Bitcoin Fees Reach $8 Post Segwit Activation

Segwit has been activated on the main Bitcoin chain, which still experiences record high fees and confirmation times, as well as confusion surrounding the upgrade.

Since the upgrade, which was marketed as an upgrade to scaling capacity (though more of a gateway to future off-chain scaling solutions), transaction fees have grown to record levels, as noted by Segwit2x lead developer Jeff Garzik:

Bitcoin has essentially abandoned the use case as digital cash, with easy, fast, inexpensive transactions to help the masses.

They are handing us that use case on a silver platter.

I accept their offer and intend to run with it. Later on, they can regret that if they want.

Bitcoin cash is having a go at that use case, but still do not have our enhanced governance, or funds for development and marketing straight from their mining efforts, still a one layer blockchain that is subject to getting clogged and slow once the blocks fill up, still don't have a research center dedicated to scaling issues, still don't have a hardware think tank like Evan is setting up in Hong Kong.

Other than that, Bitcoin Cash might give us a run for the money in the long term.

And digibyte has ever growing block sizes baked in. Makes me wonder what would happen if they introduced masternodes...
