Darkcoin Updates To RC5
September 17, 2014 admin 0 Comment DarkCoin

The word “dark” has several connotations in the traditional world. Darth Vader fought for the dark side of the force. The darkness in your bedroom closet as a child kept you up at night and gave you nightmares when you finally did fall asleep. And if someone discovers your deepest, darkest secret, your life could be ruined.

But online, dark has a different connotation. It has to do with privacy, secrecy, and an inability to be traced.

It’s this attitude that drives Darkcoin. And their latest update. RC5, reflects that.

RC5: The Latest Update To Darkcoin
RC5 brings with it a number of new innovations.

Perhaps the most important, most interesting update is the instant transactions teased earlier this week. Called “one of the largest problems facing Bitcoin, RC5 will implement this, reducing the lengthy waiting times for Bitcoin confirmations down to just a few seconds.

Editor’s note: According to the Darkcoin community, RC5 won’t be implementing the instant transaction system. That will come with RC6. The CoinFront apologizes for any confusion this may have caused.

The Darkcoin devs are working on a paper which describes the instant transaction system, and promises to release more details by the end of the week.

RC5 will also have a system included which will finalize the masternode system and ensure it’s effective. According to Darkcoin developer Evan Duffield:

RC5 has a basic version of enforcement built into it that when activated will guarantee masternode payments are present in a block. So far, testing has proven the code is working and we’re in the process of working out some of the final issues with it. The code is very simple and when activated the network will simply reject blocks from pools that have not updated.

RC5 will be released open source one week after its launch, on September 29th, in order to allow any necessary updates to be made.

The development team doesn’t anticipate any conflicts between their instant transaction system and their anonymization system, Darksend, which Duffield says “is working really nicely with no pressing issues.”

Having anonymous, instant transactions will certainly set Darkcoin apart from the rest of the cryptocurrency world. RC5 will see an official launch on September 23rd, and if all goes as planned, Darkcoin could become an even more important player in the cryptocurrency world.
