Greetings DASHers,
I write to you from the Federal "camp" in Devens, MA where I have been since June. Prior to that I was held at the low/med security prison next door since April, and prior to that was held in a jail in Merrimack County, NH since October 2023. You may have heard I was sentenced to eight years for selling BTC and DASH without a government permission slip. I am appealing.
I wanted to give you an update regarding the DASH sponsorship of Free Talk Live. If I recall correctly, our yearlong sponsorship agreement recently expired. At the time I proposed it, it caused some controversy, yet it passed, and for that I am grateful. My primary reason for proposing it was knowing I would likely be locked up and not wanting my wife to have to add regular DASH proposals to her already long list of things to do, like hosting the show and taking care of the studio and our household without my help. So, thank you again for passing it.
Also, please be aware that Free Talk Live is continuing the DASH sponsorship, gratis, at least through the end of the year. Why? I don't feel it is right to ask for a renewal at this time, even for a shorter time frame, and here's why:
Unfortunately, at the end of May our longtime syndicate, the Genesis Communications Network - who started our syndication WAY back in 2004 - abruptly went out of business. The show must go on, so we continued to perform Free Talk Live and began self-syndicating our show. However, our stations were only given two weeks' notice of the changes, and since I was not there to contact the stations directly, our longtime co-host Mark Edge desperately tried to reach the stations with the details on making the change. Some were reached successfully and stayed onboard with FTL. Others, we're not sure. So, basically at this time, I am not sure how many stations we retained and how many we lost.
At the same time our syndicate went under we have re-launched our advertising campaign in TALKERS Magazine to let stations know we are still alive and producing fresh content seven-nights-a-week.
Our co-host Aria DiMezzo was released from prison a few months ago and has said she intends to contact stations on FTL's behalf - both to figure out how many we have retained as well as recruit new ones. However, she has not yet begun this process and is likely still decompressing from her near-year in the same camp I am in now.
So, since I do not know how many radio stations we are bringing to the table, I do not feel it right to have FTL make another proposal for DASH funding at this time.
Because we lost some - possibly a large - amount of stations, I feel like we need to continue doing the DASH sponsorship, gratis, for at least several more months as a make-good. So, we will continue the sponsorship at least until 2025.
Finally, I think I mentioned before that we would be paying our co-hosts with DASH and we have been doing that for the duration of the sponsorship. That will continue as well and we will use our show's DASH savings to make the payments. (Though we are certainly happy to accept donations. Feel free to send to: XboyLzGScuubnVuxp2HrRMHdKTeYNSFypy )
Thank you so much for your support of Free Talk Live over the years. As you know, we are big fans of using crypto in-real-life. Hopefully someday the marketplace will shift away from "just hodl it" to "hodl some, spend some".
Unfortunately I am unable to use the internet so I have not heard any news regarding DASH in the last year, since the mainstream media only reports on Bitcoin or sometimes Ethereum-related news. So I *have* heard that they are continuing to prosecute privacy-oriented crypto tech in the US like Tornado Cash's and Samourai Wallet's programmers. Seems bleak for the industry as a whole in the US, though it's nice that Trump changed his tune and also pledged to commute Ross Ulbricht's sentence, so that's something. If anyone would care to give me a DASH news rundown for the last year, please email it to
[email protected] and my wife will pass it on to me.
Thank you again and I hope we can straighten out our radio station list and come back in the future.
