X-posted from bitcointalk:

please consider that the logo is not for us -- it's for people who know absolutely nothing about Darkcoin and are encountering it for the first time.

I should also raise the point that it's still an open question about how "dark" the logo should feel. There are a few approaches here:

- Embrace a consistent "dark" visual branding to coincide with the name
- Choose a neutral visual branding that leaves the interpretation of "Darkcoin" open in the viewer's mind
- Convey a specific message with the branding that turns the viewer's mind to a specific idea (e.g. privacy)

There are pros & cons to each of these. Some might argue that "dark" is a good schtick and will generate publicity. Others might argue that dark branding will cement an association with illegal activity in the viewer's mind.

With branding, it's less about picking what looks cool, and more about thinking through the ramifications, particularly in terms of how newbies will interpret our image / purpose / motivations.

This with a keyhole in the "D" would be nice to see. It's really really good as is. Clean lines. An arrow changing directions. Easily recognizable. Also looks modern and advanced. The more I think about it the more I like it.

Almost all of them utilize a playful or loose D. At first glance I would assume it is a spin off of dogecoin without the background shibe.
It needs a universal symbol, not a letter.

Edit: I do like the one above.

My top choices are these:
1. I like this one's logo: http://i.imgur.com/anMjCCK.png, but prefer this one's coin render: http://i.imgur.com/bY1cVVP.png The design just makes me think of a network, maybe security and walls.
2. http://i.imgur.com/a1lNzvD.jpg Obviously invokes security.
3. http://i.imgur.com/fIhcGBN.jpg I don't know, just slick. Reminds me a bit of Batman though....
4. http://i.imgur.com/8B0NX90.png The image really emphasizes decentralization in my mind.
5. http://i.imgur.com/iaTvOkV.jpg I like this one as well because it sticks with the older design philosophy, but don't look like digibyte or dogecoin. I could see someone thinking it might be a sun rising or something.
6. http://i.imgur.com/jcHlsnc.jpg Looks like a road into the future. Darkcoin is the future, right?

This is the only one I liked.

This is definitely my favorite too. Very minimalist, professional and easily recognizable.

LimLims, just out of curiosity, does the designer retain any rights to the design if theirs is chosen, or do they give them up once they're paid?

After lots of thinking, this logo is not my personal favorite but it's the one with the most mass appeal. This logo is the friendly face that Darkcoin needs against negative publicity. The blue helps. And it sends enough of a message about a dark part in the blockchain. This logo is not for us so much as it is for skeptics. Also the silver coin logo is not included. I actually do not like that rendition.

This one is perfect for Darksend. Just change the coin to send. It gives the feeling of cutting edge, technological, and also sending something, going somewhere with privacy. And it seems appropriate to have that feel for people who are more familiar with Darkcoin already. I worry about sending this message to the more casual, skeptical crowd. It has the cool factor to attract people who are more interested. The logo for the coin should be more inviting IMO.

Alright last one for today.
Anybody think this holds up enough to sneak in here?
(Added some blue rim lighting to the 3D text.)
