All: I know this has been brought up before but I've never seen a definitive answer from a dev as to why this would or would not be feasible. With the implementation of pose scoring, it seems like we should be able to move to a Proof of Service model where masternodes create and publish the blocks rather than miners.
Mining is wasteful, it's centralized, it's old tech. Even if the major pools are good actors, what happens when a hacker takes over a couple of them and uses them to launch an attack? Today saw the U.S. White House hacked...do you really thing that a couple of mining pools wouldn't be vulnerable?
Is it possible to do this, or are there technical reasons why it can't be done?
