    Pre-proposal: Grassroots Crowdfunding System

Dash transactions can't be "reversed" as such, so I assume you mean this method involves undoing then with a compensating transaction. I imagine it must work like this: For example, say 5 backers will fund 20 DASH each to make a total of 100 DASH for a proposal. They each send to a P2SH address...

    Pre-proposal: Grassroots Crowdfunding System

This sounds like a more secure solution, although it would be more complex. (Backers would need to sign a message from their address to prove ownership, like proving masternode collateral.) What I can't picture is how this would work after that. I think you mean that each backer would have to...

    Proposal: Professional Recruiting

I don't understand the comparison. Wikipedia is a publishing system, and each writer contributes the own little bit to the total content. It's an additive system. Dash governance is a decision making system. Anyone can add proposals, like anyone can add content to Wikipedia, but the voting...

    Proposal: Professional Recruiting

There is a good reason to do it this way. The amount of time masternode operators have to read, analyse and vote on proposals is limited, and they don't have access to all the contextual information about how development is working day to day. Masternode operators simply aren't able to collect...

    Proposal: Professional Recruiting

Doubling the team size at once is incredibly rapid growth. My gut feeling is that if they were brought in all at once, the even if the recruitment company takes all of the admin work off the core team, that the new team members will still be a huge drain on the existing developers. They won't...

Is Segregated Witness also coming to DASH?

It's not really possible to have a shortage of money (not cryptocurrency anyway) as long as that money is suitably divisible. Even if there is only 1 dash in circulation, it can still be used to transact, as long as the system supports enough decimal places to chop it up. The same is true of...

Is Segregated Witness also coming to DASH?

I agree that I don't think this needs a vote. It seems to be working quite well that the masternodes elect a core team, and then the core team makes technical decisions. I always saw the block size limit vote as more of a publicity stunt to show off Dash's governance – the core team would almost...

Is Segregated Witness also coming to DASH?

SegWit isn't the only way to improve the Dash blockchain, Flexible Transactions is another. While there is no immediate risk that Dash will hit a capacity limit (it currently has 4x the capacity of Bitcoin, and could easily absorb all current Bitcoin traffic), there is time to explore many...

DASH WILL NEVER BE SUCCESSFUL if it does not solve this Problem

To the best of my knowledge, thats not how Gresham's Law works. I believe Gresham's Law works like this: if 1oz of gold is worth 10oz of silver on the free market, but the government passes a law that 1oz gold = 20oz of silver, gold becomes twice as valuable according to the decreed exchange...

Could Dash be merged to Bitcoin some day?

How would it work if BTC holders could acquire DASH through proof-of-burn? And would it be more desirable than letting people simply sell their BTC for DASH?

    Version 12.1 Release

Actually, yes. After your rant about the imaginary marketplace and your vitriol towards @tungfa for his "deception", I genuinely can't make any sense out of what you are saying. I apologise, perhaps I am just not paying close enough attention to the conversation here to understand everyone's...

    Version 12.1 Release

That's not how software version numbers work. The number after the point isn't a decimal fraction, it's an integer. Dash could go to version 0.101.0 if it wanted. 0.x.y indicates that the API is not considered stable. The Semantic Versioning site explains this in more detail.

    Is "masternode" a good name?

My dictionary gives one definition of "master" as an adjective: main; principal: the master bedroom It seems valid to consider a masternode as a main or primary node, and this doesn't imply any master-slave relationship. There may be a better name for masternodes, but I don't think the current...

    Version 12.1 Release

Is this possible if 100% of miners are on 12.1? It seems a bit backwards if large merchants can veto or delay protocol changes by not upgrading. Surely it's the responsibility of merchants to update to the latest version as agreed by masternodes and used by miners? Sent from my iPhone using...

Upgraded Dash-Core Wallet to 12.1 Lost My Transactions and Dash

Ah that is the old joke that "if you make something idiot-proof, someone will build a better idiot". I think the reality is that making something user-friendly encourages more people to try using it, and then even if a smaller percentage of people have problems, you can end up with more support...

Upgraded Dash-Core Wallet to 12.1 Lost My Transactions and Dash

This sort of problem makes me wonder, could Dash Core 12.1 not have handled the migration of the data folder (and delete the caches etc) automatically? Maybe it's not a huge problem now, but if Dash had Bitcoin's userbase, there could be millions of people with mysteriously "disappearing"...

I sold all my Dash. Here is why and my view on the state of Dash

Here is an idea that has crossed my mind once before, that I think may help solve this problem: collateralised proposals. The weakness of the current treasury system is that payments are made entirely based on good faith. Masternode operators must vote entirely based on whether they think the...

Proposal: Marketing - Brand & Design

Do you think all proposals involving external companies should be put out to tender? There are upsides and downsides to any means of hiring external companies. Direct engagement may be opaque, but tendering is slow and can still be gamed to predetermine or bias the outcome. It is still possible...

    Zeronet, Openbazaar & market places

At first glance, it sounds like the trade status would be better managed as an Evolution service – it doesn't need to be permanently recorded on the blockchain as it isn't needed to derive spendable balances. A useful first step might be to speak to the Bitsquare developers and see how...

All Systems Will Be Gamed – paper by Brian Arthur

I agree, to make something 100% resilient is impossible. If I understand it – which I don't :) – that's the one of messages of the Incompleteness Theorem: there will always be something which undoes a system, no matter how clever. Aiming for perfection is not productive, you can improve pretty...

All Systems Will Be Gamed – paper by Brian Arthur

I'm currently reading the book Complexity Economics, which is a recent book (2014) that collects together a number of papers Brian Arthur has authored or co-authored. Brian Arthur was one of the original members of the Santa Fe Institute, which has been looking at better ways to understand...

    Open Bazaar integration - pre-proposal

Yet again I have been sidetracked by life and haven't spent any time on this lately. I am thinking that there is something I can more productively spend my time on for Dash and that I should park this for now. There are two impediments to working on Dash integration for OpenBazaar: first, it's...

Why don't we halve the Masternode collateral requirement now?

I agree with the spirit of your point but I am not sure what you are implying by the details, so I would like to expand on something. I agree entirely that making changes to Dash just to please one interest group or another would make no sense, it would be making changes without logic, and...

Why don't we halve the Masternode collateral requirement now?

That's a very good point, we don't want to push masternode operators to using commodity hardware. I suspect in the long run that might solve itself, as the masternode hardware requirements grow to the point a masternode needs a dedicated server. What will prove helpful is some sort of...

Why don't we halve the Masternode collateral requirement now?

This question has gone round and round in my head a number of times. I think it will be easier to frame the problem if we word the question as "What is the optimal number of masternodes?" and derive the masternode capital requirement from that. One way to look at this is in terms of democratic...

Pre-Proposal: CZ/SK Strategic promotion of Dash before HCPP conference in Prague

Oh, I'm glad you posted this on Reddit! I was in two minds whether to attend HCPP as I'll be at the Trezor hackathon earlier that week, but this has sealed it for me. I live in Prague now, so I'm available before the event to help coordinate things. I'll do whatever I can to help with this, just...

    Open Bazaar integration - pre-proposal

I know how you feel!!! This is all promising though. I'll download the Go version of the OB server and see how far I get using it in place of the Python implementation (right now I have no idea exactly way behaviour has been re-implemented.) With any luck I'll be able to make everything I've...

    Open Bazaar integration - pre-proposal

I think I've got as far as I can with this and I don't know what to do next. (This is why I didn't want to put in a budget proposal right away, in case I came unstuck.) It looks like either continuing to work on the existing Python server implementation, or switching to developing on the new Go...

    Call for devs: Software adoption

I just used this list to check if a Python library I need is available (it looks like it isn't). I only remembered it was here because I found it browsing the Dash forum. This would be an amazing resource if it was a web app in itself, that could document and track the status of projects – even...

    Open Bazaar integration - pre-proposal

I have just discovered the OpenBazaar server has a requirement for bitcointools 1.1.44, which is vbuterin's Python toolkit. Has bitcointools been ported to Dash? I found @vertoe's excellent Call for devs: Software adoption thread but I can't see it listed. I think this is a deciding factor, as...

Small question: is it documented anywhere what the valid format of testnet addresses is? I've searched the wiki, but I can't see anything. Would you be interested in High Quality 100% cotton Dash T-shirt

I only came here because I stumbled across the t-shirt subject, I didn't expect a debate about Brexit :) But since you've raised it, these points are all good reasons why I'm glad to not be living in the UK any more. They aren't reasons I moved, but they're forces keeping me away. I like a lot...

I'll take one in M! I'm guessing at the size but M usually fits me. EU shipping also here. Open Bazaar integration - pre-proposal

I have an idea. 2 small FlokiNET servers would cost 20 EUR, which is about 22 USD, which is about 2.75 DASH. I will round that up to 3. If I put in a budget proposal for 4 DASH/mo for 5 months, I will have enough for 2 servers + transaction fees etc, and recoup the cost of the proposal. Sound...

    Open Bazaar integration - pre-proposal

The path I'm taking is to start by duplicating everything inside OB that is Bitcoin-specific, and make it work for Dash. This has the advantage that the initial Dash code becomes independent of the Bitcoin code and can evolve separately. If this works we can then look at a payment abstraction...
