when it seems at times the whole cryptosphere is against us because it's largely full of adolescent-behaving, hype-addicted speculative investors? From the breakdown in the second document, it looks like over 2/3 of the attendees will be people already involved in this space either directly in existing projects or secondary businesses involved with or utilizing these projects. I suppose that could be useful for networking toward further integrations and partnerships, but wasn't that one of Core's big pushes with the other of their two recent proposals (FinTech Conventions, etc)? What is Core's involvement going to be--if any--if this proposal passes, have you contacted them to see if anyone from Core would be on board? Who is going to handle our speaking engagements--assuming we opt for one of the more expensive packages (is that why you mentioned Amanda and Joel, or are they already scheduled for appearances)? I would personally like to see allocations of this level for conferences to be more driven toward establishing connections/partnerships/integrations instead of just filling space and spreading awareness. If we had even a showable demo (like the old mock-up video one from a while back) of Evolution, that would be the perfect thing to showcase at events like this, but alas...

At any rate, I think it's a good idea that we fund this and have a presence, but how much and to what extent might depend largely on what the rest of the budget looks like and what more can be elucidated about the ROI. There might be other high-value proposals coming this month, so it's essential that we prioritize funding toward the ones that are going to make the biggest impact for Dash long-term.

Btw, cool to hear firsthand from people involved with the ASU project. It's neat to see these projects turning out inspiring people to really dive in to the crypto space on a more involved level!

To begin with, thank you for your input (this is exactly what I am looking for)! Allow me to provide my insight on some of the points mentioned here:
    1. To speak on the topic of having a presence at conferences while “the whole cryptosphere is against us,” I believe times like these are the exact times that we need to continue to push forward and make an effort to present our professionalism and resiliency. Consistency is key for gaining new users, partners, integrations, etc., regardless of the outlook from those type of people that you mentioned.

    2. Core’s recent conference proposal focused on conferences that are not directly cryptocurrency focused (Money 20/20 [Asia, Europe, USA] and MPE Berlin). I believe that for Dash to move forward with conferences in a holistic manner (sponsoring and having a presence at different types of conferences with different types of audiences) will prove to be the most effective strategy. To my understanding, Dash currently does not have a large cryptocurrency-focused conference sponsorship/presence solidified for the second half of 2018 yet. The fact that World Crypto Con is located in the largest venue a crypto conference has ever been held at, in addition to the date being in the second half of 2018, makes it a very appealing option.

    3. Core’s involvement up until this point has been myself contacting a member of the Dash Core Strategy Team, him reviewing the proposal and agreeing to aid in the Dash branding (booth ideation, giveaway item ideation, etc). I did not asked Dash Core as a whole to give support of this proposal/pre-proposal, only that if it does get passed if certain members would help me in the branding aspect.

    4. To address the speaking engagements, both Amanda and Joel’s speaking spots are proposal agnostic and are not a function of any specific sponsorship package. I would love for a member of Dash Core to fill the “Sponsorship Spotlight” speaking engagement if this proposal gets passed, but I also believe that there are many Dash community members who can represent Dash equally as well. It is both a blessing and a curse that the actual event is happening relatively far in the future (little more than 7 months) and asking for commitments from any party can prove to be difficult. With that said, this also gives the community (or myself, if the Dash community wants me to handle this part of the work) ample time to find the best person available for that role.

    5. Lastly, to discuss establishing connections/partnerships/integrations, this is one of my personal main goals as well, in terms of ROI. I believe the demographic that the WCC is aiming for is a perfect fit for this; as they are not only focusing on newcomers to cryptocurrency, but also business professionals, startups, venture capitalists, etc. Because of this, I do believe within the attendees there will be potential partnerships and connections. If by the time the event happens there is any form of demo/video/interactive material for Evolution, I will present it at the booth and will keep in contact with Core for such materials. Albeit, I am not a fortune teller and cannot give any guarantees of any specific outcome, but will do the best I can to accomplish such goals.

    @Dashonomics:

    1. I think that's a reasonable strategy, continued presence and resiliency is important, not just in defiance or to avoid showing weakness to detractors, but because we have to continue to stay relevant and public and open about who we are and what we're about. Let's hope the greater DAO agrees.

    2. Yes, that's a good point. Even though we're trying to branch beyond the cryptosphere in terms of adoption and integration, we still need to keep a foot in the door. If we have more info or even a working demo of Evolution by then--and heaven help us if we don't--this could be a huge win for us. I hadn't considered that implication of the timeframe of this conference.

    3. Good enough for me. I don't need all or even most proposals to have Core support or approval, but having their endorsement or at least assistance for large, public displays like this is important, hopefully we'll be able to nail down all this "rebranding" hubbub soon to expedite that sort of planning.

    4. Yes, surely you'll be able to find someone qualified, engaging, and appropriate for those engagements with that much lead time. Might want to plan on backups just in case, though, and touch bases with prospective speakers long in advance to gauge their interest and availability.

    5. On this point, could you talk a little more about your qualifications, interest, and "investment" (whatever that means to you) in Dash in particular? If we have people representing Dash and trying to establish professional relationships and presence for the network, it's important that they have all the virtues and skills and knowledge that we expect from brand ambassadors. Like I said, it's not imperative that Core be involved in every professional engagement, but we'll need people approaching their caliber if we're going to make those connections with ideal contacts and partners.

Definitely. I’ll break up my answer in terms of Dash specific interest/involvement and then other general work that may speak for my qualifications to represent an organization. However, this is not me attempting to insinuate that I am the only person I want/need at the booth. I believe various people have various backgrounds within the Dash ecosystem and that an aggregate of such people with diverse involvement will be the best representation.

Dash: Being involved with the Blockchain Research Lab, that has focused on Dash projects, has put me in a position where I believe that I am highly knowledgeable of Dash’s features and the technical details of the inner-workings of such features. In addition, since the nature of research is forward-looking, I am also well-versed in certain forward-looking aspects of Dash. Moreover, I have personally met and conversed with several members of Dash Core (both in-person and online) about various aspects of Dash and am confident that I understand the vision/mission from their perspective. In terms of conferences, I was behind the Dash booth at the Texas Bitcoin Conference for the full duration of the event (any judgement of my performance there is completely subjective since it is coming from myself… but I think I did well). Lastly, I am financially invested in Dash, but will not disclose any further information regarding that.

General: I’ll discuss briefly general situations where I have professionally represented organizations. I co-founded an organization called the Blockchain Innovation Society (currently in the filing process of becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) in which I give weekly general blockchain presentations (past presentations have included topics such as introduction to blockchain technology, blockchain scalability, blockchain privacy and blockchain governance) to general audiences (audience size of <= 150). I manage a portion of ASU’s endowment fund and have presented, on behalf of my team, to the ASU Foundation and their partners. I represented ASU in a roundtable held by the Congressional Blockchain Caucus which had officials of government bodies, law firms, and multiple blockchain projects present at.

Like the discussion that's going on here and reading it, I am willing to support this at the "Go Big or Go Home" level.

"Go Big or Go Home" will be the best option for DASH.

Would it be possible to introduce DASH as payment method at the Crypto Coffee Bar ?

The Crypto Coffee Bar at World Crypto Con will be completely paid for by the sponsor of the Crypto Coffee Bar. With that, all attendees will have access to free coffee; thus, no payment method will be accepted at the bar. However, it is open for discussion if the network feels that we should be the sponsor of the Crypto Coffee Bar as I expect there to be quite a bit of traffic in that area throughout the event. Cheers!

Thanks, that's basically what I wanted to know, sounds like you're more than up to the task. You've got my approval as an ambassador, the question then becomes in my mind what "level" of sponsorship and how many "ala carte" items we'll want to pick up? These people really know how to nickel & dime you, relatively speaking...

In my opinion, going with the pre-configured “Go Big or Go Home” package hits the bases for an impactful presence at the event. The Diamond Sponsorship gets Dash to be the most prominent sponsor with the greatest visibility within the event, the lanyards gives us arguably the most kept take-home item from conferences (in addition to everyone wearing it at the event and taking pictures with it on), the 20x20 booth gives the team plenty of room to do both giveaways and demos, and lastly the presence of Dash on the Aria Marquee gives us exposure to the whole Las Vegas Strip during the event.

    Hello all,

I would like to give a quick update from my end after communicating with the team at World Crypto Con.

The team has been getting a lot of interest for the larger sponsorships (especially the Diamond Sponsorship that is within my pre-configured “Go Big or Go Home” Package). I have communicated with them that the current sentiment is that the network wants Dash to be the prominent sponsor at the event and I have negotiated with them to give us some more time but as they are a business, they cannot reject every other interested organization forever (not something that would be advisable for any business, obviously).

With that said, I plan on presenting the final pre-proposal with the specific package that the Dash network would like to support (currently being the pre-configured “Go Big or Go Home” Package) in the upcoming days and then submitting the real proposal to Dash Central shortly after. Please share this thread with any person that you feel would be interested in partaking in this discussion before the actual proposal is submitted.

    Cheers!

Welp, given the gap in Core's scheduled appearances, I think this is a great opportunity to show the crypto world that Dash is more than just the Core Devs, and we can bring our greater DAO to bear to fully staff a conference with all the trimmings, not merely as a show of power or budget, but as a working example of what our fully-operational battle DAO :)cool:) is capable of, that Dash is not just another cryptocurrency, but a full-fledged organization that can do pretty much anything and that it continues to be overlooked and undervalued despite its capabilities. We should do it because outside of a generous donation here and there, no one else can, and that means something for the future of our technology and crypto as a whole. With that, I'm in support of the "Go Big or Go Home" package sponsorship, and I hope the others agree.
