How-to compile Dash Evolution and join test net?

Are there instructions for Windows ?
Are there instructions for Linux ?

there is no open testnet for evolution imo

Then I call for open test net. Open-Source Software project needs to be open for all.

The "Cathedral and the Bazaar" book explains the philosophy and the ideology behind Open-Source Software projects. And I recommend everyone to read it.

sure
and in principal u are right
but at the same time why would the team release all the code now - so some copycat can fork that and launch ?
there are good reasons why this is on lockdown imo - no need to "call" on anything

I understand the business incentive behind the lockdown, but are there any places where we can find some data to see that the work is ongoing and on schedule?
Is the roadmap on GitHub (https://github.com/dashpay/dash-roadmap) still valid?

I have just checked the official GitHub repo of Dash and the last commit was 17 days ago, on 6th of June on the v0.12.2.x branch (https://github.com/dashpay/dash/commits/v0.12.2.x), but I guess from your comment that Evolution is developed separately in a private repo, right? Are you planning making Evolution open-source once it's released?

Yes Evolution will be open source as soon as it's ready. However I don't know when that's gonna be.

Apparently, It is outdated and new roadmap is supposed to come out any time now.

I guess you could get in touch with the devs and work something out.

Thank you, and looking forward to the new roadmap!

Sounds good. I don't want to cause too much overhead for the devs, so could you advise who should I contact first?
I could imagine a simple stats page with the core team members' commit numbers (including the private repos) using GitHub API (like described here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/37554614/980247).

It's alright with me if we need to have a temporary closed-source stage, but it would be still nice to see that the work is being done day by day.

This post contains a lot of clues about the status of Evo dev at the moment:

https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/may-2017-dash-core-team-monthly-report.15405/

Thanks, this is what I was looking for! It would be even better if it was backed by raw data, because then sites like CoinGecko could indicate the real activity, but those monthly reports are a very good indicators for me of the progress they are making.

BTW, here are all the past reports: https://dashpay.atlassian.net/wiki/display/OC/Monthly+report
