source is available right here: https://github.com/Leo-ajc/ProTip

It'd be great if there were a Dash, Doge, Litecoin version... especially if they could improve the core software and just have the coins be modules... but anyway, the code is there...

edit: how do you tag people like evan lol? I feel like this would be huge for sending family members dash, sending charities or any other party that might not be aware of the awesomeness that is this technology. So maybe it should be incorporated into the wallet? or the website? or as a website? like shapeshift.io decentralized but in a send to email, or through facebook/other social networks type thing?

I kind of like how backslash.io did it with the whole custom landing page thing or maybe how ChangeTip.com does it, but with a more simple approach?

Hey TheDashGuy, if you want to tag someone, you just put an @ in front of their name, like twitter. Just a caution, though, eduffield rarely responds to my tagging of him here. I wish you better luck...

Well I was just going to say to tag all of them so they atleast are aware of this at some level, its absolutely useful to the cause! and open source! and it might only take them a weekend to give us a HUGE tool to spread awareness, who knows? They would be the best to figure it out.

Who else would be worthy of a tag? you would know lol and thanks TaoOfSatoshi

There are a few other related projects that come to mind...

One of the best ideas I've seen is the Zero-Click project, using a 402 http header. It would be awesome if Zero-Click could be adapted to include other cryptos.

There is also a chrome extension called Bitcoin Microformats that detects bitcoin addresses on a web page. It's open source, so maybe someone could add dash...

https://github.com/jonwaller/Bitcoin-Microformats

And finally, just a reminder that an href can launch a bitcoin wallet <a href="bitcoin:1xxxx....

But anyway, tbh, I really think Zero-Click is the way to go because it is not browser / extension specific and it could easily be adapted to any coin.

Hey it's Chris, I am the co-founder of ProTip. You are more than welcome to fork the code or alternatively Leo, the developer on the ProTip git repo is also looking for some contract work and since he knows the code inside out it could give any Dash developers a real headstart. Just ping him on Github or I can pass along email details.

We looked at other alternatives including Kryptokit in terms of the regex is really simple, the hard part was the API, miner fees, weekly autopayments, things like that.

Let me know if you need any help with this.
