Pre-Proposal: Hurricane Harvey Relief powered by DASH

LeagueDad

New member
I live in the Houston Area which has been seriously affected by Hurricane Harvey!

My goal for this proposal is to get DASH involved in the relief of SE Texas! Helping at least 1000 people!

If you have seen any news lately you've probably witnessed the destruction that Harvey has dished out.

I think that DASH can make a big difference in people's lives and there is so much that DASH has to offer!

Nothing sticks in people's minds like a helping hand in need.

My vision is that I talk to my neighbor who I am good friends with and owns a school bus that has been refurbished into a mobile home, to help me distribute food, water, diapers, and formula to all those affected by Harvey. If for some reason he turns this down, (which I HIGHLY doubt) I would then either rent a truck or find another volunteer with a large truck.

I'm very excited about the future of DASH as a whole and have been talking about it non-stop with everyone I come into contact with.

My wife and four kids were relatively unaffected by the storm, besides being stuck in our home for 4 days due to the flooding. The biggest issues we had was the gas going out for 4 days so far (so no hot water for us, I've been boiling water on the stove for hot baths, it takes a lot of time with 4 kids lol)(expecting another 8 days according to the local gas company) and our van getting stuck in our own front yard.

Currently, there are many places that are majorly flooded still and have little to no supplies.

I am appealing to the better nature of the DASH community to help me with this out reach. To bring hope and help to those that have lost everything.

My proposal is currently set for 200.75 DASH to be used ENTIRELY for supplies and transport to affected areas. (this includes the 5 DASH reimbursement)

Here is a breakdown of the supplies (cost and quantity for distribution of 1000 people in need)

1) Travel expenses: (including but not limited to)

Not voting for any of these disaster proposals. I want dash to be a positive force in science, not picking up the pieces after disasters.

@GrandMasterDash I understand your view point but you should also consider that disasters happen to everyone and being a force for good isn't one man's specific job. It's a collaboration effort of people for the collective good.

I'm not against helping people, I just don't want it via the proposal system. Perhaps you could publish a dash address and see what help you get.

@GrandMasterDash I believe it's a great way to put DASH I'm a positive light from a community stand point while also allowing for a very memorable experience for anyone who is helped and anyone who witnesses it. DASH will be at the forefront of their minds for quite sometime as a community of people that didn't have to help them but chose to. And that's why it's powerful. The address/donation idea is fine and all but it's an ineffective method towards promoting DASH I'm combination with helping people. Not only does it make it more difficult to help people because funds are not predetermined, but it's also unreliable and can't be depended on to make a lasting impression.

Also the fact that it comes from the treasury is a much bigger deal than from individuals throwing money at it. From the treasury shows DASH's unified front of wanting to help and it's Good Will to man kind and humanities future. Not just DASH's even though it serves both purposes simultaneously

A positive light.. provided you're American. How about the next disaster.. maybe an earthquake will hit Iran or North Korea.. shall we also give them money?

Let's just stick to positive scientific achievement than worrying about the now.

A positive light provided I'm a DASH enthusiast who lives in the affected area promoting DASH's ability to not only be innovative in the scientific community but also be helpful in a local community disaster. If there were a catastrophe in any country that a legitimate person wanted to help and do something in the name of DASH we would should consider the proposed help. It's not a matter of location as much as it is a matter of are we willing to do something about it and do we have a community in the area that will benefit from it. In this situation, Houston, Texas is a bright spot of economic growth in the US and is an ample place for growth of any growing community. Not only that but the global appeal of a Cryptocurrency that's community is showing its willingness to respond with help is something special that no other currency outside of specialized currency's can claim. Dash is the closest competition to the generalized power of Bitcoin. Which means it must set itself apart in many ways and yet remain versatile. Why not explore every method possible to create a strong audience and even stronger community.

That's good, you go ahead and do whatever you feel is necessary. In fact, take that 5 dash and give it directly to someone that really needs it.

I'd have to say no, because it's not within the scope of the Treasury's purpose. We spend the 10% of the block reward to increase the value, size, integrity, strength and utility of our network. Maybe one day, well after Evolution is finished and Dash has reached mass adoption we can shift focus on spending money outside of that. Right now it's just a hassle to sift through these what I'll refer to as "offtopic props" and follow up on them to see whether the money actually reached the destination (one of the biggest problems/scams within charities). Solid no from me.

I agree it is difficult to get a resounding yes on a proposal such as this. As is there are many dishonest thieves out there and it's hard to create trust in a trustless system. I do still believe in this type of proposal despite the short comings of it's initial down votes. And if there is a way for me to do this with a release of DASH at the point of sale for more trust without trust. I agree there are many things that DASH has yet to achieve and this type of proposal succeeding is one of the many. I'm happy with the effort I put into the proposal this far and I'd appreciate any pointers to help make this a more viable proposal.

As for this grandmasterdash I think you're temperament has gotten the best of you on this discussion. I was enjoying our back and forth until you jumped off the boat with this comment.

I think this is another case where the purest intentions don't pan out well in reality. I really don't think the Dash network should be picking and choosing which charitable causes to donate to, unless it is part of a broader business reason, like the money from the crypto show sponsorship also going to help Unsung. I totally recommend individual donations though. Why is it not sufficient to just let all dash holders to decide for themselves what charities they want to give to? I would prefer for the treasury to continue to be used for governance, not government.

I see you point. And it gives me an idea, what if their were a website that were linked to different approved charities where any dash member could review the charity and what their asking help for and then donate directly to that charity via DASH? Any thoughts @TroyDASH @Macrochip @Dashmaximalist

@LeagueDad perhaps you missed the link to helperbit.com

Why dash specifically? Why not crypto in general. There are many other cryptos paying dividends.

The reason I wanted dash specifically involved was because of the huge amount of value dash would get from the publicity of the move in Houston which as I stated before is the hotspot of economics in the US. I thought it was a great opportunity to put DASH at the forefront front of Houston's massive market and I wanted DASH specifically because I believe in a lot of what DASH is doing as a Cryptocurrency in general.

Of course after I post the proposal a crypto talk show hosted out of Houston used some proposal money they already got to do something similar to what I suggested and there seemed to be a lot of good attention from it. That being said there is still a big opportunity here for this proposal and I think y'all are over looking the long term benefits for some small easily worked around risks.
