DASH WORLD update #4: Articles

Unless we provide our audiences with substantial, valuable content that has a clear message we’d be wasting time and money. hobbskevin director at Vanbex put it succinctly: “just putting out press with no substance or goal will do Dash no good,” so our approach is to create valuable, “shareable” content that gains traction over time.

For that purpose ericsammons has written a wonderful first article “The Future of Money” with support and quote(s) from eduffield. They are working on the 2nd article and the separate work on Masternode piece is underway. (see this thread) After we publish these we want to move into educational pieces and than more investment pieces and so on.

We understand the community’s concerns best visible in a private message I received: “we need press, period, if we have none, nothing gets out, so better "bad" (or whatever you wanna call it) than none.” Just to spam the airwaves with crap will only make Dash look like a scam. This is about quality and getting the information out to the right audience.

I hate beating on the dead horse but I think the Masternode owners and the community need to understand this approach better. For the best example of “press with no substance or goal” we do not have to look further than to the "Dash Media Coverage Report - Jan 2016," where the column "H" titled "ApproximateAd Equivalency" states the said "equivalency" being valued at $97,857.98 which would’ve been a wonderful news if it were true:

-- CPM or Ad Rate was set at $16.00 per a thousand views and therefore had:
-- $16,000.00 as “Ad Equivalency” for one particular article (line #11, CoinTelegraph);
-- the article in question @ http://cointelegraph.com/news/dash-...to-bitcoin-offered-by-the-lamassu-atm-project tells us the article had 474 views;
-- 474 views x $16.00 CPM : 1,000 = $7.58 as REAL VALUE of the ad equivalent. The report exaggerated the estimated value of their work for $15,992.42 or 1,212.80% - one thousand and two hundred times. And than some more.

We had, out of ALL articles listed in that report, 377 hits to the official Dash website. The article I quoted above brought 94 visits. That's the real value of the total “approximate ad equivalency” sold to us.

Such meaningless publishing for the sake of publishing is not a route Dash World wants to take.

I feel that the marketing of Dash is in good hands here. You being a member of Dash Nation inspires confidence that you will do and make Vanbex do their best.

If anyone would like to write some content or has idea, just send them to GreyGhost . He is really receptive to ideas and can incorporate in the master Dash World - of course with some Dash Nation flair for TaoOfSatoshi. elishagh1 also is looking for good articles for the www.dashpaymagazine.com site and you might even get some Dash for doing it.

Hit these guys up, this is a community effort and a good chance to get noticed.

The Dash World's 1st article is published @ http://bravenewcoin.com/news/dash-the-anonymous-evolution-of-bitcoin/

My thanks to ericsammons who did such a great work, eduffield whose comments gave the piece a nice personal flair and to hobbskevin who coordinated the work, from the idea to publishing the article.

Cool!

Just for those who want to read the full (source) version:

It's one of the best article about Dash I've ever read! Thanks ericsammons!

alex-ru I agree. ericsammons is a treasure. But let us not forget how quickly The Vanbex guys embraced the Dash World's philosophy. While they have their own, very competent writers, as soon as I suggested approaching Eric and engage his talents for us, they we're game.

Excellent point. Depending on results, I think they should represent us for a long, long time. Great people.

Hi @GreyGhost ,
I would like to share some feedback about the project from my PM perspective - a friendly advise of PM to PM after the first month of the project duration (not judgement of the project course).

I was MIA for almost two weeks because of some family issues. When I was finally back, I was wondering what is the project status and it was difficult to quickly check that because:
  • information is located in multiple places (every step is described in a separate thread)
  • information about the status is mixed with many side-notes and suggestions
Because of the above, it is difficult to find a connection between project goals and current project outcomes (however it is not impossible - it just takes a lot of time for the person not involved in project activities). I would like to suggest the following:
  • report the status in a single place
  • make reports more synthetic (some community members pointed that extensive reporting is not necessary-we need to find a good balance then)
From the delivery perspective, it looks like the SEO part is done as defined in the project proposal/charter but the marketing part needs improvements. I would pay more attention to Vanabex deliverables - they did not delivered outcomes defined for the first month (or I was not able to find this information). They are absorbing majority of your budget and as an external vendor should deliver what was promised and on time. I would have a closer look at this part.

Cheers and good luck with the project!

Hi @kot - thanks for this. Just briefly -- that wrist pain still makes my typing a tad too painful -- I was updating in different threads on various avenues Dash World is taking so to gauge reactions on a wider scope, get ideas, critique, opinions et.al. A consolidated monthly report is coming in due time, after a month has passed :)

@lisacheng of The Vanbex will, I hope today due to time differences (she's in Vancouver), reply to yours @fernando comments in another thread.

Hello @kot thanks for the feedback, for Month 1 we completed the Marketing Audit and our articles were published in Cointelegraph, Brave New Coin, Bitcoinist:
1) http://cointelegraph.com/news/dash-aims-to-surpass-bitcoin-and-become-the-future-of-money
2) http://bravenewcoin.com/news/dash-the-anonymous-evolution-of-bitcoin/
3) http://bitcoinist.net/origin-dash-future/
This is not including the article for this week about InstantX which we are reviewing the final draft today from Eric Sammons.

As for deliverables, Dash is on our Appetizer Plan (the smallest plan) that Vanbex offers which is 3 - 4 media blasts per month.
Note that we are retained from the 6th of every month.

Just because I've been so busy, what are Vanbex plans for Dash if you don't mind me asking? I might have missed such posts elsewhere but I am pretty curious as to the focus of the efforts.

Hey @TheDashGuy so we approach projects like this:
Build the Foundation
Month 1: Marketing Audit, Origin story, Explainer story, Tech Story
Gaining Momentum
Month 2: Cross Marketing Efforts with Partners, Cryptocurrency comparisons, Industry use cases
Solidifying Market Position
Month 3: Community Achievements story, Proving use case story, Dash technology is the future story

(This is the general outline for story development we follow, some items may change around)

Thanks for the update @lisacheng - really appreciated. I was assuming that month is a calendar month (I am not aware of the details of your contract with Roman).
Maybe one more suggestion - please do not publish all articles in just a few days in row. A month of silence and all the articles published in one week have almost zero impact.
Good luck with further development of the project!

@kot happy to discuss and clarify, it was 1 article picked up by multiple media outlets that was edited to each of their audiences. I appreciate the feedback, we do try to space out announcements as much as possible. We needed the first 2 weeks to talk to Eric Sammons, interview Evan Duffield, do research, read white papers, write the Marketing Audit. Not 1 month of silence - just 2 weeks :)

@lisacheng @kot @GreyGhost

I think the issue may be that all of the CT articles were not produced by Vanbex. Joel Valenzuela is a writer for CoinTelegraph that I invited to Slack to discuss a plan for establishing a Dash point of sale presence in Free State NH. He then began writing articles on his own (with the help of @moocowmoo). Here is another example of how a "Dash Nation" one team approach would work better. Just sayin" ;):D
