Proposal: Conferences & Travel (March)

This proposal is cross-posted at www.dashcentral.org/p/conf-mayevents-201703

This proposal funds a portion of the costs for Dash to participate at two conferences during the month of May. As there remains a significant portion of the March budget cycle unallocated, and we anticipate some significant business development projects in the April budget, we feel it is prudent to begin accumulating savings toward these two conferences early. This should also enable us to start booking flights and hotels earlier to ensure we secure lower costs.

I am using the current voting ratios as of this writing to project which unfunded proposals are likely to become funded, so I'm leaving room in the budget for these community initiatives to pass.

One of our objectives in 2017 is to massively grow our presence at conferences within the cryptocurrency industry and peripheral industries such as IoT and payments, in order to deliver Dash's story to a wide audience. Starting with our first conference (LaBitConf 2015), we have seen positive market growth during and immediately after each conference in which we've participated. The return on investment is usually massive. During The North American Bitcoin Conference this year, our price appreciated ~$3, which led to a $21,000 monthly increase in our budget. Given the past results, we feel conferences is an area we should focus more of our efforts, which will positively impact other areas of the project by attracting investment and growing our budget. In 2017, we plan to attend more of these events and have a much more prominent presence at each (meaning larger booths and potentially sponsorship packages).

David Dinkins is leading our effort to research all of the relevant conferences and gather information on the audiences, available packages, and potential speaking opportunities. There are two conferences in May that we've decided make the most sense to fund initially... Blockchain 360 and Consensus 2017.

Blockchain 360 is an event at Internet of Things World being held May 16-18 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California. This conference will give us the opportunity to highlight Dash as a potential solution for machine-to-machine payments, which we are particularly well-suited to provide once the DAPI capabilities are deployed to the network. This will help extend Dash's sphere of influence into areas underserved by existing cryptocurrency networks. Daniel Diaz will represent Dash at the conference, where he will be joined by BlockCypher, which is participating in the conference as well. This is a great opportunity to highlight the value that partnership can bring to the IoT.

The second conference is Consensus 2017, which is the most influential blockchain technology conference. The conference is organized by CoinDesk and is hosted at the Marriott Marquis in New York on May 22-24. This conference is attended by more than 2,000 people from large enterprises, academia, investor groups, financial institutions, government, and policy groups. This event is a means for securing Dash's status as a top cryptocurrency, and getting our message to this conference's attendees could open many new doors for Dash. I will be the primary representative for Dash at the event. BlockCypher will be joining Dash at this event also, to co-market our capabilities to the conference participants.

Fully funding these two conferences will require an additional proposal in April. We have already begun negotiating with the conference sponsors and should have final packages by mid-March to submit to the network for final approval.

Requested funding is as follows for the March 5th budget cycle:
Total: 340.89 Dash

Note: Should any funding remain, we will apply it toward future conference expenses.
