1. Executive Summary
This business case outlines how the Dash + Alt Thirty Six co-branded marketing + media proposal will address current business concerns, the benefits of implementing the strategy, recommendations for implementation, and overall justification of the proposal.
1.1 Background/Problem
Given the current political, social, and economic climate, facilitating the adoption of Dash via the Alt Thirty Six platform faces several unique challenges. As we continue our initial go-to-market strategy in the cannabis industry, it is extremely important for Dash and Alt Thirty Six to maintain a strong and unified presence that is integrated into each and every one of our various marketing efforts.

Understandably, many within the cannabis space are weary of entertaining blockchain based payment solutions as it can be difficult to differentiate the good from the bad. Unlike its competition, however, Alt Thirty Six does not face the same limitations based on a platform supported by a large network with proven transactional capability. Although we know this to be true, the concern arises that without a continued strong push to showcase the Dash + Alt Thirty Six co-branded partnership, the platform’s true potential to be adopted and solve the cannabis industry’s cash problem could see slower growth.
1.2 Anticipated Outcomes
Since approval of the previous proposal in early 2018, the Dash + Alt Thirty Six brands have become very well recognized and curated new partners + clients. There is a large demand for what we’re doing in partnership with Dash and the brand recognition has and continues to show results.

Over the last 12 months, the Alt Thirty Six team has been able to showcase the Dash + Alt Thirty Six partnership and create a series of strategic marketing efforts that have empowered both organizations to be seen as serious contenders within their respective spaces: cannabis and digital currency. Given the exclusive nature of Alt Thirty Six’s partnership with Dash, we believe mutual brand awareness will be key to the overall adoption and success of the currency. Through a unified effort, we aim not only to facilitate the adoption of the currency, but increase the rate exponentially by strategically promoting both the vehicle (Alt Thirty Six) and medium (Dash) as one single-entity in a $20+ billion cash-intensive industry.
1.3 Recommendation

In order to continue to achieve the desired results, various alternatives were analyzed to determine the best co-branded marketing strategy. The approach described herein will not only allow Alt Thirty Six to leverage many of its current assets, but do so in a manner that promotes Dash as the top transactional cryptocurrency. If approved, the recommended marketing proposal will be strategically deployed to optimize exposure across several platforms. The proposed marketing initiative is as follows:
  • Continue to maintain a strong Dash + Alt Thirty Six presence via continued sponsorship of the largest, most reputable cannabis conferences + media outlets throughout 2019
  • Remain supportive members of some of the leading national + local cannabis industry associations under the co-branded Alt Thirty Six + Dash name;
    • National Cannabis Industry Association

    • California Cannabis Industry Association

    • Marijuana Industry Trade Association
  • Maintain a strong local presence within the AZ cannabis community through continued partnership with local associations, brands, and cannabis related businesses.
1.4 Justification
Implementing each of the suggested recommendations has ensured the Alt Thirty Six payment platform powered by Dash will continue to gain the traction and the competitive advantage needed to become the primary payment solution for the cannabis industry. This co-branded marketing proposal also aligns with the Dash mission, vision, and DAO fundamentals. It will be used to promote economic freedom in an unbanked industry constantly under threat from administrative regulation; AND it will highlight Dash as the only viable transactional cryptocurrency with the backing, governance, and speed capable of handling cannabis payments. When comparing this to the alternative, maintaining the status quo, we are faced with a very real risk that neither Alt Thirty Six nor Dash will be able to differentiate itself amidst an ever-growing body of competition. As new blockchain based payment solutions pop up overnight, with unfathomable marketing budgets funded by their ICOs, a failure to continue to act and be a consistent face, would result in an inevitable loss of market share. Conversely, with the full faith and backing of Dash, we are confident we will continue to capture the majority of the market in our licensed states while simultaneously expanding into new markets across the United States.

Through the sponsorship support in 2018, the Alt Thirty Six team has been able to create strategic partnerships with conference organizations + media outlets. The sponsorship support has also enabled a qualified network of companies to integrate and use the Dash + Alt Thirty Six platform. We are currently in our beta period and the client base is growing as we identify ‘early adopter’ integrators + cannabis related businesses that would like to use the platform and provide feedback on live processing.
2. The Breakdown
The following proposal and associated costs will be best defined by breaking down the above recommendations in two distinct parts. The first part of this proposal outlines the costs of attending and sponsoring some of the largest industry conferences throughout 2019. The sponsorship list has been refined from the prior proposal earlier this year, to deliver a more strategic approach based on the value we expect from each conference group. There has also been an adjustment made on costs associated with attending the conference. In 2018, each conference required a higher attendance & level of participation from the Alt Thirty Six team than initially anticipated. We found that the best results were shown when 4 - 5 team members attended the planned sponsored conferences. For 2019 we’ve included an increased attendance + participation by Alt Thirty Six team members. Some of the planned events such as the cannabis experience being planned with Andfriends.la, will require much more man power and time than a typical conference. The second part of the proposal includes data collected from 2018 conferences showing recorded results and 2019 membership costs associated with a refined list of trade associations within the cannabis industry.

Overview: Alt Thirty Six is partnering with Andfriends.la to be the preferred payment option at a complete cannabis experience for consumers. The initial plan for the experience was to start from Feb - April 2019, but will most likely continue beyond the end of 2019 as a 3-5 year lease gets solidified in a downtown LA location that’s about 15,000 sq. feet. Andfriends has several close partners and participants in professional athlete organizations, entertainment industry and large brands making an impact. We are looking to support this event full force by enabling ticket sales and purchases throughout the experience and having our own Alt Thirty Six + Dash custom shop. We will be bringing in loyalty and point of sale partners to checkout and generate sales at the experiences as well as generating orders for participating cannabis related brands + merchants. We are looking to sponsor the event to build out our own Alt Thirty Six + Dash custom shop and enable integration for payments from our partner platforms. We will also be working with media outlets in partnership with Andfriends to drive people to this amazing cannabis attraction near Hollywood/LA, CA. The support we are seeking is for the sponsorship and support of first 3 mo. of the experience. Participants will purchase tickets to enter starting in February 2019. Based on the success this will continue through the end of the year and so forth. The Alt Thirty Six team will keep the network updated on the success of this opportunity. Through our brand recognition from conference sponsorship, event participation and media in 2018, we were thought of as the perfect partner in this cutting edge opportunity that will drive Dash transactions and increase brand recognition amongst consumers, entertainers, professional athletes and major brands.

Overview: In 2018 Alt Thirty Six was invited to engage on several thought panels with some of the biggest influencers in cannabis to discuss the massive potential for the Dash blockchain within the space. When applicable, Alt Thirty Six ensured to involve members of the Dash Core team in these speaking engagements to further validate the partnership. In addition, given the innovative and disruptive nature of its payment technology, Alt Thirty Six + Dash has also received several nominations (and won) at various award ceremonies throughout the year. Although it is a great honor to be invited to speak, or more notably, nominated for an award, these events are seldomly ever planned and come at a great cost. Moreover, in order to take full advantage of the opportunity, it is almost always necessary to retain at least some form of sponsorship or media package at these events to ensure we are capturing the attention of the desired audience. Therefore, we have allocated a conservative $30,000 towards panel engagements, award ceremonies + sponsorship which cannot easily be planned, but will inevitably occur in 2019. We have also included $10,000 to cover unplanned travel costs. Any funds not spent attending these engagements will be allocated towards the production of new Dash marketing videos + media efforts.

2.2 Conference & Sponsorship Selection
When it came to evaluating which conferences to sponsor in 2019 we based our decision primarily on the value earned from this year’s conferences. As with the previous proposal, attendance, reputation, partnership opportunities, and organizational alignment were the criteria in which we gauged success. When applying the data obtained during 2018, we were able to measure the performance of this year’s conferences to more accurately determine their overall effectiveness. As a result, there were a few clear conference winners in terms of driving value for Alt Thirty Six + Dash. Depicted in the chart below, there was a dramatic spike in overall traffic around the time of the first CWCB and MJBizCon events. This represents a clear indication of interest generation as a direct result of these conferences and their associated marketing activities.

In addition, during the same time period the number of imported sales qualified leads obtained from attending the above mentioned conferences also went through the roof. This was certainly in part due to the strategic partnership established with the CWCB as well as the overall quality of leads produced by the events held near end Q2.

As a direct result of the interest generated from these events as well as the quality of leads they produced, we were able to lock down several key integration partners. Of which, these ISV partners include the likes of a major Cannabis POS provider and Cannabis Loyalty Platform. Given these partners’ extensive networks and broad national reach, upon completion of the integration we anticipate to be immediately plugged into well over 10k retail dispensaries.

By exploiting these press releases through our various social media channels, we were able to grow our social media presence exponentially from this time last year. A quick glance at the social media traction made since starting the 2018 conference circuit can be seen below with a large increase on both Twitter and Instagram social media outlets.

When it came to selecting cannabis trade associations to join in 2019, this also was narrowed down to just a select few. Again, when evaluating these associations, our decision was based off perceived value, potential partnership opportunities, and organizational alignment. Joining these associations comes with several premium benefits which include, but not limited to: board membership and voting rights, exclusive networking opportunities, and private conference sponsorship opportunities. Prior to launch, promises of many signed up partners, integrations and transactions were thrown around. Where are they now? I have seen zero proof that alt36 has delivered any of the above promises. How many beta clients do you need, and how long is the beta going on before we see some real results?

At this stage I cannot justify spending half a million dollars to fly you to conferences to party when this money in Venezuela would probably onboard another 10000+ merchants.
 
1. The major part of the funding would go to the events through 2019, but you request funding in Dec 2018, Jan, and Feb 2019. Is there a reason why you need the funds beforehand?
2. 5% buffer for dash price fluctuation is too low, even through last 3 months the volatility was higher. Why choosing 5% buffer?
3. Do you plan to convert to fiat immediately or to hold onto Dash?
 
ALT36 was a first of it's kind for both Dash and crypto, but times have changed, there have been many more proposals fund by the Dash treasury. Some of them can now be used as great examples. The one that comes closes to all is KuvaCash, KuvaCash is in all respects when it comes to delivering information in and around its business and all of it has been delivered on time(till MNO decided not to funded anymore). When comparing KuvaCash to ALT36, it also becomes clear ALT36 tends to hold Dash for a short of time as possible (if I am incorrect that again on you because did not take the time to explain the transaction processes) On the other hand KuvaCash offer the option to hold Dash for as long as possible. In other words ALT36 it's business marketcap is in fiat, while for KuvaCash it's going to be a mixture of Dash and fiat.

For ALT36 to move forward things need to chance, better demo's start communicating with DashWatch so they can report, those are the things to start with. Furthermore the status of the 36 month dash exclusivity, should be included, and in fact if it's already counting down, it should be renewed to 36 months again

It's hard to justify the further money when so far this project has been largely a disappointment.
  1. Where are the ATMs that we paid for?
  2. How many transactions a day are you processing through the platform?
  3. How many dispensaries are you in?
  4. How many transactions are you expecting to be processing by January 1st, 2019?
  5. For "A Weed Experience" how are you estimating 500 people a day for the entire duration of the event? How are you even able to be a part of this event without a California Money Transmitters License?
  6. Would you be willing to extend Dash exclusivity for an additional year with the successful passing of this proposal? Since the clock has already started ticking and we at Dash aren't seeing any of the promised results many of us feel that you are overpromising and under delivering. Additional time added to the exclusivity would sweeten the deal and make you more likely to pass this proposal.
 
Hi @ThirtySix before commenting on the proposal itself I believe we need to know more information about the your operations this year:

1) How many merchants are currently set up with Alt36 to receive Dash payments today? Can you disclose (privately if necessary) the location of one of these merchants so that a Dash representative can make a purchase in Dash?
2) How many purchases at cannabis merchants have been made in Dash through the Alt36 platform so far? What is the rough dollar amount of purchases conducted through the platform to date?
3) How many cannabis businesses are set up to transact B2B using Dash?
4) How many B2B transactions have been logged on the system, with what approximate total dollar value?

I understand the desire to keep some figures confidential, however the viability of a marketing proposal depends largely on the viability of the product being marketed. I can't speak for the masternode community but I can assume that the disclosure of the above-requested figures is non-negotiable.

Regarding the proposal itself, you mentioned an uptick in leads and website traffic correlated with past conferences. How many sales have resulted from these leads? Can you give an average number of paying customers acquired as a direct or indirect result of each conference so as to ascertain the ROI of continued sponsorships?

Regarding cost, these sponsorships have been billed as co-branded Dash/Alt36 marketing. However, it appears that Dash is expected to cover the entire cost in exchange for a partial share of the spotlight. Understanding that this may seem like semantics, however many other proposals compete for treasury funding while offering to promote Dash exclusively. Does Alt36 have the means to share the costs of the sponsorship with Dash?

Finally, it has become standard operating procedure for proposals to report progress to @DashWatchTeam. Understanding that this entity was not in place at the time of the original Alt36 proposal, many masternodes may not want to take on further projects without a reliable mechanism for keeping track of them now that such a mechanism is available. Would you consider working with Dash Watch on regular status reporting?

We understand it has been difficult to review our true progress since we've been cautious about sharing partnership/integration/client names in public forum. However, we want to make sure the network understands more into where we are as a company and all of the efforts that have gone into getting us to our current beta stage. Our entire company is dedicated to making Dash the top transactional cryptocurrency, with cannabis being our first major industry. We've been very cautious that our proposals are for growth related activities, not salaries or other operational costs. We are in the middle of our capital raise that has seen some hiccups, but we are getting closer to receiving outside funding that will provide the support we need from technical positions, sales + marketing positions, compliance, legal etc. We are putting together a response now that will go over information we have not openly released in the forums and show tangible videos demonstrations. We will continue to monitor the comments as we put this information together.
 
I appreciate that some partnerships and strategies have to be shrouded in secrecy for a time. But I think that time has to be over.

I, and many others in the community would very much appreciate the live demo and tangible proof of your forward progress. If we get those two things, I think your proposal has a substantially better chance of passing.

We are in the middle of our capital raise that has seen some hiccups, but we are getting closer to receiving outside funding that will provide the support we need from technical positions, sales + marketing positions, compliance, legal etc. We are putting together a response now that will go over information we have not openly released in the forums and show tangible videos demonstrations. We will continue to monitor the comments as we put this information together.

What possible reason is there to justify this, other than being on a power trip? As long as they answer all the questions satisfactorily why would you care whether it is in video form, text form, or as a podcast? What matters is the questions get answered.

For me, text format is way easier to quote or refer back to, and makes it faster and easier to analyze. I wouldn't make it a requirement but as a MNO I appreciate when proposal owners are able to present their value proposition succinctly in text format.

Just a quick note that it is possible to verify that a business goal has been met without disclosing confidential details by working with Dash Watch. Several other proposals disclose private details to Dash Watch with the understanding that they are trusted in the community, so if they say they have verified a business objective, then voting masternodes will accept that without the proposal owner needing to publicly disclose anything.

Re my questions, I consider Alt36 project be of much importance to Dash ecosystem. Yet, both as MNO and an operator, of a project, funded from the Treasury, I see some drawbacks.

Q1 touches the discrepancy between planned spending and requested funding. While we all would like to have cash on hand, the budget right now is tight, and, since Treasury provides funding in form of grants, it's important to correlate actual spending with funding requested.
Q2 is again about 1year planning horizon. For the last 12 month Dash exchange rate to USD fluctuated 10x, not 5%. Even for last week we've got 7%+ volatility. Not accounting for this is either a weakness in planning or - see Q3.
Q3. The amount requested is substantial. If it would be immediately sold for USD, it will show itself in a lower exchange rate, which is already low enough.

I can skim through a text reply on mobile, while in transit, in a minute, focusing only on the substantial parts. Video requires 100% attention and thus I likely will skip it and consider a non-answer. That's why, for example, TenX regular video updates are great, but for project fans, not me as an user.

If I'm understanding correctly, 25 cannabis businesses have been set up to transact B2B using Dash at this point, while 0 are accepting Dash payments from customers as this integration is not completed yet? Also, since no figures of transaction numbers or values have been included, I'm assuming that none yet have taken place, is this correct?

Please understand that these figures likely are the most important metrics for masternodes to decide on the ROI of continuing proposals, which is why they are repeatedly requested.

Regarding the proposal itself, you mentioned an uptick in leads and website traffic correlated with past conferences. How many sales have resulted from these leads? Can you give an average number of paying customers acquired as a direct or indirect result of each conference so as to ascertain the ROI of continued sponsorships?

Regarding cost, these sponsorships have been billed as co-branded Dash/Alt36 marketing. However, it appears that Dash is expected to cover the entire cost in exchange for a partial share of the spotlight. Understanding that this may seem like semantics, however many other proposals compete for treasury funding while offering to promote Dash exclusively. Does Alt36 have the means to share the costs of the sponsorship with Dash?
