Dash Documentary Update Thread!

Hi Guys


Apologies for the lack of updates on here, we have been hard at work editing the mass amounts of footage that we have gathered over the course of this production.

Editing the documentary is proving to be one of our largest undertakings, and due to the scope of the project it has put us a little bit behind schedule. So far we have managed to categorize all the footage and are wrapping up the trailer and structure for the first edit of the piece.


We also still have one last piece to shoot, without spoiling too much we have a character who is going to be interacting with a local business to us setting up cryptocurrency payments for their local business, as well as one final trip to Berlin to wrap up a few stories over there. Our journey throughout the crypto & blockchain world has been incredible thus far. Especially seeing what impact DASH has had in Portsmouth New Hampshire, it really shows what the technology is capable of, we hope to make this a centre timeline for the documentary.


The fall in the price of Dash has affected the production pretty heavily along the way, which is why we have cut back to just one editor and the director working on getting it all pieced together. We have also cut down our admin team to just the producer, and production work has been spread across the team or three. We are all working flat-out to make this production a reality. We have just enough funds to get us to the end of the production, with not a huge amount left for the advertising and distribution, but we hope to make it work.


Although we have cashed out the majority of the funds we still have some stored in Dash in the hope it goes back up, but this month by month relative fiat fund decline has not been great, which I’m sure you can all empathise with.

We are currently in discussions with two large scale streaming sites which both seem promising, but until we have finalised the trailer and the last few bits of footage, we won’t know which distribution would be fully interested in our documentary, but as it stands at the moment, we’re staying positive.

P.S. Since another documentary called beyond bitcoin has just sold to a blockchain streaming company from Cannes film festival we are in the process of changing the name of the production, this has caused some strains on the finances due to the branding. We are still considering new names so any suggestions are welcome.

I'm sorry, but this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

According to your own proposal from early November last year where Dash was at around $275 you've calculated these costs:

According to DashWatch's research you received an amount close to 600,000 USD due to Dash's massive price appreciation. What happened to all that money?

The price decline you're citing didn't happen during the 6 months you received payouts. At the day of your final payout Dash sat at a price of $486 and thus well above your calculation basis of $275.

In fact during the entire time your proposal was paid out you received much more money than originally agreed upon and the Dash price did not ONCE drop back to $275 in that period.

Seriously: How can you be low on money?

Look at dashwatch , and examine how many projects were delayed having as excuse the fall of price of dash.

The dashdocumentary is not the only case. Some statistics are needed in order to reveal whether dashdocumentary is the worst case, or there are some projects that are even worst.

This is a job of dashwatch of course, but as long as dashwatch do not want or cannot expose these proposals and rank their delay depending on dash price fluctuation by using numbers (and not words) someone else should do it.

You started a gòod job here with dashdocumentary, why dont you extend it for all prooosals?

I think Macrochip has misunderstood our update. We have tried to remain completely transparent throughout this entire process, with regular budget posts, regular contact with Dash Watch, full updates on our movements through social media and a weekly breakdown of our progress on LinkedIn.

Allow us to elaborate on what we meant by ‘affected the production heavily’. As we explained during our proposal process back in November, if the price of Dash continued to grow, as it did crossing from 2017 to 2018, we would recalculate our expenditure to cater for the additional funds. Which would result in a better and higher produced documentary, allowing us full freedom to shoot anything that we felt would improve the story and overall piece.

We think we may be guilty to say that we didn’t cash out as much as we should have over the months that followed January, which we put down to genuine lack of experience working in crypto-trading, and perhaps a bit of getting lost in the hype.

Some of our additional expenditure allowed us to expand the production to a team of 6 full-time team members, who covered everything from contacting interviewees, to filming, editing and handling all aspects of what effectively has been a small company running in central Bristol. Additional freelancers have been absolutely paramount thus far, and most of the expenditure has been put on wages, travel, equipment, rent, stock footage, music and software.

One thing we want to make clear, is that every penny of the money we have been given by Dash has gone towards the creation of this documentary. We are hugely grateful to the Dash community and the masternodes for entrusting us with this project and allowing us the freedom to spend the funds making this how we envisioned it. Another thing to clarify is that we still have enough money left to finish this documentary and fulfill everything that we promised in our proposal. Please note that at no point do we intend to ask for additional funds to finish this production. We will deliver on what we promised for the budget that we have been allocated.

We have pushed the documentary back by three months, aiming for completion in October, which is something we hadn’t budgeted for. We have been sensible enough to keep some funds aside to keep us afloat until it’s completion. We still have to pay for Animation, colour grading, sound refining and this final trip to Berlin, which we believe is the last thing we have to shoot.

Apologies that our update seemed rather negative, and if we implied that we had done anything behind the Dash Community’s backs. That post was written to highlight these main points:

  1. To make people aware that even though we are running behind, things are still moving forward and we haven’t disappeared.

  2. That our team size has been reduced so that we can put the remaining funds towards marketing, although potentially not to the same scope that we had planned in the last few months. Most of our staff were paramount in the production process, but now that we are moving towards post-production, those roles are less needed. For the most part, it’s a natural stage of production. In no way does this mean that we are going to deliver an “inferior” product, it will be far superior to what we originally proposed.

  3. We are still working on finalising a distribution deal, although we are confident about how it is going. We have made this the second highest priority, after finalising the documentary itself.

Although this is still the same production, the documentary’s scale has been so much bigger and better than our original proposal, and we have had access to some of the best events and minds in the space, and we know that this is something that the community will be proud to have funded.

Another thing to quickly make clear, this production has not been delayed by the fact that the crypto markets have declined, it has been delayed due to the project’s size and content that we have gathered. We couldn’t have anticipated quite how much footage we would get.

Please bear with us over the next few months to finish the documentary. We will not let the community down.

I'm certainly not going to defend people defrauding the system, but from everything I've seen, I believe there was no ill-intent. Not least, that no further funds was being sought, only to provide an update. Perhaps communications could of been better, but in the grand scheme of things, I am quite happy to wait to see this documentary. We know work has been done, it's just a question of how good it turns out. So let's just see what is delivered, you never know, it might actually be quite good.

Ok, except you just admitted to speculating on the price of dash with some of that money, which is not "going toward the creation of this documentary".

In fact, you lost hundreds of thousands of dollars speculating on dash.

Macro, would you consider deleting your Reddit post as it looks a bit like speculation as fact?
 
Dash team in Venezuela are really doing well...Dash documentary need to get to them and get some interesting stuff for the community. Africans do things like Venezuela people so after which Ghana, West Africa is next.
