Greetings all

I've launched the domain http://darksend.it. I intend to share the domain with everyone, so read on.
This page is looking to be a shorturl of sorts for darkcoin addresses. It has support for command line browsers, stripping html for wget|curl.
examples:
http://darksend.it/dime
http://darksend.it/yournamehere

from the command line:
$ curl darksend.it/dime
XcWPrhrtpJtBowmT3FfebLWDUZQPUZ73tz

I intend to give the domain to the community in the following ways:
1. (this one's just self promotion) The web server is hand written and as I think of more things that can help build the community, I will use my time to build them.
2. Once there are over 1000 users, I will throw the dns over to afraid.org, which has a long history giving free dynamic domain hosting services. This means you'll be able to point you.darksend.it to your webserver, or your computer, etc.
3. Anyone who donated (undetermined) drk during their registration will be given an account on an IRC bouncer running on the root domain itself. So you can irc as [email protected].

3 can backfire so it's not a guarantee, just a best effort type scenario. Allowing people to irc with your domain is asking for a ddos and coming back for more. But if it works out, this would be awesome.

Greetings all

I'm looking to build a small community with a very basic function. To this end, I've registered the domain http://darksend.it. I intend to share the domain with everyone, so read on.

The function is to be a shorturl of sorts for darkcoin addresses. Registration costs .1 drk, and if darkcoin ever reaches USD $10, $100, the price will change to .01, and .001. The target is a dime.
example: http://darksend.it/dime http://darksend.it/newuser

I intend to give the domain "back" to the community in the following ways:
1. (this one's just self promotion) The web server is hand written and as I think of more things for the community, I will use my time to build them.
2. Once there are over 1000 users, I will throw the dns over to afraid.org, which has a long history giving free dynamic domain hosting services. This means you'll be able to point you.darksend.it to your webserver, or your computer, etc.
3. Anyone who contributed over 10 (this may lower) drk during their registration will be given an account on an IRC bouncer running on the root domain itself. So you can irc as [email protected]. This isn't automated yet but I'll likely work on it soon.

#3 can backfire so it's not a guarantee, just a best effort type scenario. Allowing people to irc with your domain is asking for a ddos and coming back for more. But if it works out, this would be awesome.

If you have any ideas for what the site can become, feel free to hit me up (drkdime) in the official darkcoin irc channel on freenode, but keep in mind I prefer text to the over marketization the internet has become.
I'm looking to build minimalist but useful services, not be another fanboy cheerleader site.

The only problem I see is you are putting your address in control of a third party. The third party could just put their own address on your profile and get all the DRK that people meant to send to you.

This is true. It's a matter of trust, which may seem ironic when the common thread is a coin that is attempting to create a trustless anonymizing solution to bitcoin's public ledger. At the same time though, it's similiar to the amount of trust you have to put into other "pillars" of the community, including forums where admins can also change your signature where you may put your address, etc. So instead, it's a matter of reputation.

As people trust their registrations and use it more, the trust will build. When there are 1000 users and I put the domain available for people to freely use 3rd level domains, the trust will build.

Here is my accounting of trust.

For new users, I'm asking for $0.072 of trust, which is returned to you by providing an easily remembered place to store your darkcoin address. Of course, you could always check it before you gave it out. If I were to do anything fishy, all the trust would be gone in an instant and people would instantly stop using it. It would be a rather stupid exercise to waste my time coding a webserver instead of using whatever free shit I could find if this was my purpose.

Assuming a stable price (which darkcoin has shown itself to be), I would have made all of $72 by the time I got 1000 users. At this point, I could do the nefarious thing and run away with my $72 that I so deservedly earned. Or I could put this $72 where my mouth is and then put the dns of the server over to afraid.org and allow everyone to register subdomains of it for free and use it to build whatever they want.

afraid.org is a free dynamic domain name service... once the domain is set up there, anyone with an account there can register subdomains from darksend.it.

for example, you can have propulsion.darksend.it point to whatever ip you want, including your own ip address of your computer or to a webserver so http://propulsion.darksend.it would be under your control

I just tried and the site didn't work.
I saw that.
x.x.x.x - - [24/Mar/2014:00:14:36] "GET /?register HTTP/1.1" 200 1125 "http://darksend.it/Lzeppelin" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/33.0.1750.154 Safari/537.36"
registration attempt: {'addr': u'', 'user': u'', 'txid': u''}

Was that you? Nothing went through.

Can you try again?

While checking it, I inadvertently put you in. But it did work for me... Let me know if you want me to change anything with your signup.
registration attempt: {'addr': u'XeY2ZTyHUhD9oesZ4DJ8EFdGZC2TWPkToS', 'user': u'Lzeppelin', 'txid': u'912a2beb0198d889286b29a79ed07b8620456237f87a2d8b479cd0d9b7033ecb'}
You can see it updated now with http://darksend.it/Lzeppelin

Let me know if you want to change this.. In the meantime, if you can, try putting in another registration with:
txid: 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 (64 0's)
user: whatever
addr: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (34 X's)

And let me know if it doesn't work?

I've tested with both Chrome and Firefox on linux and it works fine for me.. and some others as well.

darksend.it now strips html for command line browsers..

$ curl darksend.it/dime
XcWPrhrtpJtBowmT3FfebLWDUZQPUZ73tz

Oh I think I was doing it wrong I thought it automatically filled it out, no wonder it didn't work I left without filling anything out lol. Also that stripping for curl is a great feature, keep up the good work!

edit just tried:
invalid txid: 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

It seems you only copy pasted 63 0's.
Your attempt followed by mine right after it that did go through.
registration attempt: {'addr': u'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX', 'user': u'bobosmittypants', 'txid': u' 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000'}
registration attempt: {'addr': u'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX', 'user': u'bobosmittypants', 'txid': u'0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000'}

It will allow you to register with 64 0's but then it won't finish because of invalid txid.

Hey all

I've allowed free registrations on this site now. Many thanks to those who supported it!

darksend.it now includes support for QR codes in the terminal. I'm too busy (or lazy) to implement this into the webpage, so for now, it's something the command line people get first.
