When asked why they lacked bank accounts, participants in a 2017 survey pointed to a host of reasons, ranging from challenges providing the needed documentation to financial institutions being prohibitively far away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hckui__typography__bodyL\">Of those without a bank account, almost two-thirds claimed they lacked the funds to use one. Another 30 percent of the unbanked taking part in the aforementioned poll simply stated they do not require a bank account.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hckui__typography__bodyL\">Those citing distance as a factor preventing them from having a bank account made up 22 percent of survey participants, while 26% stated that it was prohibitively expensive to have one of these accounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hckui__typography__bodyL\">Thus, the opportunity is there for providers of FinTech services that offer access to financing or, at the very least, digital payment solutions.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"toc-the-need-for-digital-and-contactless-payments-0\" class=\"hckui__typography__h3 title-with-anchor\">The need for digital and contactless payments<\/h3>\n<p class=\"hckui__typography__bodyL\">According to the World Economic Forum,\u00a0<a class=\"hckui__typography__linkBlue steem-keychain-checked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2020\/05\/digital-payments-cash-and-covid-19-pandemics\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-ha=\"{&quot;eventName&quot;:&quot;Clicked link&quot;,&quot;customProps&quot;:{&quot;value&quot;:&quot;governments around the world are promoting the use of digital payments &quot;,&quot;href&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2020\/05\/digital-payments-cash-and-covid-19-pandemics\/&quot;,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;story&quot;,&quot;location&quot;:&quot;story&quot;},&quot;clickOpts&quot;:{&quot;delayRedirect&quot;:true}}\">governments around the world are promoting the use of digital payments\u00a0<\/a>to reduce physical contact and thus help minimize the spread of coronavirus.
