I’m happy to announce that the new dash.org is live!!

We hope everyone can enjoy the new site.

The main things we aim to achieve with this update are:

1- Define a new information structure that is consistent with what we know of our audience already. On the old site, everything was mixed and finding what you were looking for was difficult. Now, we have defined four different groups of users, and we show each of them the things that make more sense. These are individuals, businesses, developers and community. In the future, it would probably make sense to even have separate sites for some of those groups, like developers or even merchants. However, we don’t have enough information yet to make that kind of decision. Nor we have the resources at this time.

2- Fully implement the new branding approved in mid-2018 and get a more current design. Since Dash is a user-centric project that praises itself of being human, easy and approachable, we decided to include lifestyle images on top of some of the pages. This may be a controversial decision, but we believe it is the right one. Companies like Paypal have been doing this for a long time because people empathize with people and it works. We’ve combined that with some custom illustrations that make navigation more pleasant and fun.

3- Get a flexible site that we can keep updated easily. Our old site went stale because it was very difficult to do the smallest change and we didn’t have resources for that. Our new setup is very easy to update, while we keep a solid and secure system. This will allow us to use the website as the tool it is supposed to be. From now on, it is part of our day to day work, so instead of big updates from time to time, you can expect a constant flow of smaller ones. Related to this, we are now able to act on the analytics information we get. We are not going to be testing everything extensively because we don’t have the resources for that, but we’ll be monitoring the basic metrics and working on improving them.

It takes a village.

This update is the work of a lot of people. It should not be that many, but we don’t have dedicated resources for the website and what we could outsource was limited, so many in the team have been putting a lot of time to this while doing other stuff. At the beginning of the project it was mostly Alex Chopan, Liz, Michael, Janusz and me, but we would frequently pull in people from other parts of the team, like Angelo, Suba, Kira, Brad, Dana, Tungfa, Kot or Ryan. In the last phase, from the time we received the incomplete work from the agency, Strophy has absolutely killed it, with some help from Joshua, Jon, and Nathan. Ivan Borovkov has done all the infrastructure work needed for the site to be up.

Suggestions, bugs, typos…

This is version 0 of the website. We decided to release because what we have now is much better than the old site, but it is far from perfect (and it will never be a finished product!). We have many improvements in the works already, and I’m sure that the community will come up with many great ideas too.

If you have suggestions or find any bugs or typos, we would appreciate that you send them through the support desk, so we have a process in place and are sure that nothing is lost (there is a link to support in the footer of the site).

There are a few things that we are already working on and will be released as they become available:

-New languages.
-More exchanges, price and volume information in the /where-to-buy/ page. Also, and InstantSend filter.
-More DAPI content in the developers page once some code is open sourced and documentation released later in this quarter.
-Mode modules/pages in the businesses section that apply to specific types of businesses (merchants, exchanges…).
-More product information in the site (instead of sending the visitor to docs.dash.org).

We have more in the backlog. We’ll tackle as time allows.

Known migration issues

There is a problem with how the code in three pages handles logo's urls, so they are not showing in the where-to-buy, where-to-spend and full-list-of-exchanges pages. It works well in the test domain and we can solve it, but we wanted to deploy first and check for a few other things in the final deployment domain before making some changes. The site has more than 1000 pages by now and migration is painful.

Another issue. The find-an-atm page should show a map with atms. Coin ATM Radar had enabled that to be seen for all subdomains in dash.org, but it looks like there is a problem and it reverts to a link. They have already been notified.

Wow, what a difference with the old site. My compliments to everyone involved.
Roadmap looks great too and i like how the app downloads are presented now.
The live data on the landing page looks great too,

Thanks on behalf of everyone! there are still many things to repair/improve, but we thought that at this point it was much better than what we had and it was better to release once and for all!

A great step, bravo!

In the coming months if Core needs specialist help to keep momentum, a specific proposal for dash.org v1.0 would be well received by MNOs, IMO.

The site is a really great step in the right direction visually.

On the flip side I think its content misrepresents what Dash really is. Dash is not only a fast and cheap form of payment but also an alternative to traditional currencies. There is no mention of that anywhere I could find at first glance.

Let’s be honest, payments apps with instant transactions and no fees for the consumers are nothing new and only the combination between solid asset and efficient payments are the real deal Dash is driving for.

I feel this is even more important considering one of Dash’s main market, Venezuela, is currently in need of this exact combination of attributes; solid, sound and effective money.

I personally also wouldn’t include small fees in the tag-line. Many first world consumers already have that and might therefore dismiss Dash at first glance.

Website looks beautiful. Clean, easy, professional. A perfect balance.

3 quick things to share:

1) Anypay's logo has changed. Could you please update the logo? (Businesses > Providers and Tools)

New logo
:

2) May the "About" section please read: "Anypay offers easy, professional tools for retail. Rewards Dash users for shopping at your store. Multi-coin. Totally Free. Works in all countries."

3) eGifter.com offers hundreds of gift cards for Dash, but they are not yet listed under the "Where to Spend" section. Would you please add them to the list so people know they can shop there with Dash?

Many thanks for all you do!

Awesome Derrickj! I'll get these sorted out asap. Your new logo looks great btw!

Looks nice. My only concern is that it seems to use google-analytics instead of a self hosted open-source alternative like matomo (formerly piwik). Do we really want to send data about our users to google?

1. I agree with the use of human / lifestyle pics, I think, however, the front page pic needs to be brighter.

2. As mentioned earlier, please consider the removal of all google code and analytics. I know they provide nice tools but their spyware is way too invasive. How can we claim to have privacy features when we're actively violating it?

3. In my own promotional material I put:

"Global Money. No banks. No governments"

"Unstoppable. Instantly pay who you want and when you want in 1.3 seconds"

Overall, it's a good start but there's room for improvement.

@Antti Kaikkonen @GrandMasterDash Re Google Analytics

We have discussed this in the past because we too would prefer to reduce reliance on Google. In fact, for the old site, we originally used Piwik (now Matomo). It is an awesome tool and I really love it, but it was a PITA to keep updated. We were running our own instance in our servers (I know there are hosted options, but that defeats the purpose), but it required constant updates to work well. Also, other tools don't work directly with it and you need to do a lot of extra work if you want to integrate website data. We only have one dedicated infrastructure engineer in the team and he has plenty of stuff on this plate, so last year we decided to start using GA on the old website and simplify a little.

I understand your concerns, but GA is a market standard. We are working hard to disrupt money. I would love us to also help in other battles to disrupt many other things that need disruption, but we can't fight every war.

Market standard is a weak excuse to send user data to third parties in my opinion but I understand that your resources are limited. I would rather have you focus on core development than this.

Site is very nice

I noticed, when you click "Download iOS App" on the index page, you get redirected to the general #mobile section where the "Android"-Tab is in focus by default. Would be nicer to arrive in the #group382-tab2 "iOS"-Tab directly.

Good point, thanks. In fact, we are considering splitting Mobile into Android and iOS because the second tab there is not very obvious to see and some people may miss it.
