I want to detach a terrible idea from it's promoter so as to expose the reality and facts about it, instead of the personal attacks and general refusal to get educated.
A DASH Masternode is not a BitClone "full node." There is no comparison. Not only does a DASH Masternode provide way more services to the network (Privacy and IX), it is capable of even more than that. So, even if we strip that all away, the fact that Masternodes tend to be hosted in Datacenters, are dynamically expandable VPSes with simple slice management, generally have access to native IPv6, uptime, maintenance, hardware, bandwidth, etc. The list goes on and on.
At the most pessimistic, one can easily say that a single DASH Masternode provides 20x more functionality to it's network than a BitClone "full node" manages to provide to it's network.
So, when it comes to actual benefit provided, 3400 masternodes serves the DASH network at the equivalent capacity of 68,000 BitClone "full nodes" would.
If you disagree, you need to get an education on what DASH is and how it works. You're only exposing your cluelessness by arguing about it. This is a very pessimistic estimate.
Hardware. Far less flexible than a VPS. Hosted on a skinny data pipe. Costs way more both up-front and in monthly fees from your ISP for static IPs. Come Evolution and further, adoption, there is absolutely no way a Raspberry Pi 2 will be capable of running a solo node. Even a much more powerful machine such as an ODROID-XU4 is questionable. Running a hardware Masternode on a home network is cute, fun thing to do, but it is by no means serving the network well, or even financially sane. It's a way to force yourself to learn most stuff and become a better Masternode Operator. But whne it's all said and done, a VPS is waayyy better for the network and the bottom line.
To say it another way... A person who is accustomed to the realities of the BitClone environment Realizes that a "full node," actually helps such a rickety, ad-hoc mess as BitClone networks are. DASH is way, way, ways beyond that. A hardware "full node" is actually a major handicap to DASH. Promoting a major handicap is sabotage.
Easy of use. The ultimate function of a Masternode is it's operators ability to read proposals and then vote. Yes. Without Masternodes, there would be no privacy and no IX. this is critical. The vote is even more critical. It is essential that Masternode Operators not be fucking morons. Especially when it only takes 10% approval to money hose a project. It's easy for 10% of any demographic to be stupid as shit. We can clearly see how easy it would be to take advantage of that, and it is being taken advantage of...
If you went to the bank with a plan to start a business building concrete airplanes, how likely would you be to get approval for a startup loan? No one would give you that loan because it's a terrible idea. There's no way you're ever going to pay it back. That's money flushed down the toilet. Now, what if that same person came to DASH and wanted FREE MONEY HE NEVER HAS TO PAY BACK for an even worse idea? A grant, essentially.
How is it DASH's responsibility to bankroll a really bad business startup? Even under the guise of "it's for DASH's benefit!" A separate business cocnept that isn't core to DASH, that DASH doesn't even need, and which might actually hurt DASH, should never in a bajillion years even be considered. DASH isn't crowdfunding for pork barrel welfare. An "idea" that allows the dumbing-down of Masternodes even further only assures a locked in 10% guaranteed to keep upvoting bad ideas. It's clueless welfare losers voting for free stuff.
And people know it. They're going to try to take advantage of DASH. They already are. No matter how many smiles and "I swear I'm benevolent!" they say, it's a scam. Sometimes it may simply be honest ignorance from people who really do not understand how DASH works, trying to provide a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.... Or deliberately trying to get that 10% of dumb people to fall for their pitch and give them a bunch of free money.
Masternode operators have an obligation to not have their heads up their asses. And they REALLY have an obligation not to lower the bar to Masternode operation any lower.
I ranted up a storm about how horrible it would be if Guides were not done away with. I was wrong about that. People were forced to learn, if even a little bit. They became (marginally) competent. But a device that just plugs in, well, that affords a vote to pretty much any moron, while bringing down the functionality of Masternodes to the point that they're not much better than a so-called "full node" on any BitClone network. Not to mention the many other problems. Bandwidth/latency alone will likely result in being kicked for PoService failure... But what recourse will you have for getting your money back? It's worse than ASICs being delivered too late.
Why even get hardware involved at all when every aspect of doing so is a negative compared to what we're already doing?
We've been obsessing over making DASH "un-nerd" and "grandma friendly." Supposedly this will drive adoption.
DASH is already just as easy to use as BitClones. Where's the adoption?
Even with it's advanced functionality, DASH is no better than BitCoin because there's no where to spend it. BitCoin has already saturated the markets it's actually useful for. DASHis failing adoption not because it needs to be more polished, but because it isn't trying to do anything new and different. It was buoilt to fill the holes that BitClones cannot, yet we're not even making one tiny effort.
Obsessing over the irrelevant to the point that we begin exploring terrible ideas just because they're familiar, or are similar to a problem that exists in BitCloines (but not in DASH) will not help DASH.
I have already volunteered, with the prodding and partnership of another DASH community member, to go down the road DASH needs someone to go down. We need to make it easier to ACCEPT DASH.
No matter how "easy to use" a thing is, it won't be used if it's pointless. We need to stop polishing things that are already shiny, and go create a means by which IX can actually do what it is meant to do!
I know that I am not the man for this job. That is why I am not presenting a proposal. But, nobody is doing it. So, I'm stepping up. I will do what I know how to do, and then when I come to the end of that, I'll just have to step the fuck up and become the right guy for the part that remains of it.
I don't mean to seem like I'm doing it alone, all me. I give credit where credit is due, and if the other party wants to claim association with me, than he can reply to this post. I understand the blight of socialist entitlement and cluelessness that afflicts societies at large, and especially the cryptotard "community." I can understand fully why he may not want to be associated with me given the attitudes of that audience towards people like me.
I'm saying this much about it because I don't want anyone bitching up a storm like they did about the dash.org domain ex-post-facto budget proposal. Be aware that I'm doing this. Be aware that I'm fronting money and time when I'm already running a business 80+ hours a week. Be aware that I know I'm not really the guy for this job, but somebody's gotta do it. I'm probably gonna fuck up. A lot. I may fail completely. You can make fun of me, or you can help out.
When the project is finished, I will not seek "reimbursement." If my partner doesn't like that idea, I'll give him money out of pocket, too. I'm covering this. Because it needs to happen.
Even if I fumble and stumble my way to the finish line, I'm sick of waiting for someone to figure out that polishing what is already shiny isn't going to help DASH. We have to intrude upon the unknown, the things DASH was meant to do that has no precedent because no other Cryptocurrency can do it. We're not going to be able to recruit someone familiar with what has never been done. Nobody is familiar with what has never been done.
I was already halfway down the road when he approached me. We're joining forces, for what good a couple of jokers with determination, persistence, and a few clues can do.
We don't need more Masternodes.
We REALLY don't need to give the clueless a seat on the board of directors.
Hardware Masternodes are a bad idea in every conceivable way, even if you subtract the above. It won't work. The money will just be gone and the person it was given to will laugh all the way to Cryptsy.
We need people to be able to use our shiny, not sit around polishing it more and more. The barrier to entry is already low enough. What we lack is a reason to bother entering...
It's really easy for me to go to New York. But, why the fuck would I want to? Even if it wasn't a horrible cesspool, even if it was exactly the same as where I am now... Why? Where's the motivation? There's no such thing as easy enough to change that, because "easy enough" isn't the problem.
If you can promise Grandma that she'll be 25 again, married to a well-endowed, good-looking billionaire; she might learn how to use console-only NeckBeardCoin. It's a matter of motivation. The bar is already low enough.
Understand?
