My name is Sky Conway and I am an early Cryptocurrency adopter, supporter and filmmaker.

I wanted to bring this pre-proposal to everyone's attention.

This pre-proposal is to evaluate interest in a sponsorship package for DASH brand placement and other advertising for the upcoming Crypto movie, a feature-length film about Bitcoin and Satoshi.

DASH is the ideal brand to take advantage of the opportunity and will benefit from the large, global technology and sci-fi loving audience we will target (which will be over 200 million). This targeted audience will dovetail well into what DASH offers and we’re excited to bring new users and growth to the ecosystem.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Celebrate Bitcoin’s 10th anniversary with the Global release of the movie Crypto in May 2019

Crypto: The Story of Bitcoin and Satoshi’s Peaceful Revolution to Change the World

Meet the movie Crypto

Crypto is a mystery thriller about Satoshi Nakamoto and the origin of cryptocurrency; a fictionalized story that incorporates true events and real people such as Hal Finney, Nick Szabo and the cypherpunks. Our story will take the audience on a journey from the beginnings of Bitcoin and ending in a utopian future where cryptos have replaced fiat.

The movie Crypto will broaden current awareness and purpose of Bitcoin and Blockchain technologies to include far beyond just Crypto enthusiasts alone (like "nocoiners").

Why should DASH support this project?

The release will be supported by a substantial marketing and PR campaign as detailed in our package below. This opportunity provides broad global organic reach and placement that many top brands in the world only dream about. Additionally, DASH has an unused marketing budget for which it can get the best ratio of advertising dollars for impressions.

DASH will benefit as a sponsor by achieving marketing reach to millions of pre-qualified, high-quality prospects. The DASH brand will be on the frontlines of our new user acquisition plan and will be associated with Crypto.

Title-sponsorship and underwriting are the most efficient way of achieving massive brand density within the cryptocurrency community. There are few if any other marketing vehicles that will be able to achieve as many meaningful impressions for DASH as the movie Crypto.

How can DASH participate in Crypto and benefit from this audience?

We created a sponsorship structure for DASH to participate in this movie to gain organic exposure in a highly impactful manner.

Amount of proposed sponsorship ranges for film request: $250,000 - 500,000+ (See Sponsorship Packages for details)

Production Schedule for the movie Crypto

Below are the logistics for the project and phases which will compose the movie-making process. A significant portion of a movie being made is logistics and this is why we have a rigorous schedule already in motion for producing this feature film.

3 Phases: Pre-production, Filming and Post Production

The scope of the project is the writing, directing and producing of a feature film, requiring a team of professional filmmakers and revenue to support all three phases of its creation: Pre-production, Filming, and Post-production.

Phase 1 Pre-Production: August-December 2018 (Currently in progress)
  • Breaking The Story: (writing an outline with a three-act structure that generates the plot of a feature length film)
  • Writing the Screenplay
  • Casting: All-star cast will be hired (will hire Director of Action and Thriller movies)
  • Hiring Production Team: Camera, Crew, Wardrobe, Make-up, Lighting, Audio and SFX etc)

Phase 2 Filming: Begins January 2019

For our shooting schedule, we have a formula for how long it takes based on the length of the script. We film 6 pages a day of a 90-page script: 90/6 = 15 shooting days minimum.

Shooting will commence on sets and on-location beginning at the end of 2018 and into January 2018. Filming will be wrapped up by the end of January.

Phase 3 Post Production: Begins February 2019

This includes all this editing and post-filming activities to make the film look and feel the part. This will take place up until near the release of the movie to get it just right.

This final and very important phase entails:
  • Editing Raw Footage
  • First “Rough Cut” Assembly
  • Film Score Composed and Mixed
  • Special effects created and added in
  • Final Edit
  • Picture Lock
  • Final Sound Mix
  • Color Timing
  • Final Delivery of Finished film
  • Budget for Advertising Campaign
Risks and Obstacles

Because this movie does not rely on sets or dangerous action scenes the Risk Rating (an industry scale to measure a firm's risk) is considered low.

This means a low chance of liability from actors being injured as well as constraints due to set needs which will limit delays on the schedule.

Milestone reports we will provide to the DASH community

We will provide reports around each of the 3 phases of production. We want to keep the DASH community engaged and excited as this production develops.

The specific reports will include:
  1. A status report that is distributed which includes a copy of our final shooting script at the end of pre-production.
  2. Dailes (raw camera footage with sound) will be uploaded and made available for private viewing, during production.
  3. The first assembly of edited footage (the “rough cut”) will be delivered to the DASH community in post-production (we respectfully ask that you keep this content to yourself).

Audience Demographic and Size - audience upwards of 200 million

The demographics of the core viewer base are “Techies, Trekkies, Geeks and Gamers.” This includes hard core passionate and loyal Star Trek Fans, Technology lovers and gaming enthusiasts. We aim to convert many non-crypto, technology lovers in this demographic into Cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

Our viewership is currently estimated at 10 million+ based on previously released Star Trek spin-offs and original Sci-Fi shows that the Atomic Team has produced.

We will be targeting an audience of 200+ million users (based on Facebook Ads Manager estimates), 43+ million alone from Cryptocurrency and Sci-Fi audiences.

We are estimating an audience size of at least 10 million views within the first month (conservative) and 20 million (or more) in 12 months. This is calculated based on previous Atomic Network produced movies which had a smaller audience base to work with and reached over 3 million views.

Crypto will also be viewed by an overwhelming majority of people in the crypto space per our campaign plan to target influencers and the myriad of Crypto enthusiasts to drive buzz.

Campaign and Movie Premiers in Select Cities

We will have a large push for the movie leading up to the 10th anniversary of Bitcoin in May 2019. We will create a “Grand Opening” style launch not only for Atomic Networks but also the movie Crypto which will be the main focus of our promotional campaign.

This will span across several markets worldwide (more details on this to be released soon).

Success for this campaign would include reaching millions of viewers and impressions. Our estimates include 10 million views in the first month and 20 million views within 12 months, conservatively.

This launch of the movie would act as a catalyst for the crypto-community to come together. In addition, we would bring a largely untapped pool of newcomers who are Sci-Fi and technology enthusiasts that have yet to delve into the Cryptocurrency space.

DASH will be prominently featured in the movie for years to come getting value from the long tail of ever-growing viewers that will discover this movie as an entry point into Cryptocurrency (often as newbies).

What is our vision of success?

The project will be a complete success if we reach 10m views (or more). The buzz expected around Bitcoin at this time will help amplify the message of Crypto and bring Cryptocurrencies into the spotlight. The premiers will act as a campfire to unify communities across the globe in celebration of Bitcoin’s 10th Anniversary.

You can rest assured that the story will remain as accurate as possible and Sky Conway, the film’s producer has been in touch with various Cypherpunks and related parties (like Phil Zimmerman and Hal Finney’s family).

This film aims to touch the hearts of not only Techies but the public as a whole worldwide.

We look forward to having you, the DASH community, along for the journey.

Let me know your thoughts, question and concerns.

Hi Sky, interesting project. I'd highlight that the 'unused marketing budget' you mentioned is being used elsewhere now.

I think at the moment, you'd struggle to get funding at those amounts as the focus in general is on funding and building buffers for Core as well as supporting current critical projects and those already generating returns. What sort of time-frame do you have to raise sponsorship?

@Sky Conway -- Thank you for your pre-proposal. This seems like an interesting project, and certainly a story that deserves to be told, no matter how you feel about the topic. Having some friends in the film business, I know just how much work and effort and funding it takes to produce a high quality product, so while what you're seeking in terms of funding may seem steep to many, unfortunately that's simply how these projects run, and yours is fairly modest as productions of this magnitude go, all things considered. Most people barely know that Bitcoin exists except in passing, so this is a great opportunity to expand people's awareness and knowledge of distributed public ledger technology and its implications, and the benefits to Dash in this regard are clear. I'm personally curious though how much of a film you can really scrape together without taking significant liberties with artistic license, given the pseudonymous nature of Satoshi Nakamoto and the development of Bitcoin?

Over the past year or so, especially toward the end of 2017 and beginning of 2018, Dash has sponsored a number of other marketing-based initiatives to the tune of millions of dollars and not really seen much of a return in terms of network effects or other tangible benefits. This, coupled with the market-wide price decline has hampered our treasury's ability to fund a lot of projects without any direct benefit to the network, and much of our existing budget is occupied with funding our Core Development team as we move toward the launch of our upcoming products. So given that state of affairs, it's unlikely most of us would be willing to fund such a project both in relevance to our current goals, as well as the current limitations of our treasury.

I do wish your project success and will look forward to watching it when it's complete. Perhaps in the event of a market upturn toward the end of the year we may have more funds to devote to indirect marketing opportunities such as this, but for now it's in our best interest to stick to funding essential and ongoing initiatives.

Hi @AshFrancis Thanks for your comment and update on the marketing budget. Ideally we would want to receive funds in 4-5 months, however, we are open to negotiation in terms of time frame.

What do you think would be realistic amount that DASH would be willing to sponsor and in what time frame?

Don't worry Craig Wright won't be in it. ;)

All joking aside, thanks for your thoughtful post and encouragement @Arthyron. We appreciate that you understand the costs and efforts behind film-making as well as your forthrightness about the goals of DASH and the state of the Treasury.

Regarding your points about taking creative license, every feature film has a creative license taken by the creators. We take this role seriously and see the Cypherpunks as the originators (of Bitcoin) and the true stars of this story along with their enthusiasm to change the world.

To be frank, Hollywood would not approve a movie like this based on the freedom and anarchist type ideas which would be too radical for the studios. If you look at Hollywood's approach, like the upcoming Kurt Russell Crypto movie, they are going for a much more negative (e.g. money laundering) angle. We have the opportunity to make a splash in a unique way in a large public forum.

On a more concrete level, Phil Zimmerman is helping consult on this project and will be reviewing the script. In addition, Fran Finney (Hal's wife) is also reading the script and providing feedback. We want to do this right.

As far as the goals of DASH, we just wanted to re-highlight some of the audience sized targeted for the movie. We are conservatively estimating our viewership at 10 million views within the first month and 20 million within 12 months. (Even at a fraction of this projection, you can imagine the potential of how many millions of impressions could be reached)

We will be targeting an audience of 200+ million users (based on Facebook Ads Manager estimates of the US), 43+ million alone from Cryptocurrency and Sci-Fi audiences.

While we can't control the market or price of DASH, what we can control is the targetted reach and strategy behind the movie's promotion. Therefore, we would love to see DASH be a key brand in this initiative.

If we could demonstrate that we would reach a bigger audience (particularly new technology-focused people who haven't been converted into Cryptocurrency), would this increase the value of this offer for DASH?

Other than that, were there any other concerns you had regarding the movie and proposal?

Either way, thanks again for your time and consideration.

It's often said here that "a rising tide lifts all boats," but despite the massive amount of our treasury we've spent on marketing relative to other projects in this space, we've seen little comparative ROI, even in terms of network effects. Marketing has seemed to be our least effective means of furthering our cause, so I don't think it's really contingent on what you could do better, but moreso with the way that Dash is perceived generally, and how we have to prioritize our budget accordingly. We've been known to support projects that don't directly benefit us but do benefit the industry as a whole when we've been able, though, so I'd say it's really just an issue of the movement of the market and timing whether we'd be able to monetarily support a project like this or not.
