Maybe Evan want to move to ring singatures. ;)
He just wants the name Dash.
Well to bad, its already taken, and as someone suggested on IRC, if they take the name DASH, DASHcoin will re-brand itself to DarkCoin. How you like them apples now?

Well, at least my beloved DASHcoin gets some attention. No such thing as bad publicity! xD

first, i don't think the morse code is dumb, i think it's symbolic of the history or electronic communications and where we've come.

second, i kind of like InstantX as well, IX. "do you accept X? .. yah, do you accept IX here?"

Made acount just to post this.
I love InstantX. I love the idea of separating the network from the coin.
I don't like dash.
I love DRK but I think it will never reach full potential like this.

How come no one took the name Crypto? is it too generic? Good, then call them InstantX cryptos. How about that for a change?
I would buy some InstantX cryptos anyday.
Bye

With respect I am not late at all, I've been a member of Darkcointalk for a year since it began.
But my point is, there are over 2300 masternode holders that have invested a considerable amount of money into this and none of them have been consulted. Its been decided behind our backs and then just put out there. This is tending towards a centralized power base in my opinion and wont stop here.
It is infeasible for MN owners to decide this. I would say at least 40% of Masternodes are managed by a few individuals (5-10) so it isn't like 2000 votes being cast. Also, there isn't a communication system to inform MN owners of a vote or change or whatever, so it would take months to organize that effort. Innovation surrounding Darkcoin can't wait that long.

Newbs will think we're competing with Western Union or something.
We ARE competing with Western Union. InstantX could put them out of business.

EDIT
---------
"Today, the impact of remittances is recognized in all developing regions of the world, constituting an important flow of foreign currency to most countries and directly reaching millions of households – approximately 10 per cent of the world’s population."

Give them some time to come together and announce the full plans. The dev team is distributed around the world and can't always meet to discuss changes or future plans all at the same time. There is a lot to figure out with the changes lately so I think we should be patient.

How goes the discussion today? I had some family commitments so I haven't been able to read through everything. I did see some cool logo ideas on BCT.

I come in peace, don't flame me please! :)
TaoOfSatoshi On a personal level I really want you to know that I appreciate the work you consistently put in to this project and I really think you are a stand up guy. I am posting this comment in reaction to you using the word "flame", which I hope I have never done. I'll leave my views, which I am likely not done expressing, about whether you and I agree about what is the best method to promote darkcoin out of this comment. My only small suggestion is that you do your best to separate the professional feedback from the flaming, of which you will definitely receive both, having volounteered for such a visible role. :)

do not worry
that is the smallest issue !

there are mailing list and PR will take care of the rest
as I am holding over 2000 MN that will be super easy !!

(I am kidding about the 2000 ;))
Edit: or maybe not

Thank you for this, and yes, I have received some constructive criticism amongst the pure flaming because certain people disagree with my support of the name DASH. Lucky for me, my job gives me a thick skin, and I will continue my contributions to the project incorporating all of the constructive feedback I have received. Cheers!

This is the main thing coming out of this, and honestly, when this is over and we move on, our relationships will be much stronger. I really respect you buddy and will be proud to work alongside you as we each tackle PR in our own way.

I will be utterly shocked if the foundation didn't see this and already consider legal concerns (and deal with them appropriately). It sounds like they have started trademark talks and other legal moves so we will have to wait and see.
I would think so as well... A simple trademark search would have settled it... Though I suppose it would depend in which country too ;)... We will see. Grabbing some popcorn and some blankets... It might take a while...

so, there will be some challenges with the trademarking of DASH

How about BitDash or BDASH :::: after a while, if people start using it.. they will just say dash anyway!!!

I would still document that it is "digital cash" in the PR content

I've come to the realization that whatever name we end up with will mean something sweet, sour or outright nasty in someone else's language or slang.

That being said, anyone from sub-Saharan Africa who speaks pidgin English or creole will immediately recognize the word DASH which means "to gift"

So if I "dash" you something, it means I am giving you something for free. So it's common to hear people ask where's why DASH, or give my own DASH, or DASH me something.

Given that 85% of that market is unbanked and has the fastest growing mobile market in the world, seven of the top ten fastest growing countries in the world, one should also take this into consideration.

It also has the largest demographic group under 30 in the world and they are called the "cheetah" generation because they are learning and adopting to technologies and innovation faster than any other generation in Africa.

You have a continent with 57 unique countries, over a billion people, and each country is ready for something new and exciting, while we sit here debating which name to use :)

I'm not 100% certain, but I think that may be the company whose trademark application we will be challenging.
Why would you change the name to a name that is a ready taken by a financial product-solution? And decide to challenge their trademark? A pre-existant financial and you want to name a financial the same name and challenge the first. And more than 1 pre-existant financial with the name Dash? Is somebody trying to sabotage Darkcoin?

I'm not going to call that like what it sounds out loud.... At least not until I get really disappointed... Don't you guys use google? So who's the dummy here? Me? maybe... I'm trying not to comment too much on the name change but it seems like we don't necessary have the smartest cookies here... Please feel targeted...
