The purpose of the meetup was to discuss and contemplate on measures that can be taken to combat the misuse of cryptocurrencies by criminals. As well as means by which such activity can be tracked more efficiently and ultimately hindered by international financial crime investigators.
Experts from the financial crimes field of over 30 nations came to a consensus that more attention should be placed on the sharing of information between agencies such as the Interpol, Europol, and other pertinent organizations.
An agreement concerning digital cryptocurrency mixers was also reached. The professionals gathered at the Swiss-based meetup came to the conclusion that more effort must be placed upon the monitoring of such crypto mixers and tumblers. Considering that they innately impede anti-money laundering practices and law enforcement agencies, this is a good step in the right direction.
Where are we going with this?
Ideally, organizations and individuals who were present during the meetup will continue on to continuously collaborate on solutions tailored to thwart illegal future events involving cryptocurrencies. Additionally, it should be noted that a recent (3 weeks ago) bill issued by the US Republican House of Representatives proposed the creation of a special task force. Specifically designed to combat terrorism being financed through cryptocurrencies.
