We are excited to share that we will begin the process to fully activate ChainLocks and the new version of InstantSend tomorrow, July 2, at 8AM UTC.
The process will start with the deactivation of the “old” (current) version of InstantSend. The team will then wait for 24 blocks until all locks are mined or expired (approximately 1–2 hours). During that time, InstantSend will not be available. This is to ensure a smooth transition to the new system. After all the “old” locked transactions are mined or expired, we will enable the new version of InstantSend using the LLMQ-Based InstantSend spork (spork 20). As described in previous posts, the new version uses long living masternode quorums (“LLMQs”) to lock transactions, instead of the old quorum system.
After monitoring the network for about 1 hour from the activation of the new InstantSend to ensure the transition was successful, we will fully enable ChainLocks with spork 19. With DIP8 already in place, this step will allow for blocks to begin getting locked. This will also allow for “chained” InstantSend to begin occurring, allowing for instantly respendable payments.
Below is the anticipated timing of each step on July 2.
8AM UTC: Deactivation of old InstantSend
9AM UTC*: Activation of new InstantSend
10AM UTC*: Activation of ChainLocks

These few steps represent the last big milestones of the Dash Core v0.14 rollout.
