So while I rather not post on bitcointalk any more, I still visit it often because you lot are always there and it seems to be more and more infected lately. So I crawled the last three weeks and calculated what percentage of total posts are obvious trolls and divide this by total posts. So we now are officially at 6.83% infections rate.

So we can see that quoting the trolls doubles their effectiveness. I could drill down to who exactly is quoting them, but I'm not trying to single people out. Also mymother seems to have deleted all his posts so these number should be higher.

So the conclusion is that 80-85% of the thread is useful just don't quote the trolls. They rely on people quoting them and GIANT WALLS of test to he heard, perhaps just use one of these images?

It doubles their presence, it doesn't double their effectiveness. Those are not the same thing.

When I was slaughtering trolls, and Xcoin, I mean Darkcoin, I mean whatever, was still complete crap, it was pushing $12. Debunking them, with a quote, does work.

And having the sack to man the harpoons, put my money where my mouth is, certainly didn't hurt.
 
Fair enough it doubles their exposure then and as much as I enjoyed your harpooning the trolls, aren't those same trolls still squatting over the thread?

So the infection rate has increased to 9% or is a third larger. Meaning roughly one in 8 posts will be troll or troll related and some trolls are more successful than others. Interesting note Smooth has been quoted more times than eduffield.

Nice graph. Ignoring the trolls and keeping the discussion amongst ourselves and other "respectful" posters is the way to go.

EDIT: mprep is taking a machete to the thread this evening. Over 30 pages gone!

I just found that out, no trolls all day!? I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight! It's like, I feel an earthquake is going to hit or something.
 
I think the reporting's had an effect, I've been reporting absolutely everything they've posted that looks like FUD (ie. practically everything) and I think a few others have been doing the same, not nice for the mods but it gives them a taste of what we've been suffering there and it's not us spamming posts. They seem to be having a crackdown at the mo so that could be helping, apparently the spambots have gone ballistic on BCT and they're on a deleting spree.
