Dear Community,
This is another post, where I would like to ask for your help with the improvement to dashpay.org website, to make it even more attractive :).
It would be good, if experienced web-designer/web-developer could volunteer to do the job. Any assistance and advices of the UI experts is also highly appreciated.
There are several tasks, I could propose (feel free to extend the list of tasks):
  1. Review of the website
  2. Layout Improvement suggestions (if necessary)
  3. Information architecture improvement suggestions (if required)
  4. Preparation of the additional content (or improved content)
    • Content identified during the review (point 1)
    • Additionally, I would ask to prepare a separate sub-page for every sub-project (like InstantX, Masternodes, translations, Ambassadors etc) - these sub-pages will help with regular updates and communication (we will provide additional explanations, if necessary)
We will be happy to support you with our experience, tools (Jira, Confluence), advices, clarifications and every necessary help, we can provide during the realization.

Thank you in advance
kot and balu

Idea #1. Simplify "Downloads" page, with "stupid buttons":

IMHO, If we want adoption, It'll be better do make download page (for many reasons - MAIN, "selling point" page) of official site more general-user (not crypto-geek) oriented.

With 3 BIG simple buttons:

WIN-Wallet -> Click here do download
MAC-Wallet -> Click here do download
LINUX-Wallet -> Click here do download

Reason: don't let all these Checking sum, PGP, Verify Signatures, Hash, Github, Source, Keys - to confuse and frighten general users.
Let's don't make them think ("all this Dash stuff is too complicated for me").

And place all these Checking sum, PGP, Verify Signatures, Hash, Github, Source, Keys - to the bottom of page (with disclaimer all these aren't mandatory to start using DASH).

Here is a rough mockup but you get the idea:

Idea #2. Add "solutions" pages, for different group of users: with targeted and specialized instructions.

1. Dash for Traders. Comparison of exchanges, tools, ROIs, specific, ...
2. Dash for Long-term investors. Master nodes, ROI, Voting, strategy, ...
3. Dash for Privacy. Anonymization, Tor, IPs, mixing, Darksend, advices, ...
4. Dash for Merchants: solutions, scripts, convercions, taxing, ....
5. Dash for Miners. ...
6. And so on.

Idea #3. In promo section - add printable PDFs
It may be A4-3folded brochures like "Dash for beginners", "Dash for Merchants", "How to pay with DASH on our site" and so on...
To help people spread the world (offline also).

Idea #4 Additional Dash Promo-Site.
(thanks poiuty for cooperation)

Well I think our current dishpay.io is good enough (may be change background images for more suitable and make other design adjustments + and promo-video on main page - but I like it in general - structure and so on…).

Our current most important audience is investors - they need full information in formal serious appearance. Project is very technical complicated - so dishpay.io is not easy too (to better convert visitors into investors) - it is OK.

But. The more project is growing - the more we need not only investors but general users also…
And this type of visitor is absolutely different. They don’t care if coin has long-term perspective, does it have competitive technology and so on…

Most of them just:
1. Visit some site-shop.
2. See there Dash as payment option. - «What the f*ck is Dash?» - click.
3. Go to our site, have a 5-seconds look «What is it? Better than Bitcoin?» «Can I start using it quickly?» «Is it easy enough?»

So to better convert such visitors into users we don’t need to force them study «complicated» dishpay.io - we need simple «landing page - CPA-type of site»

What is landing page? Have a look at http://dogecoin.com - this site oriented on converting visitors into users, not investors. I feel Dash need similar promo-site in addition to dishpay.io
It must be:
1. Small-simple: 1-3 pages, minimum number of links.
2. Attractive-bright: video + big images and short texts + animated + responsive + interactive = FUN!
3. Download-centric-optimised. Main purpose - convert visitors into downloads-installs.
4. Minimum technical information (no! private keys, hashing, mining, masternoding and so on) - so every non-crypto person won't see any new «frightening words».

There are some examples of this concept I like:

Here are my suggestions for the website as it stands now. I went ahead and clicked just about EVERY link I could in there.
A lot of my suggestions are to change the target to _blank on links that leave our website. This is because it's never a good idea to send people away from your website without giving them a reasonable option to get back. The attention span people have is not high enough to hit the back button and once they are onto a new website they pretty much wont be coming back to yours unless they need too.

I've listed every link on the website that makes the user leave the actual website into a completely different website, whether it be dashtalk, the wiki, or something else. Many web designers argue about what practice is better. Some people complain that opening a new page without letting the user know is not the right thing to do, hence the reason wordpress gives us this little button to add to links

Anyways I build basic websites on the side and have a decent portfolio. If anyone needs some help with this or with another site (associated with dash) let me know.

Please note: these are only suggestions based on my personal preference. i don't expect you guys to do it all but at least take into consideration.

The Bold Large Headers are Main Menu Links. The numbered items are sub links. and the sentences with a - in front of them are my actual suggestions.

'ABOUT':
1)
'What is Dash'
- We don't want people leaving the website. Make the target = _blank,
- All other Links work here.

2) 'Team'
-Of course this would be a choice but if possible ask team members only if they are willing for:
-photo, email, twitter/social page, or even dashtalk user name.

3) 'Dash Foundation'
- We don't want people leaving the website. Make the target = _blank

'USE DASH'
1)
'Wallet'
-Three side menu links that lead to wiki take you away from website. Make the target = _blank

2) 'Where to spend'
- We don't want people leaving the website. Make the target = _blank

'DOWNLOAD'
1)
'Mailing List'
-on right and side should be target=_blank

2) 'release notes'
-right above 'terms of use' disclaimer is a dead link.
-Also when fixed Make the target = _blank

CONTACT:
1)
the 'Dashtalk' link in the paragraph above the form should be target=_blank

NEWS:
1)
Each Section has specific Blog Posts listed. These posts are links to the actual blog posts content. So it shows us a little snippet of the posts, the author, the date, the title. There should be a 'read more' button for each of these. The only way to tell if those are links is to hover them and see if the cursor changes.

SOCIAL BUTTONS AT BOTTOM:
1) should be target=_blank

Moving one post of coingun from the other thread:

https://dashtalk.org/threads/known-issues-and-improvement-ideas.5041/#post-55735
Was just browsing the white paper.

https://www.dashpay.io/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Dash-WhitepaperV1.pdf

In this version Section 2.1 talks in the last paragraph about 45% [footnote]. Going to the bottom of the document and clicking on link 10 is a 404 for me.

https://github.com/dashpay/dash/blob/master/src/Masternode-pos.cpp

I can't find the footnote covering the breakdown of the masternode block payment schedule. Is it just me or are those graphs almost illegible? Even at like 200% zoom I can barely read the Mining reward schedule.

Couldn't agree more. 32bit and 64bit might seem silly to us but a lot of people don't know. Then again I hate those download pages that do auto browser detection cause then i'm on my mac wanting to wget somethign for linux and it's serving me the mac link cause of my mac safari browser that i was to copy the link with to wget. #firstworldproblems.

hello guys - I am finally back (I had some issues during the last two weeks)
do we have a web-master / designer, who could work on the suggestions shared by alex-ru and propose new design for the landing page first and then work on other improvements (it could be also a group of people working in parallel)?
thanks in advance

I have created a project in Jira: https://dashpay.atlassian.net/browse/WEBSITE

PS. Let me know if you can see it
Not yet visible, I'll finish setting permissions today and create a way to report bugs on that platform.

Update: finished the setup, now you can open the link kot mentioned, and using the Service Desk functionality new tickets can be added to the Backlog.

Yeah I don't mind having a go at it. I'll need someone to help with images i'm not a photoshop guy. I already have been provided an adminstrator account on Dashpay. I am just trying to decide if there is a better way to go with the updates. I'd prefer to breakout the current site into a production instance and a development instance. At this point it I don't have access ot the actual server that hosts the wp instance so there is a few hurdles to jump through.

If i'm not mistaken, only a few people have access to dashpay.io, afaik, only Evan, Fernando, and Raze have the access there. If you let someone else do this, can they breach security and change the wallet downloads which are the most important things there?

Sure they could. Fernando setup me up with an administrator account so that I could help out with the main site. We are auditing the infrastructure to make sure its going to scale well and be reliable for the future. That is part of what we want to protect is someone maliciously placing content on the site we don't want there.

No I don't.

If I could get a dump of the sql I could stand a dev.dashpay.io up somewhere would jsut need someone to set the dns record. Actually i'd probalby need the wwwroot too for the plugins and such.

What will the dev.dashpay.io do?
I mean we already have this site, and github, and slack, and irc, and bct...
