What sgminer version do you use?

I was looking at that too (rental), I may just do the low cost one, just to see how it works out for the 3 hour block. I've seen so many of those places shut down (just the other day one went down and stopped bitcoin payments to people). But I may go ahead and try it, it looks very interesting. The other thing I'm planning, is to build a "shed" in the backyard, which would be fully off the grid and be solar powered with the battery method. And if GPUs go by the wayside for all algorithms, at least I'll have a seperate building with electricity! (Justificiation hahah) + a place to be able to put my brother in law. I have a long rectangular acre of land and at the bottom of the hill, I could have a large area that could house the solar section which would be "ground mounted" and put a high fence around it, and also put panels on the building itself. I have a solar consultant that would gladly quote me, but it would not be cheap I could assure that :( I'd like to show you a drawing sometime once I get it drafted up, also, the heat would be great in the winter, I could use just an off the shelf AC unit (Which I already own 3) to cool the facility down. I've got all kinds of all ideas, too bad I don't have any money, need investors!

Yeah, It most definately is a regulator of some sort, but I could never get that one card to work good anyway, so you are right, It's going on ebay with the words "7950 FIX" I have zero time, and it is way to risky to just plop it into the MOBO

I love the idea, but strongly suggest you work out the payback time as it sounds like quite an investment, and there is always the possiblity of new tech developments like asic x11 being cheaper to produce and difficulty raising too high (and always Moores law)
If you're going full on solar power, why not 100% wind/solar farm ? And just selling the electricity back to the grid, in the UK we can get a much higher rate for eco power sold back.
You can not go wrong as an energy producer, power will always be needed whatever the shtf scenerio!

I did check on wind, but in our area (NC, USA), wind speeds are very low, but we have awesome solar potential. A few years ago, I would have laughed at the idea of "getting of the Grid", now, with the economic chaos going on, it looks like a certianty at some point. I'm certain that someone will or already has an ASIC designed to solve those chain x11 algorithms, but my idea was to possibly get rid of the electricity bill in 10 more years. I could sell the electricity back to the state, (of course you would be taxed on that), but i think it would be pretty neat also to be self reliant, oh if I only had more time, and didn't waste it all when I was young.....

I have another question, this may be really dumb, but just say dash went to the ASICs and difficulty went sky high, would Dash ever consider going to a different algorithim to deter this and let the common folk mine this? Or am I way off track here and game over..?

It has been commented that we could move to X12 or something like that, I did raise that exact point with this X11 asic developer on the main bitcointalk thread,
here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg11513825#msg11513825
and screen shot here of his asic X11, says it took a whole year to develop and is not economic at currents prices to take to the market.(took some finding in my links!)

''As this work was financed, all I can do is provide a sanitized screenshot. This is a simulation of the FPGA version of the design using a UART interface:''

AFAIK & remember Evan said he will accept the ASICs.....

well, I would put something like that to a vote, its too important, personally I think none asic is great because anyone with a basic gaming card can mine a little bit of Dash on the side and be their own bank without specialist hardware, as soon as you start hitting the network with ridiculous amounts of hashing you cut out most of the global population straight away.
And, after all X11 was invented to be strongly asic resistant so why go back on a fundamental ideal of the coin ? ...

You`re fully right about voting it...
