Dash World: Marketing Audit, Progress & Road-map

Dear community:

During the first two weeks since the Dash World has been funded we’ve dived deeply into the Dash Project in order to better gauge where we stand and where we are going to take our efforts from here.

Major Work Done:

-- Marketing Audit for Dash performed by The Vanbex Group, is published @ http://document.li/xnXE on 04/21/2016;
-- SEO Audit of the dash.org by GreyGhost, published @ http://document.li/W9gZ on 04/13/2016,

(as always, sorry for the CAPTCHA but I do not want the content to be indexed)

Work on these audits has given us an insight as where the Dash Project stands at the moment and provides us with a road-map for the future marketing activities with a bundle of recommendations.

The new approach is best summarized in lisacheng line from the Conclusion of the Marketing Audit: “We are looking to expand the conversation beyond the currency. Dash is a robust and diverse technology that has grown beyond its ideological roots of DarkCoin, matured as Dash cryptocurrency, and is evolving into a decentralized platform for a greater audience.

I strongly encourage you to read Lisa Chang’s Marketing Audit in its entirety and have an open discussion about it. We want the community to challenge and improve our future work.

Supplemental Work Done:

-- RSS feeds fetching, submission and maintenance by GreyGhosthttps://dashtalk.org/#_edn1 (ongoing);
-- Dash World (existing) videos collection on http://www.dailymotion.com/dashworld [ii] (ongoing);
-- Dash -- Videos Transcripts. [iii] (Why is that needed? It's TEXT i.e. indexable content while video talk is not. (indexable) Suggestions how to use these transcripts given to the core – email to fernando;

-- April 20, 2016 as segue to Dash World Manila Dr. BobLQ organized some of “his” Meetup members to attend “Bitcoin based remittances in the real world, rebittance,” event by Luis Buenaventura II, founder of https://www.rebit.ph/ in order to start laying down our future business opportunities in that field;

-- The Vanbex Group works with Eric Sammons and Evan Duffield on a “master article” that is going to be a good one about the origin of Dash, and will tackle the issues that people have been calling out Dash on, and with further articles we will move away from the problems of the past and into the future. (we'll move into educational pieces and than investment pieces and so on)

-- May 18, 2016 ** Manila World Premiere for Dash World: Masternodes as an Investment Opportunity Event:
- Presentation space in Manila secured @ http://www.acleanplace.ph/;
- Raptor73 works with GreyGhost on the marketing material for the Manila event (DASH T-shirts 3D graphs creation...)

**NOTE: It is too bad to be forced by events out so far but we really do not want to fight the realities of the election in The Philippines held once in six (6) years, on May 9th, which makes attracting the audience almost impossible. This time frame will give us time to prepare and deliver some interesting surprises

-- DarkSend or PrivacyProtect or as The Vanbex has suggested, DashSecure is one of the Dash’s bedrock features. As a former journalist with the political asylum in the United States granted due to my political writing, I have special interest in all privacy related issues; moreover I have private access to over 1,500 journalists all over the world.

In a very early stages of exploring possibilities of promoting PrivacyProtect / DashSecure I zeroed on 157 journalists in over 30 countries with human rights and need for privacy . It’s a huge task that at the moment has no clear outcome and many constraints. (no budget, if properly done this venture requires a lot, a lot of time; I can't know what the reactions of these people will be -- I started contacting them but as you might imagine, all of them are very busy. I am mentioning this as an illustration of many avenues the Dash World and its team is exploring; to many to mention. In the future only the avenues feasible to pursue will be shared with the community - I do not want us to be mislead with great ideas and for sure would not like to make any promises)

Community Engagement Note
:

-- Dash World: Evolution in Marketing proposal had promised to work with the community members. So far, we made good on our promise:
- Eric Sammons is engaged by The Vanbex Group to write for the Dash World;
- Raptor73 helps with 3D graph designs;
- Crowning helps Dr. BobLQ in working on the Masternode the data;
- Oaxaca was kind enough to provide Lisa and Kevin an in-depth insight in the Dash Project and its features;
- Solarminer helped with the data and is treasure trove of ideas he selflessly shares;
- GreyGhost and Alex-ru would likely cooperate on one video (gg is writing the script, pending Alex’s approval);·
- Elishagh1 from dashpaymagazine.com and GreyGhost started to plan an event in Accra, Ghana and future cooperation;
-- …

More to come.

Onward,
GreyGhost

Our previous marketing efforts never had this kind of transparency. It's been two weeks and we already have an update with the tasks @greyghost is performing. lisacheng and Kevin from Vanbex group joined our community with good intentions (compared to previous PR companies who only joined after they were ousted). This is a testament to their character traits and also shows us a much bigger and better picture about Vanbex Group. DashWorld Evolution in marketing still has the least amount of votes for currently passed proposals. There is a possibility that it gets voted down in future superblocks. I do not think we can allow this to happen, this post If anything, is proof that DashWorld is the ideal route we need to take. Thank you greyghost for your efforts.

Great post, and thank you for the update. It will be interesting to see how effective the media coverage will be once our detractors point out that it's all based on paid marketing, not organic interest. Transparency is great, but is also a double-edged sword.

Thanks for audit! :smile:

I don't like "Darksend" word, but the name "DashSecure" also sounds doubtfully for me:
- without this option "tuned on" users may decide that using Dash is not Secure - but it's not true. In fact - it is still secure but just not private - so it is not about Security, but about Privacy...
- when mentioning in publications - it will sound like "DashSecure of Dash" - 2 Dashes is too much IMO.

So "PrivacyProtect" or something like this with "privacy-private" is much better IMO.

David, these guys are really moving. If you could see the conversation happening in private messages and on slack, it is incredible. As for gauging how effective this will all be, GreyGhost is getting data from the Dash websites and will have traffic metrics and other sources for actual proof all of this effort is working.

As for renaming Darksend, Dashsecure isn't the best term, but agree with the concept of a name with a positive connotation. Erasing history is the concept we want to get across - not hiding a questionable transaction or enabling anonymous drug deals.

DashErase, Fungify, ProtectX might be better alternatives. Of course, this will need a vote before any changes. And in 2 years, this will not be needed as this will be standard in every Evolution transaction.

That's absolutely great! Good news for everyone.

DashSecure is a dumb name, without any privacy connotations at all. I think Evan's PrivacyProtect or PrivateX is better.

2.5 Comparisons to Bitcoin

I kind of disagree a little bit here because people don't understand that the "lightning network" is being designed as a centralized service where not only will people be charged a fee, but identity exposure will be forced upon users according to Peter Todd's latest article. There are serious centralization differences, and this is very important. You can't explain them without comparisons. I don't mind if the comparisons are against the "leading cryptocurrency" or "other... etc..." but it gets clunky.

Commit or Rollback
Prevents
doublespending
Transactions
to the network will be written to DashDrive and the inputs will be reversed
via usage of the filesystem
Stores
the whole transaction history across the shared filesystem, while awaiting archival
in the permanent blockchain

Please tell me this is wrong (as I'm pretty sure it is) Double spending is prevented by Masternode quorums locking transactions, they are not reversible - ever. I don't know what this is saying, unless I'm completely wrong, and the whole house of cards just lost it's foundation!

Anyway, Otherwise sounds good :)

Edit: RE: DarkSend, isn't Privacy Protect the official new term?

great reporting :wink:

- i skipped the SEO Audit (above my pay grade, i leave this to the Pro's)
- Vandex Audit is very interesting
*i like her PaymentSystem angle (away from BTC comparesing / there will be some comparessings anyway earlier or later but no need to push them on a constant, i totally agree)
*Darksend renaming is in the box for 12.1, we are having an internal conversation about this in the moment (PrivacyProtect is in the pipeline but not 100% confirmed as a term i believe)
*documentation, good point / attracting outside Devs = great
* 'expand the conversation beyond the currency' definitely !! but there has to be a balance of both
* “master article”
are you referring to 'instamine' and XC launch and all that ?
i would honestly (me personal) let that horse be and not revive that whole discussion again, we went though this again and again and we all know that haters will hate and something like that only puts more fire on an old dead horse, i believe in moving on, Writing about that payment system they mentioned and such
- RSS Feeds
we had transcripts for all these videos already, they are on YT as subtitles in all videos (tx to tante) + translations in many languages
i honestly have no idea about RSS and would love to get some pointers what to do with current 'text' + in the future
i had many discussions with alex-ru (we do a lot of YT stuff together) about where to put that text/transcripts of videos , and on YT it only messes up 'Descriptions' or 'Comments' posting this all in there, any suggestions
- dailymotion
ping me in the future, i am the one for all the videos (incl soundless, translations, graphics and all)
setting up another channel here or there is no probs
but then, random channel on dailymotion/ vimeo/.... it is a lot of work to update /maintain them, does it really make sense to post channels and pages into the blue ?
(Edit; Banner does not fit our corporate identity at all ?!?! shouldn't it ?)
Shouldn't we just put all our videos on there ? why only the short selection ?
- we are running many Social Media pages (and getting good views per day per post) but same question, i am actually not sure if that makes sense ? is it just robots coming by or actual people reading ? (i wish our social media efforts were in any of the Audits too, i really wonder if we are doing the right thing)

Edit:
i am looking into the keyword/RSS for YouTube (Descriptions and such) :wink:

Just wanted to say that Lisa's Marketing Audit is awesome! If you haven't gone over it already I suggest you do, it is a good read.
I too, did not go over the seo audit as it will be out of my league.

Only thing I didn't like was "DashSecure", I think we should stick with "PrivacyProtect" or "PrivateX"

tungfa would you remind me where are all the social links listed? As far as the "master article" I don't micromanage articles given the level of knowledge and talent Eric possesses but I think all -- Eric, Evan, Kevin... -- are in agreement there's no need to beat the dead horse...

Thanks. As far as your prior question regarding social efforts -- these do not seem to have a clear idea what they are promoting. Do not get me wrong, all of that is great work but our by far the biggest weakness is the website that must attract visitors / users. We MUST create it properly with a clear vision and make it a cornerstone of any promotional activities IF our goal is to:
-- have an user download the wallet and use Dash.

I see no other value proposition. (aside huge thingy -- attracting developers to build on DAPI)

If this would be the goal (as it should), than the results would be dismal -- dash.org had only 2.19% of all visits coming from all the social networks combined. I do not want to divulge any other numbers but the percentage because the total number of visits might be seen as the business secret. Unless we're clear about it, let me stay only with the percentage.

Content marketing is a big deal and it will take me some time to prepare a comprehensive document / guidelines for all of us to peruse as we see it fit. It would be a good helpful guide, not an instruction manual anyone would be obliged to follow. I wait to see what AndyDark will post about Information Architecture and than will try to convey my message in rather strong terms.

GreyGhost

If The Vanbex Group has necessary competence - could I suggest as one of the next step - to audit also Dash Promotion in China.
Looks like there is a great unrealized potential for Dash.

Just as quick example:

https://dashtalk.org -> Local -> 中國的 Chinese (Discussions: 94 - Messages: 410)
https://bitsharestalk.org -> Local -> 中文(Chinese) (Discussions: 3309 - Messages: 37666)

Could you please look deeper into it: how is Bitshares promoting in China and how can we copy some of their effective approaches?

Thanks.

As I understand, that was an entirely different issue. Apparently a group at MIT is trying to setup a registration process using real names and convince miners to only include transactions that are registered. That is separate from Lightning.

ok i hear you about Social Media and "-- have an user download the wallet and use Dash"
but it is still part of 'maintaining and updating the community' as far as i see it

- dailymotion
we have a bunch of new videos on YouTube, will you update dailymotion ?

- SEO and everything is great,
but is there any press coming ? i know you guys are working on that 1 article, i am a bit desperate for more, is there anything in the planing ?

In our audit we lay out why it would be better to peg Dash to Fiat like USD and go away from pegging it to BTC. This sets Dash apart from other Alt coins
