How could we go about getting ATM software going?

I'm sure if we could do some work on a system for ATM companies an open source it they would spring up rather quickly, or current ones could add alt-coin support possibly?

Anyways, heres the only legit company I could really find that runs a business doing this: http://www.coinsource.net/

Thoughts? I feel like having a cash gateway to Dash would make things alot easier for people.

IMHO, one avenue is to talk people that make ATM bitcoin machines into adding some Shapeshift integration such that you can put in cash then convert to DASH.

See http://coinatmradar.com/chart/bitcoin-atm-location-growth/#share-by-manufacturer for the marketshare.

God no, not the dreaded Shapeshift, they get way too much credit... crappy rates, lack of liquidity (where did all that seed money go????) and low limits in the name of AML... not to mention possible ID requirement after making a deposit

So someone should decentralize such a service... LETS DECENTRALIZE EVERYTHING!

Ask a few other questions...

Why is an ATM a seemingly good idea?

Because BitClones are unfit for retail. Using the blockchain creation as the security takes forever. No one is willing to eat the risk, because its not really risk, but a sure thing that double-spends will occur when it is known someone is taking that risk.

The real answer is to make the currency fit for retail by making the transaction security asynchronous from the ledger creation.

Which DASH does.

What DASH needs is to do that which BitClones don't even bother. Stop worrying about being grandma friendly, and start being vendor friendly.

There is no precedent for the trails that DASH needs to blaze. We can't follow in the footsteps of what doesn't work, failing to capitalize on what sets DASH apart.

If you've got a pocket full of Rupees, but you ran out of gas in Kansas, that money isn't very useful, is it?

ATMs are a band-aid for a problem that DASH doesn't have. DASH can be used directly; if we show vendors that DASH is even more secure than CCs are. Not the massive and stupid risk that BitClones are.

We are dealing with a chicken/egg issue. We need to get the masses using Dash. How do you do it? You make it easy for all to get Dash. You get them comfortable with exchanging Dash for Cash and vice versa. These Bitcoin ATMS have already gone thru whatever hurdles are required to be an "exchange". We should leverage that. I think there will always be this need. Once Dash becomes ubiquitous, we may be able to eliminate the Cash option (as Camosul mentions above), then ATMs won't be as important. But for now, I think it is important in today's environment.

Check out this site: http://www.bitcoinnw.com/ or specifically this page: http://www.bitcoinnw.com/accept-bitcoin.html for how one Bitcoin ATM operator is trying to encourage businesses to use bitcoin.

As far as the GrandMasterDash opinions above with regard to ShapeShift... it does not matter if it is ShapeShift or some other exchange. If they work on ShapeShift integration then they can work on another competitor after that. They key point is to make it easy.

I was really hoping that ChangeTip was going to implement a Dash interface. Tipping is a great way to get people interested in Dash... give it to them. Reward them for doing good things. For instance, how much Dash would one collect as tips if they could actively pursue and "ban" the trolls on BitCoinTalk?

We are making slow but steady progress in the Dash ecosystem. Having an iPhone wallet (Dashwallet) is a big step. I hope we hear it being approved in the AppsStore soon.

Just gotta be patient...

Lol. Sure. How would you do it?

You have to have an "interface" to the existing world, right?

I would think its essentially a wallet that connects to some sort of banking setup. There are a few big companies out right now all charging 4k-20k per BTC ATM, so maybe an open sourced clone of pro-tip (worldwide open source online tipping platform) might be better for now since ATMS would be a huge challenge, and BTC has plenty of growth already in that area. We can wait for a better timing and maybe a cool open source atm project to come out in the meantime.

Even better would be an App that locates other Dash/BTC user around you that you can trade with and then later rate them.

Be careful what you ask for:

"In addition to measuring your ability to pay, as in the United States, the scores serve as a measure of political compliance. Among the things that will hurt a citizen’s score are posting political opinions without prior permission, or posting information that the regime does not like, such as about the Tiananmen Square massacre ...It will hurt your score not only if you do these things, but if any of your friends do them.”

Where do you draw the line with an anonymous "digital cash"?
