I think it's a bubble. Some news and the day traders jump in since they see action. This pushes the price up. It's seen a 100% rise over the last 3 days so I think it'll die down and settle at a new low but higher than 3 days ago. Maybe £1.60

Darkcoin is actually very stable, it has less price fluctuations than BTC and LTC.
Considering the fact that it has by far the lowest market capitalization of those 3 that's pretty good:

It would be trivial to port this to Darkcoin because there's no Bitcoin specific code at all, but...

...they get the value history for their calculations from a site which hosts those for Bitcoin, but I didn't found a site where the same history data is hosted for Darkcoin.

That was actually the reason why I started to get and persist my own stats 5 weeks ago, so I have Darkcoins history at least from November on.
