Summary
CoinText proposes to deploy its SMS service for DASH in 20 languages to 40 nations with nearly 2 billion people with free transactions, full customer support, a merchant solution, and a faucet to drive adoption. This proposal would enable DASH users to instantly text DASH to any mobile phone in 40 countries without Internet.

Our aim with this proposal is to provide the existing DASH community with a simple way to transact peer-to-peer and a powerful tool to spread adoption.

Product Description

CoinText is a full-featured DASH wallet that enables you to instantly send DASH to any mobile phone number or DASH address without Internet using SMS commands.

CoinText doesn’t require apps, accounts, or passphrases, and it works on any text-enabled device - including all brands and even old feature phones. Recipients don’t need to take any action to receive DASH and funds are immediately available to be re-spent.

You control your DASH CoinText wallet with your phone’s native SMS app with simple text commands like RECEIVE to display your wallet address; BALANCE to check your wallet’s balance; and HELP to review commands.

With CoinText you’re able to send DASH directly to domestic or foreign mobile phone numbers by texting the commands:

SEND $1 PHONENUMBER, or
SEND .01 DASH PHONENUMBER

You instantly create new DASH users by texting DASH to their phone.

When you send DASH to a phone number, the recipient doesn’t need to take any action and the funds are immediately available to be re-spent.

CoinText’s DASH wallet is already fully functional in the United States and Canada.

Merchant Solution
CoinText’s merchant solution turns any phone into a merchant and enables paying invoices via SMS. Here is a video of a customer buying a pastry over SMS using our BCH wallet. Our merchant solution for DASH has already been integrated with BitPay, Anypay and Spark (formerly DashPay). You can use CoinText to pay for gift cards on eGifter with DASH. This proposal will enable us to integrate our DASH merchant solution.

Free Transactions
CoinText will not collect a fee on DASH transactions. The proposal includes $2,500/DASH to cover costs of SMS gateways and 25,000 free transactions. DASH users only pay a small mining fee of less than a penny.

Adoption Faucet
This proposal will fund a $2,500/DASH faucet to spur adoption. New users may tap the faucet to receive $.50/DASH directly to their CoinText DASH wallet. The faucet is programmed so only genuine mobile phones may tap it once. The faucet will attract 5000 new users to DASH, and the community may add to it at any time.

There are hard costs involved. We must acquire, deploy, and maintain different SMS gateway numbers for DASH.

In addition to SMS charges, access numbers in most countries require a set up fee and a monthly fee.

This network would cost the Dash community significantly more if we hadn't laid the ground work with BCH first.

No. We use several tier-1 SMS gateway providers in order to connect directly to 40 local networks. We route between them in the background. This is important to keep SMS communication affordable for users and deliver the correct default language and fiat currency conversion to the region.

Each number has a cost to set up and maintain.

Correct. We do not plan to do another Dash proposal unless there's a huge benefit to the community. Eventually fees will sustain the SMS network.

Stick with it, Dash Nexus is relatively new but worth it. You might also want to discuss this on reddit and discord, dash users are quite widely spread. Getting on Dash News is another option, though tell them you're short for time, they can ramble on a bit! :-D

Historically, I'm not a big fan of these text wallets but I can see others are finding value in it. For that reason, I am likely to vote Yes for this. Btw, I quite like that country list, well chosen.

The problem with multi-cycle funding is that MNOs can sometimes be fickle and de-fund, seemingly without rhyme and reason. You have to use the various arms of social media to stay in the minds of MNOs i.e. consistently demonstrate progress without making it look spammy. Personally, for this amount, I would vote the entire amount, get it over and done with, but obviously others may think otherwise.
